Martine McCutcheon on trying to survive as an actress – and why the main character in her debut novel is undisguisedly her

'You will be nice to her, won't you?" Martine McCutcheon's somewhat overprotective publicist says to me when our interview ends. They are feeling a bit bruised because actress-turned-singer-turned-first-time-novelist McCutcheon has just been bashed up at an awards ceremony by screenwriter Lynda La Plante for having the temerity to write a book, The Mistress. "Martine's a very sweet lady, but have you read the book?" La Plante told the Daily Mail. "It's a load of c***. She'll have a lot of publicity, but it's the biggest load of rubbish." I guess we can read behind the Mail's ridiculous asterisks.

La Plante's intervention produced a wave of articles attacking celebrity authors – Katie Price (aka Jordan), Kerry Katona, Ulrika Jonsson, and now McCutcheon – who, it was argued, were taking the »

Windsor announced last week that she is to leave her role as Mitchell matriarch Peggy next year. She explained that she made the decision because she wants to spend more time with her husband Scott. BBC Announce Huge Slate Of Feature Film Projects

18 May 2009 3:33 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Excuse me if this story reads like little more than a really long list of future films but there are so many new movies on the BBC’s slate, and so many of them sound so good, that I want to give them all a quick shout out. There’s going to be something for everyone (well, nearly everyone) in this selection. We’ll get the previously announced ones out of the way first. Peter Morgan is making his directorial debut with The Special Relationship, a sequel to The Deal and The Queen, both of which he scripted. This one will focus on Blair’s relationship with Bill Clinton. Michael Sheen will reprise his Blair turn, and Dennis Quaid and Julianne Moore have been cast as the Clintons. May I suggest that if they are looking for a Monica Lewinski, Martine McCutcheon would be just perfect. Hilariously so. Read More »
