Nick Frost on Pirate Radio
When The Boat that Rocked opened in England, it did not have the fanfare usually doled out to a Richard Curtis movie. It.s even opening in America with a different cut and the name Pirate Radio to wash that critical stink off. Co-star Nick Frost hopes American audiences will get the premise of the film and enjoy its slice of life episodes on the pirate radio boats of the 1960s.
Nick Frost on the Air for Pirate Radio
.I think that's kind of part of the way Richard put it together,. Frost said. .I think what the British press missed is the fact that the film is set over kind of two years, essentially, and so when a story.s that long it.s difficult to keep a narrative thread going through the whole film. So I think Richard kind of shot it in a way where it.s »
The Slammin' Salmon Trailer
Broken Lizard has been following a similar path to M. Night Shyamalan. Both opened strong in terms of films -- think Sixth Sense and Super Troopers -- but both have been on a slippery slope of films that can't make a mark. In their latest attempt, Broken Lizard gives us The Slammin' Salmon and I do have to say that it looks pretty good... So far.
The Slammin' Salmon Poster + Trailer
In the latest comedy from Broken Lizard, "Slammin" Cleon Salmon (Michael Clarke Duncan) is a former Heavyweight Champion of the World turned celebrity owner of a high end Miami seafood restaurant, The Slammin' Salmon.
A terrifying bull of a man, Salmon uses fear to rule over his misfit waitstaff (Broken Lizard's Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske, as well as Cobie Smulders and April Bowlby) and on this particular night, he takes his bullying skills to a new level. »
Avatar Costs How Much?
Making an entirely new planet, fit with indigenous life and creatures, is effing pricey! It's interesting, however, that we'd now be discussing the price of Avatar, as I remember a similar article that came out about a month before the release of Titanic that was blown away by the film's budget of $200 million. The movie had the last laugh, as it went on to make $1.8 billion at the worldwide box office. Hence why 20th Century Fox is risking $500 million on Avatar. Yes, $500 million, but the risk is not entirely theirs.
Avatar Budget Talk
A great article has surfaced at NY Times that discusses how 20th Century Fox has distributed the financial risk of Avatar. If the film is close to the expectations people have, then I feel there is no need to worry. But, just in case... »
Wiseman Might Go Nocturne
With 2012, it looks like the apocalyptic genre is in at the moment. 20th Century Fox is hopping on the bandwagon, having purchased an untitled pitch that will hopefully bring the apocalypse with Len Wiseman at the helm.
Len Wiseman Negotiating Nocturne
Fox is in talks with Wiseman to both produce and direct what is currently being called Nocturne. The pitch is based on an original idea about a group of people who survive the end of the world and the mystery surrounding how they got to that position. The studio is seeking writers for the project.
Just in case you've been enjoying the beaches of Bora Bora the last decade, Wiseman is known for the Underworld movies and last helmed Live Free or Die Hard. »
Winona Ryder Eyeing Black Swan
Though I can't imagine what could possibly be the holdup, Winona Ryder is in talks to join the cast of Darren Aronofsky's supernatural thriller Black Swan.
Winona Ryder Joining Black Swan?
Currently co-starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, Black Swan is set in the New York ballet world, the story centers on a veteran dancer (Portman) and a rival (Kunis) who are tangled in a manipulative relationship, but it's unclear whether the rival is real or a figment of the ballet dancer's imagination. Ryder will play a fellow dancer. »
2012 Any Good?
I adored Independence Day when it first came out. Tons of action, tons of destruction, tons of comedy and Will Smith made a perfect combo. The Roland Emmerich tried to talk some Global Warming sense into me with The Day After Tomorrow, a film that might have actually hurt any environmentalist's cause by overdoing just about everything. The film had a few visuals, but ended up being pretty lame. Then came 10,000 BC, and I immediately wanted to see it. I did, and I hated it. Besides a few visuals, I was once again left with a film that had nothing real to offer. So now comes 2012, a film that looks to be Emmerich's coup de gras.
Judging by the first reviews for the film, the director does (finally) succeed at making a film that pulls off some realistic destruction. If only the characters could live up to the environments in which they are placed. »
New Poster for Alice in Wonderland
After giving us a bunch of promo posters featuring the characters of Alice in Wonderland, Walt Disney Pictures has now released what at least looks to be the first feature poster for the film.
