Officially the fastest movie to make $1billion at the international box office and now the fourth highest grossing movie ever, James Cameron’s Avatar is proving to be an unstoppable movie juggernaut. And why not when there are so many hooks to lure you in, from the amazing 3D special effects to the return of the Oscar-winning director after a 12-year hiatus, from the star-making central performance from Sam Worthington to the belting soundtrack by James Horner. Inglourious Basterds leads Online Film Critics Society award nominations

With the holidays well and truly over; the mulled wine all drunk, the mince pies all munched and the sofa left sagging after days of non-stop lounging; it’s back to the business of show and what better post-Christmas pick-me-up than musing on who’ll walk off with the trophies as awards season approaches? Back in December, we reported on a new set of award nominations virtually every day and this clamour for industry glory shows no sign of abating now we’re in 2010 as the Online Film Critics Society has announced its top contenders from 2009. Leading the pack is Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds with eight noms, closely followed by The Hurt Locker with seven and Up in the Air with four and Avatar with three. But the music category is absent all of these heavy-hitters with Boxwish fave, Where the Wild Things Are facing some seriously stiff competition. »
