Flying 'Up in the Air' with Anna Kendrick & American Airlines
19 hours ago
Starting today, Jason Reitman's Up in the Air is now playing in limited theaters. It'll expand nationwide on Christmas Day, so if you haven't seen it yet, be sure to see it then. A few weeks back, Paramount invited me on a special flight hosted by American Airlines in promotion of the film. Not only was it a private flight with American, but we would see the film on the plane (my third time seeing it), interview Anna Kendrick, and get a live performance from Sad Brad, who's song "Help Yourself" can be heard in the second half of the film. It was one of the best flying experiences I've ever had and one of the coolest trips I've ever been on! The flight was from New York (JFK) to Los Angeles and was a good six hours from start to finish (which gave us just about enough time »

Chris Rock's Death at a Funeral Urban Remake Trailer Debut
20 hours ago
Okay, I'm admittedly a little bias. Death at a Funeral, the original Frank Oz version, is one of my favorite comedies. I was one of the first people to see it at its world premiere and supported it all the way through its release. Somehow, Chris Rock got his hands on the remake rights, and in no time whipped out a terrible remake. So here we have the "urban" version of Death at a Funeral starring Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Tracy Morgan, Danny Glover, James Marsden, Luke Wilson, and the beautiful Zoe Saldana. The only funny part about this is that they re-used Peter Dinklage, who starred in the original, in the same exact role again. Watch the official trailer for Chris Rock's Death at a Funeral: You can also watch the Death at a Funeral trailer in High Definition on Yahoo A small funeral ceremony turns into »

Matt Damon Says No More Bourne Without Paul Greengrass
23 hours ago
Uh oh. The last few days have been pretty rough for Universal. Startling news first hit that director Paul Greengrass was quitting the Bourne franchise on Monday earlier this week. Then Greengrass issued a respectful statement on Tuesday confirming that he would be leaving the franchise behind. At that point, it definitely seemed like he wouldn't return, but that could always change. Now today a press conference for Invictus, Matt Damon made a bold statement: "I’ll just wait for him and when [Greengrass] wants to do one, we'll do it." Is this the end of the Bourne franchise? Will they be able to continue without Greengrass? His answer was followed by a question asking if he's saying that "it's Greengrass or no Bourne?" Damon's answer: "Yeah, I've always said that, but I think it'll happen down the road. We just don't have a script yet." So he's hopeful that Greengrass »

Jack Ryan Updates: Chris Pine Confirmed, Starts on Wall Street
23 hours ago
Did you already forget that Chris Pine will be the new Jack Ryan? Because I did. Producer Mace Neufeld spoke this morning at a press conference for Invictus and gave a brief update on the next Jack Ryan project (via ComingSoon and Collider). First, he confirmed that Chris Pine was set to play Ryan, but that they were still waiting for a script and it was still very early on in development. Additionally, this will not be based on one of Tom Clancy's novels, but rather will be an original screenplay written by Adam Koxac (with an earlier draft by Hossein Amini). Neufeld wouldn't talk about the story, but did reveal one little tidbit about the plot. "We pick him up when he's on Wall Street. But I'm not going to tell you the rest of the story... The Jack Ryan movies have never been action films. They're kind »

More New Photos of James Franco as Allen Ginsberg in Howl
23 hours ago
Back in June we featured the first photo from Howl, the film about the 1957 obscenity trial Allen Ginsberg faced after the publication of his poem of the same name. Thanks to FilmSchoolRejects though, we've got three more photos to add to that first one from June. Howl stars James Franco as the poet Allen Ginsberg alongside of Mary-Louise Parker as Gail Potter, Jeff Daniels as Professor David Kirk, and David Strathairn as Ralph McIntosh. Additionally, Aaron Tveit stars as Ginsberg's friend Peter Orlovsky, which is who you see with Franco above. We also just found out that this would be premiering at Sundance next January. Howl is written and directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman and was executive producer by Gus Van Sant. Franco explained previously that he plays Ginsberg as "an unsure young man who's trying to find his way." The film surrounds the 1957 obscenity trial that ... »

4 December 2009 1:42 PM, PST
With Jim Sheridan's drama Brothers starring Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman set to hit theaters on Friday, THR reports that co-producer Matt Battaglia has a plethora of upcoming projects on his plate. Potential projects include adaptations of the novels Bad Monkeys by Matt Ruff and Or I'll Dress You in Mourning by Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre, as well as The Marlboro Marine, based on the story of Cpl. Blake Miller and a Los Angeles Times article by Luis Sinco. One project, an untitled Hunter Scott project, even has Battaglia working with J.J. Abrams. Read on for more specific details. Bad Monkeys centers on a female protagonist who struggles with her alter ego and, after being arrested for murder, claims to belong to a secret society that fights evil. The New York Times called the novel "a science fiction Catcher in the Rye. " So if you check »

