'House': Robert Sean Leonard takes center stage

29 November 2009 2:44 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

A lot of supporting actors on a TV series would jump at the chance to have an episode where they're the central focus.

"House's" Robert Sean Leonard, who plays the title character's (Hugh Laurie) colleague and best friend, Dr. James Wilson, is not one of those people.

"Oh, no, it's my worst nightmare. Are you kidding?" Leonard said during a conference call last week. "[When] I read 'House,' and Wilson was in about three scenes a show, I thought, This is perfect. You know, I'm the Carlton the Doorman of my show. I'm not the most ambitious guy. I like playing the best friend. It's good to be the lead of a show for a week, but I wouldn't spread it all around too much. I like my role the way it is."

Leonard is nonetheless stepping up in Monday's (Nov. 30) episode of "House," which is appropriately titled "Wilson." He »

Orlando Jones to Clash With Foreman on House

16 November 2009 5:19 PM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

House viewers have heard a lot about Foreman's past, but fans are about to actually meet one person from it.

Sources confirm to Michael Ausiello that Orlando Jones has been cast as Foreman’s estranged (and currently imprisoned) brother, Marcus.

The episode with Marcus has already been shot and will air in February. It will find the the siblings reconnecting, on the eve of Marcus’ parole hearing, but only briefly.

A disagreement will ensue and a major development will take place as a result.

On the small screen, Jones has appeared most recently on Pushing Daisies, Rules of Engagement and Ghost Whisperer. »

'House' exclusive: Orlando Jones checks in as Foreman's brother

16 November 2009 3:21 PM, PST | EW - Ausiello Files | See recent EW.com - The Ausiello Files news »

House is finally introducing us to the missing branch in Foreman's family tree. Sources confirm to me exclusively that Orlando Jones has been cast as Foreman's estranged (and currently incarcerated) brother, Marcus. Although we have previously met Foreman's father and mother (played by Charles S. Dutton and Beverly Todd, respectively), his brother has only been mentioned in passing. Little is know about Marcus except that he, like Foreman, had a troubled childhood. Jones' episode, which has already been shot and is scheduled to air in February, finds the siblings reconnecting on the eve of Marcus' parole hearing. Not surprisingly, House »

Review: ‘Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant’ just for built-in fans

5 November 2009 6:53 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

The recent rise in melodramatic teen vampire fare has been interesting to witness. From the golden-hearted sparkling heartthrob in Twilight to the multitude of sappy TV dramas (sans True Blood), the watering down of the classic (and dapper!) “monster” from Eastern Europe has been both sad and alluring. It’s like passing by a car accident between a truckload of Nerf balls and the Munster-mobile.

In the case of Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant, the Nerf truck totally decimated the poor Munster car. Soft in the middle and tragically predictable, the latest from Paul Weitz (brother to New Moon’s Chris Weitz) is fitting for its target audience, but doesn’t have enough meat for the entire family. For a movie based on a series of books aimed at the young adult genre, the film does a fantastic job of entertaining its core but doesn’t leave much for anybody over 16-years-old. »

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant

25 October 2009 8:14 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

It’s a difficult tightrope to walk, making a film adaptation of a book, especially if the book is well-loved.  On one hand, if you change the book’s content too much, you run the risk of angering the fans who will turn on you for all the differences between the story in their heads and the one you’ve committed to film.  On the other hand, if you don’t alter the story enough so that a few hundred pages’ worth of information gets crammed properly into 90 minutes of movie, those who have not read the book(s) will not understand what is going on or why things are happening, and thus will not be able to follow the story thoroughly.  I am sorry to say that Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant does not walk that tightrope very well and, by the third act, tumbles clumsily into the safety net below. »

‘Cirque Du Freak’ Movie Brought Action And An Ok Plot

24 October 2009 7:55 PM, PDT | OnTheFlix | See recent OnTheFlix news »

Universal Pictures' Cirque du Freak :The Vampire's Assistant movie brought action and an ok plot . It stars: John C. Reilly, Ken Watanabe, Josh Hutcherson, Chris Massoglia, Ray Stevenson, Patrick Fugit, Orlando Jones, Willem Dafoe, and Salma Hayek. Although the storyline/plot left something to be desired, "Cirque du Freak :The Vampire's Assistant" did deliver more action than I had originally expected it to. The movie focused around character , Darren Shan who is best friends with a guy named Steve. They eventually end up going to a "Cirque du Freak" show that changes young Darren's life forever. »

‘Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant’ With John C. Reilly Not Freaky Enough

23 October 2009 12:54 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – For everything that Paul Weitz’s “Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant” does right, there’s something about the film that just doesn’t work. More manic than quirky and more cluttered than consistent, “Cirque” features a few great performances and interesting characters but they’re sabotaged by the other members of this cinematic freak show.

Rating: 2.0/5.0

With a plot that plays like what “Beetlejuice”-era Tim Burton might have done with the current vampire craze (“True Blood,” “The Twilight Saga’s New Moon”), “Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant” is an adaptation of the books by Darren Shan that is constantly shooting itself in the foot through bad editing, a distracting supporting cast, a super-dull lead, and far too much expository dialogue. A non-ending that tries to set up the franchise a la “The Golden Compass” doesn’t help the feeling that you’ve »

Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant

Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant

Directed by: Paul Weitz

Cast: Chris Massoglia, John C. Reilly, Josh Hutcherson, Michael Cerveris, Ken Watanabe, Salma Hayek

Running Time: 1 hr 48 mins

Rating: PG-13

Release Date: October 23, 2009

Plot: A teenager (Massoglia) stumbles upon a freak show and meets a wide variety of unusual characters. He must decide if he wants to change his normal life and become a vampire’s assistant for Crepsley (Reilly) in order to save a friend.

Who’S It For? Need your vampire fix before The Twilight Saga: New Moon? This should do the trick. Heck, if you check out the movie posters, they even try to get Massoglia looking a little like Robert Pattinson.

Expectations: Reilly is great. I’ll happily sit through anything the man attempts. One of my favorite moments was getting to see him perform at a small Chicago bar while he was in character as Dewey Cocks. »
