She might not have had a hand in bringing the 1922 classic vampire film Nosferatu to life, but, by all other accounts, she's certainly been an original in the vampire fiction world. She's written dozens of books about the lore, including the very well known Interview With The Vampire and . . . well, she's Anne Rice for Pete's sake. She's written a new book entitled Angel Time that releases today, and she had an interview with the Wall Street Journal about it recently... »

Anne Rice gets vampires. She understands the dangerous charm of these wily bloodsuckers and why audiences are attracted to their stories, and she spent years writing about them even before the Tom Cruise-starring big-screen adaptation of "Interview With the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles" in 1994. In the last few years, though, Rice quit writing about vampires and another author — Stephenie Meyer, with her "Twilight" tales of teen love — replaced Rice as the superstar storyteller of bloodsucking immortals.
Though she said she hasn't read any of the "Twilight" books, Rice still gets vampires and appreciates why they continue to fascinate people. A viewing of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's film »

I think the appropriate subtitle for this article is: the day Clarissa opened up a can of worms that was better left closed. Mostly because I've seen how passionate Twilight fans can be. Are Vampire Diaries fans as passionate?
I would like to begin by saying that I have read each and every Twilight book, as well as the entire Vampire Diaries series. I also saw the first Twilight movie and have religiously followed the Vampire Diaries episodes each week. In fact, I love them (Tvd, that is…..). This article is meant to be a comparison between the two series on a variety of factors that they both share, not necessarily an attack on one or the other.
The Sparkle Factor
I simply cannot say this enough times: vampires should not sparkle in the sun. The fact that the Twilight vampires do is an out (since Meyer chose to have »

In the spirit of Halloween '09, we're breaking out reviews (some new, some old) of some Fall Frights you may want to work into your monthly viewing.

Gotta love the Internet rumor-mongerers--now that Queen Of The Damned is hitting theaters and Jason X has a set release date in April, you have to wonder if any of those people feel chagrined for insisting the movies were going direct to video. Queen certainly doesn't feel like something that warrants small-screen consignment, especially on a visual level, as this is one of the lushest-looking horror films in recent memory. It's pretty lush in the dramatic department, too, at least in its first and more enjoyable half.
As most anyone who's been paying attention to the film's development knows, Queen is based not just on the novel of the title but also author Anne Rice's previous installment, The Vampire Lestat (onscreen, »

Gallery / 10 Great Irish Horror Movies / Click here Did you know that Halloween has Irish roots? The spooky holiday was created by the Celts as the day of All Souls that ghosts walked and the undead spoke. The 2,000-year-old ancient Celtic festival is called Samhain (pronounced sow-in). The Celts celebrated their new year on November 1, a day that marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of winter – a time of year they associated with death. It was believed that on October 31, the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurry, and ghosts returned to earth. To mark the coming of otherworldly spirits, Celtic Druids built large sacred bonfires, where everyone gathered to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic gods. During Samhain, the Celts wore costumes, usually consisting of animal heads and skins, and told each other’s fortunes. »

Robert Downey Jr is in talks to replace Tom Cruise as bloodsucker Lestat in a prequel to 1994 movie Interview With The Vampire.

According to celebrity blogger PerezHilton, Downey Jr. is in talks to take on the Lestat role, in a movie that would focus heavily on the character and how he came to be a vampire.
Neil Jordan's Interview with the Vampire boasted a star-studded cast including Cruise, Brad Pitt, Christian Slater and Kirsten Dunst - and earned two Oscar nominations. »

"But I can say without hesitation that I love Robert Downey Jr and I think he would make a fabulous Vampire Lestat." Did you hear ABC is coming out with a new show called Who Wants to Be a Vampire? Yup, and each week the contestants will come from a pool of Hollywood actors who desperately want to tap into the "youth market" and do a solid for the tween market. I kid, of course, but it certainly feels like that's what's been happening of late now that Twilight has wreaked havoc on the industry and taken an entire sub-genre hostage. The latest casting rumor claims Robert Downey Jr. is now angling to play a vampire. Not just any blood sucker, mind you, but Anne Rice's iconic Lestat de Lioncourt, once played by Tom Cruise in Neil Jordan's adaptation of Interview with the Vampire and Stuart Townsend in Queen of the Damned. Lestat, of course, shows up in many of Rice's vampire novels, and...