McLovin's Red Mist Gets His Own Kick-Ass Character Poster
4 December 2009 3:11 AM, PST
A few weeks ago, Lionsgate unveiled the first awesome trailer and first badass poster for Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass comic book movie. AICN has just debuted another new character poster for Red Mist, the other wanna-be superhero that Christopher Mintz-Plasse plays in the movie. He teams up with Kick-Ass, played by Aaron Johnson, and well, they kick some gangster ass. I don't know much more about the plot than that, but I don't want to know more. And so far I've got to say, the marketing on this is pretty awesome. I've loved every poster they've put out, the trailer was great, and I've got a feeling there's plenty more to come. Enjoy! Kick-Ass is both written and directed by British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, of Layer Cake and Stardust previously. The screenplay was co-written by Vaughn and his writing partner Jane Goldman, of Stardust as well. The story is an »

First Look: A Couple of Dicks, The Town, & Going the Distance
4 December 2009 2:58 AM, PST
Warner Brothers just debuted their 2010 Preview Kit which includes a small batch of new photographs from most of their big movies in 2010. We've seen a lot of photos from most of their big films already, but there are a few new photos we have never seen yet. Instead of featuring them all one-by-one, I thought I'd throw all the new photos in one big post. So below is our first look at Kevin Smith's A Couple of Dicks (currently called Untitled Cop Movie and may end up as A Couple of Cops), Ben Affleck's The Town, Rob Reiner's Flipped, Nanette Burstein's Going the Distance, and Greg Berlanti's Life as We Know It. Tracy Morgan as Paul and Bruce Willis as Jimmy in Kevin Smith's A Couple of Dicks, about two cops whose adventures include locating a stolen baseball card, rescuing a woman, and dealing with crazy gangsters. »

Impressive Official Poster for Ryan Reynolds' Thriller Buried
4 December 2009 2:20 AM, PST
It was just announced yesterday that Rodrigo Cortés' new thriller Buried starring Ryan Reynolds and only Ryan Reynolds would be premiering at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival coming up in January. To go along with that wonderful news is this poster, thanks to our friends at Quiet Earth. They somehow dug up (pun intended) the first official poster for the film along with two other posters that were created as mock-ups but were never used in the end. This is that film that's set entirely in a coffin and it's already one of the films I'm planning to catch at Sundance. I've got a good feeling it'll be a highlight of my fest. Check out these posters! This looks much more like a sales flyer than an official poster (consider it's horizontal, not a vertical poster) but I still dig it either way. The other two posters beneath that one »

Paramount Wants Twilight Actor Taylor Lautner in Max Steel
4 December 2009 1:40 AM, PST
It was first reported that Paramount had picked up rights to the Mattel's toy line Max Steel with plans of turning it into a feature film back in July. Boy, things move quick at that studio. Now, according to the La Times, Paramount really wants 17-year-old Twilight star Taylor Lautner to play the lead character Josh McGrath, an extreme sports athlete. In the original WB Kids show (that was based on the toys), McGrath is "accidentally exposed to the unleashed power of nanotechological machines, which become part of him and give him increased strength, near-invulnerability and the ability to change his appearance." Sounds fun, eh? According to the La Times report, Lautner's agents want to line him up for a lead role following Twilight. He's not signed for the role yet, but Paramount wants him because "he can bring young women into theaters -- always a positive for any action picture. »

Michelle Williams to Play Marilyn Monroe, Not Johansson?
4 December 2009 1:07 AM, PST
But she is a better actress, right? Production Weekly is reporting that Michelle Williams (Synecdoche New York, Brokeback Mountain) is "in talks" to star as Marilyn Monroe in Simon Curtis' My Week With Marilyn. According to early reports, Scarlett Johansson was also rumored for the role, but I think that was more speculation based on her looks. This is the first time we've heard this, so I won't take it as confirmed casting, but it seems like it could be legit. This must be a minor indie film, because My Week With Marilyn isn't even listed on IMDb yet, which means it's a very new project. Shooting is scheduled to begin in June. As far as we know, this is based on Colin Clark's book My Week With Marilyn. Clark was hired as the "third assistant director" on Laurence Olivier's The Prince and the Showgirl, who put »

Steven Spielberg Says Goodbye to DreamWorks' Harvey Remake
4 December 2009 12:22 AM, PST
Putting aside preferences for certain actors, directors, writers, and so on, there's no denying that putting together a movie is one damn difficult task no matter the talent trying to put it together. A recent article from Variety proves just that as it informs us that iconic director Steven Spielberg has given up on his recent taking on of Harvey, the remake of the 1950 Jimmy Stewart film about a man who befriends a six and a half foot tall invisible rabbit. Though it doesn't sound like a bitter departure, it sounds like Spielberg was getting frustrated with not only finding the right actor, but figuring out the right approach to the story. After Tom Hanks quickly turned down the lead role of Elwood P. Dowd (citing too many similarities between him and Jimmy Stewart already without starring in a remake of one of his films), Spielberg had his eyes on »

