Screen Grabs or Official Pics from Nightmare on Elm Street ?
1 December 2009
It irks us when sites pass off screen grabs, one can easily get from a film trailer, as "official stills" from the studio. Happens. And there is a difference. So we're unsure if these new pics from Omelette A Nightmare on Elm Street are merely doctored up screen grabs or photos. (We suspect the former.) Regardless, they are a cool look at the upcoming reboot hitting theaters April 30, 2010. »

1 December 2009
The Hollywoood trades continue to follow the leads of various sites like this one and our buddies at Moviehole. Tonight, Variety has confirmed - what was mentioned last week - that director Reuben Fleischer is returning for Zombieland 2 . Sony is reportedly finalizing deals to "bring the gang back" for another entry and it will, indeed, be in 3D. "Everyone had fun watching (the first) Zombieland ; making it a more visceral experience can only make it better," producer Gavin Polone tells the site. "I don't think you want to see Ordinary People in 3-D. But Zombieland is clearly one movie that will benefit from (the technique)." Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg are in talks to reprise their roles. »

Christmas Must-Haves: Horror Sneaker Bonanza
1 December 2009
The sneaker culture eludes me. Me? I'm a boots kind of guy. I know dudes that have more sneakers than Carrie Bradshaw's shoe collection in Sex in the City . Hey, to each their own. But I will admit to getting a bit excited when designers venture into horror territory and create a decent pair of sneaks based on some of my favorite films. Nike took a crack at the genre with a line-up based on A Nightmare on Elm Street , Friday the 13th , Dawn of the Dead and more. But those never saw the light of day (read more about that here ). Now, I've come across some more designs - some that will never be reproduced - that you ought to check out like a pair of sneakers that would make Pinhead grin and another set to stomp a city in. Of course, these suckers - if available - fetch. »

Another Bloody Mary Film in the Works
1 December 2009
Stephen Hudis is in the final leg of casting on The Summoning , a Bloody Mary-inspired horror film starring Robert Carradine and Tarah Paige. When a series of brutal murders occur on a college campus in New England, nobody believes when one girl claims the murderer is the legend 'Bloody Mary'. As the deaths pile up, and the causes become even stranger, they become aware that some far more scary is amongst them. Hudis has spent a good portion of his career in stunts (he was a tanker truck driver in Shocker ), however, that changed when he directed The Lesson in 2000. The Summoning will be his sophomore effort. Shooting is said to begin in spring of 2010. »

Eli Roth, Newman, Summit Plan An Invasion
1 December 2009
Summit Entertainment has acquired Invasion , a spec script by Ben Magid. Plot details are being kept under wraps at this time, however, we know the film opens with a wicked subway accident in Los Angeles in which the survivors (the film's protagonists) climb from the wreckage to find the, now "snowy," city in ruins. What they encounter topside is bodies, mobs of people in a state of panic and acidic "goo." The project is being described as Cloverfield -esque. Eli Roth and Eric Newman (producing partners on the upcoming Cotton ) will shepherd the project, says TrackingB.com . Interesting that Roth is getting behind it as he has his own Endangered Species flick in the works, another reportedly "alien"-themed film. Magid was one of the... »
Overture Kicks Off Crazies Viral Campaign
1 December 2009
In 1973, all George A. Romero had to rely on when it came to promoting his film The Crazies were posters, ads and word of mouth. Over 30 years later, things have certainly changed, as has the face of film promotion. Overture Films is tapping into the viral marketing scene for their upcoming remake of The Crazies , starring Timothy Olyphant and Radha Mitchell. Two websites have been established. The first is the blog Save Ogden Marsh , the fictional location of the film, and was created by a "Kim Jonson," a Greenpeace-lovin', environmentally-conscious gal. Then there's the site of Dakon/Pendrill Chemicals where a user name and password are required. What's it all amount to? Something involving the plot of the film, naturally, which tells of a bio-weapon... »
Drowning in Splatterhouse Screen Grabs
1 December 2009
Splatterhouse is eventually making its comeback on the video game scene. Long-delayed due to firings, hirings and creative tinkering, the Namco-Bandai title looks like it's finally being released in September 2010. A long ways off, don't I know it. But that hasn't stopped me from pre-ordering the damn thing. Splatterhouse - the tale of a dude who throws on a mask to transform into an ass-kicking behemoth - was a fave of mine in the early '90s. To see it rebooted puts a big ol' smile on my face, as do the screen grabs Kotaku is hosting right here . »

1 December 2009
Update: After being taken down at the studio's request - the photo is back up! If you missed it, here it is! An interview with Randy Falk of the collectibles company Neca has yielded this: A full look at the new Freddy Krueger from New Line's A Nightmare on Elm Street . Perhaps this will inspire the powers-that-be at the studio to reveal a proper photo of the glove-wielding Jackie Earle Haley. This isn't the real deal, but it gives you an idea of what's to come. The reboot hits theaters on April 30, 2010. Of the toy, Falk says, "Yes, we have re-acquired the rights to Freddy and Jason. Michael Myers is not part of the New Line franchise but we do have the classic Michael Myers rights as well. We are working on figures from the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street and... »