Sounds like Robert Downey Jr. has been bitten by the same vampire bug that the rest of the entertainment industry has succumbed to. Bloody Disgusting reports that the Iron Man actor is looking to play the vampire Lestat Du Lioncort in The Vampire Chronicles, a revamping, if you will, of Anne Rice's popular novels. If the deal is struck, Downey will be inheriting the role of Lestat, an 18th century nobleman-turned-bloodsucker, from Tom Cruise, who played him in 1994's Interview With the Vampire. (Stuart Townshend also had his turn at playing Lestat in the 2002 adaptation Queen of the Damned.) Hopefully he won't... »

Our bessie mate Robert Downey Jr. is reportedly in talks to play the vampire Lestat, according to the guys over at Bloody Disgusting. The sometime-Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes may add Lestat to his character gallery if he signs a deal to star in Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles.Vampires are, of course, so hot right now after Twilight and TV's True Blood, and Downey Jr. would be a hot choice for a vampire. But what can we expect to see? Interview with the Vampire, with Tom Cruise in the Lestat role, covered the first book in the series, and Queen of the Damned, with Stuart Townsend taking the role, the third. The middle one is mostly prequel, explaining how Lestat came to be the vampire he became, and why he's not such a bad fellow as he might have appeared in Interview.Whether Downey will take the »

This vampire craze is getting out of hand. Stephenie Meyer writes a series of bad Twilight books and a few years later we’re wading through fanged teens and gothic heroes on screen. Now one of the biggest stars in Hollywood is considering a vampire series. No, not Robert Pattinson…
According to Bloody-Disgusting, Robert Downey Jr. is in close talks to headline a revival of Anne Rice’s “The Vampire Chronicles.” Another franchise for Rdj? Iron Man 2 is in post-production, Sherlock Holmes will probably solve more than one mystery, and now this.
Downey would play Lestat de Lioncourt, a French nobleman turned bloodsucker and the main character in the majority of the best-selling series. Universal Pictures is looking to restart the series, which could mean a remake of 1994’s Interview with the Vampire.
Lestat was played by Tom Cruise in the original film, which also starred Brad Pitt and a young Kirsten Dunst. »

The horror website Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Iron Man himself Robert Downey Jr. is to play the vampire Lestat in a re-jig of Anne Rice's novels. The novel Interview With A Vampire was mane into a 1994 film with Tom Cruise in the Lestat Du Lioncort role, but it seems that the slightly, more junior actor Downey will play the charming throat-biter in a new movie.
Universal plan to reboot the series with a new film. The books in the series are "Interview With The Vampire," "The Vampire Lestat," "The Queen of the Damned," "The Tale of the Body Thief," "Memnoch the Devil," "The Vampire Armand," "Pandora," "Merrick," "Blood and Gold," "Blackwood Farm" and "Blood Canticle."
Stuart Townsend play Lestat in the 2002 movie version of The Queen Of The Damned

Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that they have received word from a very reliable source that Universal Pictures is looking to re-start Anne Rice's "The Vampire Chronicles," which tells the tale of vampire Lestat Du Lioncort, a nobleman-turned-vampire in the late 18th century. Tom Cruise has previously played Lestat in "Interview with the Vampire" and Stuart Townsend portrayed the character in "Queen of the Damned." So which actor is the studio lining up to take on Lestat next? The site has confirmed that Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man) is currently in close talks. No word on which book in the series the studio will tackle. »

