More New Blood - Both Vamp & Lycan - Added to True Blood

If the flurry of casting news over the past couple of days is any indication, Season Three of HBO's popular series "True Blood" is going to be taking viewers in some new and different directions. Joining the regulars as recurring characters are Theo Alexander as Talbot, an "intensely beautiful" vampire, and Grant Bowler (pictured) as Coot, a menacing biker werewolf.

In addition to being so easy on the eyes, Talbot, the boyfriend of Russell Edgington (Denis O'Hare), the vampire king of Mississippi, has an acerbic sense of humor and loves to cook despite vampires' inherent lack of cooking talents. Not much else was mentioned about Coot except that he's the ringleader of his biker gang.

Per THR production on the upcoming season kicked off today, but there are still several key new roles yet to be filled, including white trash Debbie, hot Latino orderly Jesus, handsome vampire Franklin, alpha male werewolf Alcid, »

Riddick Getting Set to Return for Round 3!

The original Pitch Black is probably one of our all-time favorite sci-fi/horror hybrids here in the Dread Central offices. The second one with its neutered PG-13 rating .... not so much. We're all praying the third time's the charm for an R-rated return to form for the Vin Diesel franchise, and the actor himself just dropped a pretty interesting little tidbit!

Over on Vin Diesel's Facebook page the actor writes, "The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already... that's exciting."

Exciting indeed!

While we weren't exactly huge fans of Diesel’s second time around as Riddick, it’s hard to deny that there definitely is some potential to go further in the story of one of the more badass criminals to fight evil in the universe. More to come!

Rec 3 is Such a Little Tease

With Rec 2 (review here) enjoying a some really positive buzz, Rec 3 is getting some love in the form of a new teaser image.

The image you see to your right comes from the website for the third entry Rec3LaPelicula. The flick will be coming "Proximamente", or "Soon" for you lazy Americans that don't wanna go and look the word up!

Even more interesting is this roughly translated bit from the official Rec 3 Facebook Fan Page, which claims that the film will be coming in 2011: "Confirmed a possible pre-production on the film. For now, both the script and the director of the film are being expected."

No word yet whether or not Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza return for round three, but at the very least they're expected to produce. We shall keep an eye on things for you!

Albert Pyun Prepping New 3D Vampire Film

We're still waiting for Albert Pyun's Tales of an Ancient Empire to be released, but that's not stopping the busy director from looking ahead to his next project. He just updated his MySpace Blog with some news that has us more than a little intrigued. Read on for the details.

"We are beginning the early stages of prep next week on a new film and will begin shooting January 2. And yes, it revolves around vampires. But not the way you'd imagine. I can't say much yet except it's a hybrid of genres and will likely be shot in 3D. It's definitely going to be somewhat experimental -- if you can imagine a movie like 'Tales' crossed with 'Run Lola Run'. Female and male leads, more romantic with a cluster of superhuman villains trying to wreck their relationship. It's yet 'Untitled' until all the agreements are finalized this week. »

Yep, it's gonna happen! Ruben Fleischer's brand of undead flesheater will soon be shambling, running, slipping, and sliding off the big screen in the third dimension, baby!

Variety reports that Sony has closed deals with producer Gavin Polone and helmer Ruben Fleischer to return for a sequel to the original, which cost $24 million and has earned $85.2 million worldwide to date. The Culver City studio is currently in talks with stars Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg to reprise their roles as a pair of post-apocalyptic survivors. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are working on the sequel's screenplay.

"Everyone had fun watching (the first) 'Zombieland'; making it a more visceral experience can only make it better," Polone tells Variety. "I don't think you want to see 'Ordinary People' in 3D. But 'Zombieland' is clearly one movie that will benefit from (the technique)."