Alice in Wonderland Poster
I say at least, as Disney is calling the image below just that, an image. Well, I'm calling it a poster.
From Walt Disney Pictures and visionary director Tim Burton comes an epic 3D fantasy adventure Alice in Wonderland, a magical and imaginative twist on some of the most beloved stories of all time. Johnny Depp stars as the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska as 19-year-old Alice, who returns to the whimsical world she first encountered as a young girl, reuniting with her childhood friends: the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Dormouse, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, and of course, the Mad Hatter. Alice embarks on a fantastical journey to find »
Foxx and Lawrence Are Sheneneh and Wanda
9 November 2009 9:44 AM, PST
Sony Screen Gems has acquired Sheneneh and Wanda, a comic vehicle for Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence. If the pairing and title sounds awfully familiar, then you likely saw a skit involving the actors and the two female characters (that they created and play) during the Bet Awards.
Jamie Foxx, Martin Lawrence for Sheneneh and Wanda
Liking the feedback, Foxx and Lawrence have decided to go forward with turning the skit/concept into a feature film. In the comedy, Sheneneh and Wanda are modern day independent women trying to make it on their own, one bank robbery at a time.
Though they've been starring in different genres of recent, Foxx and Lawrence have long tried to find a vehicle to work together. »
Make That Another Extended TV Spot for Avatar
9 November 2009 12:59 AM, PST
Make that yet another media update for Avatar. After making us wait years, 20th Century Fox continues to release something new for the film every couple of days. The latest comes as a new, extended TV spot for the film.
Avatar TV Spot
The good people at TrailerAddict have posted an extended TV spot for Avatar that is easily the most different of the trailers we have yet to see from the film. Unlike the last previews, which make the film look like an intense action-thriller, the TV spot is obviously aimed at younger audiences -- it aired on the Cartoon Network -- and pushes the idea of the film's fun and adventure. It might come across as a bit too Stargate for some, but remember that this preview likely wasn't made for you; unless, of course, you're under the driving age. »
Paltrow Plays With The Danish Girl
8 November 2009 11:47 PM, PST
I guess if you want to make audiences feel more comfortable watching a movie about a transsexual and their sexual partner, you might as well cast it with those who are friendly on the eyes. So is the case for The Danish Girl, which just landed Gwyneth Paltrow.
Gwyneth Paltrow for The Danish Girl
Paltrow has been cast to star opposite Nicole Kidman in The Danish Girl. Based on the David Ebershoff novel and directed by Thomas Alfredson off a script by Lucinda Coxon, The Danish Girl revolves around a man's (Einar Wegener) transformation after his wife Greta, a portrait painter, asks him to stand in for an absent female model. »
Gyllenhaal Reads Through Source Code
8 November 2009 11:38 PM, PST
Take it from me - Reading through source code sucks. That's why Vendome Pictures is reaching out to Jake Gyllenhaal, who they hope will agree to star in their sci-fi thriller.
Jake Gyllenhaal for Source Code
Titled Source Code, the film will be directed by Duncan Jones and center on a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown commuter and is forced to live and relive a harrowing train bombing until he can determine who is responsible for it.
If the film sounds familiar, it might, as Universal Pictures at one time took a shot at it with Topher Grace prepping to star. Summit Entertainment will now handle domestic distribution. »
Disney's A Christmas Carol Tops Box Office
8 November 2009 11:25 PM, PST
As expected, Disney's A Christmas Carol took the top spot at the box office this weekend. What I didn't expect, however, is that the film would scare the crap out of me.
Box Office Winner: Disney's A Christmas Carol
Seriously, I can only imagine how many parents were forced to cover the eyes of their children. That is one dark movie dude! While having Jim Carrey on board typically means laughs, there were few to be had in A Christmas Carol. Instead, Jim Carrey turned out being a great selection for voice casting, as he did a fine job as Scrooge and the Christmas spirits. With him and the help of 3D, the Disney adaptation opened to a solid $31 million. Less than what Disney was hoping for, but the film still has some upcoming holidays to take advantage of. »