It's been rumoured for a few years now that Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles might be heading back to the big screen in some way, shape or form. Neil Jordan's Interview with the Vampire was a pretty big hit back in 1994, and although Queen of the Damned didn't fare nearly as well, we all know that vampires are selling right now and it's best to strike while the iron is hot. At one point, Tom Cruise's production company was sniffing out the rights to the fourth book [1] in the series, The Tale of the Body Thief, but now Bloody Disgusting [2] tells us that Universal Pictures wants to "restart" the franchise instead. What's more, apparently Robert Downey Jr. is interested in taking over Tom Cruise's role as Lestat Du Lioncort! It has been confirmed that Rdj is in advanced talks for the role, and while he hasn't »

Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that the ever-charming Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr., is in “close talks” to play the vampire Lestat in a “restart” of The Vampire Chronicles, a series of novels by author Anne Rice first written in the ’70s. It (mostly) tells the tale of a French nobleman, Lestat de Lioncourt, who gets turned into a vampire in the 18th century.
[Update: Author Anne Rice has given her thoughts on the possibility of Robert Downey Jr. playing Lestat. Also, it's been revealed which novel the first film will be based on. Bottom of the post for details]
Universal Pictures is reportedly behind the new reboot style film franchise of Rice’s novels. The character of Lestat has appeared twice in adaptations of the popular novels: in 1994 with Interview with the Vampire (also the first novel in the series), portrayed by Tom Cruise, and again in 2002 with Queen of the Damned, this time played by Stuart Townsend. There’s no news on which book from the series this new “franchise” would be based on - will it start with Interview and, if successful, work its way in series order? »

Actor Robert Downey Jr. has spent the last decade climbing back into the limelight. Now he seems poised to take over Hollywood, one film franchise at a time. Downey Jr. charmed the world as Tony Stark in Iron Man, a film that defied expectations and turned a B-list hero into a $585-million juggernaut. This Christmas, Downey Jr. hopes to capture lightning in a bottle once more by reinventing Sherlock Holmes. With the latest news, it appears Downey Jr. is going for the hat trick.
An unnamed source has revealed that Universal Pictures is looking to resurrect Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles with none other than Downey Jr. as the vampire Lestat Du Lioncort, a character featured in both previous attempts to adapt Rice's books. It's been 15 years since Tom Cruise donned a blond wig and frilly shirt to play Lestat in Interview With the Vampire, and seven years since »

Like everyone in the civilized world, I love Robert Downey Jr., and it's because I love him that I fervently hope that this fangbanger rumor hits sunlight, and bursts into flames. Bloody Disgusting reports that Universal is looking to cash in on the blood-sucking frenzy, and reboot Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles, and that Downey is in talks to play the famous Lestat de Lioncourt.
Lestat was the hero of most of Rice's vampire novels. Blond, bisexual, and a blend of poetry and snark, his seductive powers led him into all kinds of scrapes. He seduced men and women, ran around with the Devil, swapped bodies with humans, seduced the first vampire (who just happened to be an Egyptian queen), and found time to be a rock star. At thirteen, he was one of the most wonderful literary characters I had ever met and by my 20s I found him pretty annoying. »

The Dandy
Iron Man stud Robert Downey Jr. is in close talks to star in a potential reboot of Anne Rice’s macabre series The Vampire Chronicles.
According to Bloody Digusting, Downey Jr., who is busting out with two highly anticipated films in Iron Man 2 and Sherlock Holmes, is believed to play Mr. Metrosexual vampire himself, Lestat.
Lestat was originally played by Tom Cruise in Neil Jordan’s Interview with the Vampire (loved it) and by Stuart Townsend in ’02’s Queen of the Damned (didn’t love it).
The Vampire Chronicles are a series of stories that center on Lestat de Lioncourt, a French dandy who becomes a vampire in the 1700s.
Universal Pictures now owns the deed to the stories though Warner Bros. still retains rights for the first two movies.
I’m seeing of a lot of complaining about this rumor. Not based on the absurdity of the rumor, »
