So who is Van Buren's mystery guy on Law & Order?

26 October 2009 12:59 PM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Kona told you recently that Benjamin Bratt is coming back to Law & Order for a short time. S. Epatha Merkerson's Van Buren character has been diagnosed with cancer, which always gives shows a chance to bring back old characters. But it also gives a show a chance to bring on new characters, and that's what's going to happen starting this Friday.

Ernie Hudson is joining the show for several episodes. He'll play a guy that's "the love of her life."

'Law & Order' exclusive: Van Buren's mystery lover revealed!

26 October 2009 9:27 AM, PDT | EW - Ausiello Files | See recent EW.com - The Ausiello Files news »

The secret's out! S. Epatha Merkerson's mystery lover on Law & Order is none other than Winston Zeddemore Ernie Hudson! Merkerson's cancer-stricken Van Buren recently revealed that she had met the love of her life, but the identity of her new suitor has remained a secret. All that will change this Friday when Hudson begins a multi-episode arc as her new boyfriend. News of Hudson's hiring follows my scoop that Van Buren would soon be getting a visit from former colleague Rey Curtis (Benjamin Bratt). All of this attention being paid to Van Buren has me wondering: Should we be worried that she won't surv. »

Benjamin Bratt Returns to Law & Order

23 October 2009 2:44 PM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

It turns out you can go home again. After a couple of failed series (Jerry Bruckheimer's military drama E-Ring and A&E's rehab drama The Cleaner), the very delicious Benjamin Bratt is returning to the show that made him a star: Law & Order. According to NBC, Bratt's gonna make a one-episode appearance later this season in an installment that "reunites him with his former boss Lt. Anita Van Buren (S. Epatha Merkerson)." The network hasn't announced a specific airdate for the ep. Even if it is just a flyby, we'll be more than happy to have Benjamin back on TV. Rey Curtis was always a great character, and heck, he was Julia Roberts' best boyfriend ever. »

Benjamin Bratt Returning to Law & Order

23 October 2009 2:35 PM, PDT | TVGuide - Breaking News | See recent TVGuide - Breaking News news »

Benjamin Bratt will return as Detective Reynaldo Curtis on Law & Order, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

Curtis will reunite with his former boss, Lt. Anita van Buren (S. Epatha Merkerson), on an upcoming episode. Bratt was nominated for a best supporting actor Emmy for the role in 1999. After four seasons, he left the show that same year to pursue a film career.

Benjamin Bratt to guest-star on Modern Family

"I am thrilled that Ben is coming back for a return appearance," executive producer Dick Wolf said in a statement. "He joined us for our recent 20th anniversary celebration and it was like he never left."

Bratt's casting was first reported by Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello.

Bratt starred in the A&E series The Cleaner for two seasons and will guest-star this fall on ABC's hit sitcom Modern Family, playing Sofia Vergara's unreliable but charismatic ex-husband.

Exclusive: Benjamin Bratt returns to 'Law & Order'

This should boost those sagging Friday ratings. Benjamin Bratt has signed on to reprise his role as Det. Rey Curtis on Law & Order, sources confirm to me exclusively. Bratt, who vacated the mothership a decade ago, will shoot his one-episode comeback next month. I'm told the actor will figure heavily in a story involving S. Epatha Merkerson's Van Buren. Might he be back to comfort her during her current health crisis? That's my guess. Happy to have Det. Curtis back, even if it's just for one episode? Sound off below! Photo Credit: Albert L. Alynda Wheat's Beat Cop: Having fun storming the 'Castle'

13 October 2009 11:55 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

There was a book? All this time there was an actual, buyable, readable Castle book and nobody told me? I mean sure, I could've read this post from Jeff, this one from Mandi, or this one here. But Jeff and Mandi are all the way across the country in the New York office! You and I are, we're right here. All I know is, if Beckett gets to read that book, then I'm getting my hands on it too. But—and let me know if this is a step too meta—what I really want is a book about Beckett »

Alynda Wheat's Beat Cop: 'Three Rivers' might need some CPR

5 October 2009 1:51 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

My name is Alynda and I am an organ donor. There, now everybody knows and we don't have to go through any confusion or sticky sitches in the hospital, Three Rivers-style. What did you think of the Rivers debut, the few of you who watched it? (If you missed it, by the way, you can catch it here.) I'm still trying to decide if I'm giving it too much leeway because star Alex O'Loughlin is in my imaginary-boyfriend stable (and we're pretty serious, with his having met my mom and all). But I'll try to be objective. Let's start »

