Vincent was born and raised in Ile Bizard, Quebec, although he currently resides in Montreal during the off-season. He met best friend Brad Richards, a center man for Tampa Bay just like Lecavalier himself, at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame, in Saskatchewan, as a teen. Both played for Rimouski of the QMJHL for their junior careers. Richards was selected by Tampa Bay 64th overall, in the third round, while Lecavalier was taken first overall, in the first round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
