Vincent was born and raised in Ile Bizard, Quebec, although he currently resides in Montreal during the off-season. He met best friend Brad Richards, a center man for Tampa Bay just like Lecavalier himself, at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame, in Saskatchewan, as a teen. Both played for Rimouski of the QMJHL for their junior careers. Richards was selected by Tampa Bay 64th overall, in the third round, while Lecavalier was taken first overall, in the first round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Was roommates with Brad Richards at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame as a teen.

(April 2005) Was on the list for Team Canada at the 2005 IIHF World Hockey Championships, but declined the invitation as it was discovered that the knee injury he played with during the playoffs with the AK Kazan Bars of the Russian League, would require surgery.

(August 2005) Signed a long term deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning for four years worth 27.5 million.

(February 2006) Going to play for Team Canada in the 2006 Olympic games in Turin, Italy.