Vincent Chase and His Entourage Headed to the Big Screen?
4 December 2009 12:10 AM, PST
Adrian Grenier has been in the spotlight quite a bit for playing fictional actor Vincent Chase on the HBO series "Entourage," chronicling the life of an actor and his friends and they deal with the ups and downs of the entertainment industry. And while Grenier is no stranger to the big screen, Vincent Chase's exploits have been limited to fictional projects with directors like James Cameron and Martin Scorsese. That may change sooner than later as THR reports that an Entourage movie might be in the cards with producer Mark Wahlberg saying there's probably a good two seasons left for the series to be followed by a feature film. With regards to the time left for "Entourage" on television, Wahlberg non-chalantly says: "We'll see; there could be more. But then a movie." Sounds like a pretty solid plan. But of course the spokesperson from HBO doesn't make it sounds as »

Bad Lieutenant Duo Picking Up 'Gun, With Occasional Music'
4 December 2009 12:01 AM, PST
Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans starring Nicholas Cage caught Alex by surprise when he saw it at Telluride, and now the film's producers are riding some good buzz to their next project as THR reports that brothers Gabe and Alan Polsky have optioned Jonathan Lethem's novel Gun, With Occasional Music, which follows an archetypal private eye as he delves into the murder of a prominent urologist. Interesting elements include super-smart children called "baby-heads," evolved animals, erotic nerve swapping, debit cards holding one's karma and a kangaroo that works for the mob. Wait, what the? Apparently the novel has drawn interest from filmmakers for over a decade so don't get your hopes up just yet. But I'm hoping this one gets off the ground. While I haven't read the book, judging by the cool elements Lethem has introduced in what sounds like an interesting universe, »

Must Watch: Antoine Fuqua's Brooklyn's Finest Gets a Trailer
3 December 2009 2:34 PM, PST
Overture Films has debuted a trailer for Antoine Fuqua's Brooklyn's Finest starring Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke, Wesley Snipes, Lili Taylor, Ellen Barkin, Will Patton, and Vincent D'Onofrio. This first premiered at Sundance earlier this year to some mediocre reviews, which is why its taken so long to hit theaters. I never saw it there and this is my first look at any footage from the film and I've got to say I'm actually impressed. It looks intense as hell and packed with lots of action, despite being an indie flick. Even if you know nothing about this, I highly suggest watching the trailer, you might find yourself hooked as well. Watch the official trailer for Antoine Fuqua's Brooklyn's Finest: [flv:http://media2.firstshowing.net/firstshowing/brooklynsfinest-tlr1_h480p.flv http://media2.firstshowing.net/firstshowing/brooklynsfinest-tlr1_h480p.jpg 598 338] You can also watch the Brooklyn's Finest trailer in High Definition on Apple When the NYPD targets the notoriously drug-ridden Bk housing project, three unconnected Brooklyn »

Avatar Performance Comparisons in a New Video Featurette
3 December 2009 2:06 PM, PST
If you're still hesitant about Avatar or just want to see a cool behind-the-scenes video, then you need to watch this. I'm not sure how I originally missed it, but thanks to Brian (@fuelbot on Twitter) I've decided to feature it. Hulu is hosting a behind-the-scenes Avatar video that in the middle features some side-by-side comparison shots between the final rendered look of Neytiri and actress Zoe Saldana acting out her scenes on the sound stage. I'm trying to limit how much footage I see of Avatar at this point, but I still suggest checking this out, as you will be impressed with how perfectly her emotions were captured. Take a look! Avatar is the story of an ex-Marine on the planet Pandora who, as an Avatar - a human mind in an alien body - finds himself in a desperate fight for his survival and that of the indigenous »

Leonardo DiCaprio Set to Voice Jack Frost in The Guardians
3 December 2009 12:58 PM, PST
Though Leonardo DiCaprio has starred in more than his fair share of diverse and unique films, the actor has never before been cast in an animated movie. However, all that changes as DreamWorks Animation has officially announced that he is the first actor to join the voice cast of the recently announced movie The Guardians, which focuses on an Avengers-like assembly of imaginary icons like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny who protect children from the forces of evil. DiCaprio will voice Jack Frost (as seen above) who truly looks like him if he were thrown into an animated winter Tim Burton-esque universe. Read on for the plot. The film, which isn't due out until 2012, is based on a series of highly anticipated yet-to-be published books written by William Joyce. Here's the skinny on the story that we'll see play out over the course of the movie: "When an »

From Pirate to Revolutionary, Johnny Depp Might Be Pancho Villa
3 December 2009 12:38 PM, PST
Johnny Depp's experience playing characters of different ethnic backgrounds is mostly limited to different variations of regular English accents. From old English (Sleepy Hollow) to drunk English (Pirates of the Caribbean), there aren't many dialects left in the United Kingdom he hasn't tackled. But now Depp will be sailing into semi-unfamiliar waters as Variety reports that he is in negotiations to star as the titular Mexican revolutionary in Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman With Six Fingers. Also in talks to co-star is the lovely Selma Hayek who previously worked with Depp in Once Upon a Time in Mexico. The biopic will be based on the more novel titled The Friends of Pancho Villa, written by James Carlos Blake, which focuses on how Villa, an early 20th-century bandit who became a guerilla fighter and a hero to the poor, and his ragtag team of bandits had a »