Alynda Wheat's Beat Cop: Hallelujah! It's the real (Jack) McCoy

28 September 2009 5:42 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Friday’s more-than-solid premiere of Law & Order tells us one of two things: either creator Dick Wolf is right, and the show has 20 more years of cops and courts left in it, or they’re setting up one hell of a series-ending season. We all know (mainly because Wolf’s been telling anyone who’ll listen for just about forever now) that tying Gunsmoke’s two-decade record was a major goal. With Friday’s premiere he sets about realizing that goal for this 20th season. And after a series of bumpy transitions among the police and prosecutor ranks (I still »

Tiff #7: It was a very good day

15 September 2009 4:43 AM, PDT | blogs.suntimes.com/ebert | See recent Roger Ebert's Blog news »

I saw three new movies on Monday. Each one could have been the best film of the day. I can't choose among them, so alphabetically: Werner Herzog's "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans," Atom Egoyan's "Chloe" and Rodrigo Garcia's "Mother and Child." A story involving a cop uncontrollably strung out on drugs. A story involving a wife who meets a hooker. A story about three woman whose lives are shaped by the realities of adoption. Three considerable filmmakers. Three different tones. Three stories that improvise on genres instead of following them. Three titles that made me wonder, why can't every day be like this?

Nicolas Cage and Werner Herzog were surely destined to work together. Radical talents are drawn to one another. Cage tends to exceed the limitations of a role, Herzog tends to exceed the limitations of film itself. Knowing nothing about conditions during the shoot, »

Pee-wee's Playhouse: Paul Reubens and Friends Returning

11 August 2009 6:04 AM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Actor Paul Reubens is bringing his trademark character, Pee-wee Herman, and his playhouse full of friends back to their roots. Unfortunately, unless you live in Southern California, you may not be able to see them.

The Pee-wee Herman Show was a Los Angeles stage show in the early 1980s. It resembled the Saturday morning kids show that followed but the original concept was more of an adult parody of classic children's programming. Following appearances on late-night TV, Reubens' Pee-wee character became so popular that he was given his own family-friendly feature film, Pee-wee's Big Adventure.

The success of the movie paved the way for the Pee-wee's Playhouse TV series. Budgeted at $325,000 an episode, the show garnered 22 Emmy Awards during its five year run. Aside from Reubens, the series features Phil Hartman, Laurence Fishburne, S. Epatha Merkerson, Shirley Stoler, George McGrath, Alison »

Law & Order Meets Its Match: Gunsmoke

18 May 2009 7:30 PM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

It made it. After spending yet another season's end on the bubble, Law & Order is being welcomed back to NBC for a 16-episode 20th season, where it will tie Gunsmoke as the longest-running prime-time drama on TV. NBC hasn't officially announced the pickup, but sources are telling such things to Variety and other outlets. Law & Order, the daddy of the modern-day procedural and the mother ship of creator Dick Wolf's L&O fleet, will most likely show up on the network's midseason schedule, as it did this year. The detect-and-prosecute series, which still boasts a couple of thesps—Sam Waterston and S. Epatha Merkerson—from the 1990s, is more famous for its... »

[TV] Law & Order Meets Its Maker?

7 May 2009 10:38 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

It was a dark, rainy afternoon in New York City. On speakerphone with the other executives in Los Angeles, a group of business-clads are studying charts. The New Yorkers are pouring coffee, preparing for a long night of decisions. The La exec's are doing the same and gesture wildly at a flat screen television that's on in the background of our scene. On the screen is a familiar face. It's Jack McCoy. But as we recognize him, we're back in New York. Arms still waving wildly around the table. Meanwhile in La: "We have to pick one!" One says pounding a fist on the table. "How can we decide?" The New York exec's respond, looking for the caffeine rush and taking long swings from their coffee mugs that have a familiar Peacock logo on the side.

Suddenly in La the arms have stopped waving and they are brought down to a low whisper. »

WGA Awards Fete Slumdog, Milk, Mad Men, 30 Rock

7 February 2009 10:21 PM, PST | Digital Media Law | See recent Digital Media Law news »

Slumdog Millionaire continued its winning streak this awards season, with Simon Beaufoy winning the 2009 Writers Guild of America award this evening for adapted screenplay. Dustin Lance Black won the award for best original screenplay for Milk. Slumdog has already won DGA, SAG, PGA and Golden Globe awards, and is a multi-award favorite for the Oscars. Milk has won SAG and PGA awards and is also a strong Oscar contender in multiple categories.

On the television side, awards went to the writers of Mad Men (drama), 30 Rock (comedy), Recount and John Adams in long-form categories, and In Treatment, Breaking Bad, and The Simpsons in various other fields. Controversially, among other awards was one for videogame writing (to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed). Some publishers declined to submit their titles for consideration, viewing the award as primarily an organizing tool for a guild seeking to gain a foothold in a non-unionized sector. »
