'Clash Of The Titans' Teaser Trailer (Insert Comic Book Connection Here)

11 November 2009 3:16 PM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Okay, so the upcoming remake of "Clash of the Titans" isn't a comic book movie. I could try to make all sorts of connections between the film's cast (Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Danny Huston, etc.) and comic book movies ("Green Lantern," "Batman Begins," "Wolverine"), but let's be honest here: it looks really freakin' cool and that's why I'm posting it here. Enjoy.

Giant scorpions, Medusa, "300"-style brawls and Liam Neeson as Zeus. I'm sold.

If you like what you see (and even if you don't), be sure to check out the Freeze Frame "Clash of the Titans" commentary on MoviesBlog.MTV.com, too. »

Clash of the Titans Teaser Trailer

11 November 2009 11:41 AM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Warner Bros has released the trailer for Clash of the Titans, a remake under the direction of Louis Leterrier.  Full of guitar riffs (The Used’s “Bird and the Worm”) and quick cuts, the studio is making it clear this won’t be anything like the stop-motion original.  There’s also a Medusa that doesn’t turn a man to stone, high-flying Perseus (sans winged horse), and a Texas-sized scorpion none too happy with the swords and sandal humans.

There’s hardly a mention of it’s cast, which includes Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Gemma Arterton, Ralph Fiennes, Danny Huston, and more.  The CGI scorpion gets top billing, I guess.

Last gripe, what’s with the tag line?  “Titans will clash.”  That’s the best they could come up with?  “Well, the movie is called Clash of the Titans, so we need something catchy and… Oh, Mad Men is on! »

First New ‘Clash of the Titans’ Trailer Hits The Web

11 November 2009 7:00 AM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

On what started off as a slow news week, we already have the premiere of two brand new trailers today, the first of which being a brand new trailer of Louis Leterrier’s remake of the 1981 classic, Clash of the Titans.

Though the original is considered sacred by some (and schlock by others), the newest trailer looks to legitimize the story even more. Conceptually, this is the proportionate size that this film should have been, and technology is finally at a place where a director like Leterrier can pull it off.

The film stars Sam Worthington, Gemma Aterton, and some of the coolest casting decisions for Greek gods ever seen. In no particular order, Liam Neeson is stepping in a Zeus, Ralph Fiennes is playing Hades, and Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) will be playing Poseidon.

Disappointing. I don't know so much about this one. "Titans Will Clash" - sounds like something out of WWE. Perhaps the next trailer will be more thought out with a better choice of music. After seeing some low-resolution photos of what looked to be some awesome one-sheets for Louis Leterrier’s upcoming remake of Clash of the Titans, combined with its stellar cast, I couldn’t be more excited to see Sam Worthington lay down the pain as Perseus against Medusa and the Kraken.

Based on Greek Mythology, the Warner Bros. production of Clash of the Titans is a remake of the classic 1981 film, well-known for its practical stop-motion effects. We’ve been waiting patiently to get a real good look at the film and that time has finally come.

So without further ado, here is the first official teaser trailer for Clash of the Titans:

The Five Greatest Comic Book Vampires

30 October 2009 12:29 PM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Halloween season always provides reminders of the various creatures permeating popular culture, but you don't need the spook-filled holiday to raise awareness for vampires—thanks to shows like "True Blood" and the blockbuster "Twilight" franchise, everybody and their grandmother are well aware of the blood-sucking menace.

What some might not be as aware of is the multitude of both terrifying and terrific vampire characters within the comic book pantheon. There are so many compelling vampires on the paneled page, in fact, that I can only list a handful of my favorites.

Check out five of my personal favorite comic book vampires, then check back in with us in the comments for some of yours!

Blade

Normally, I wouldn't look too kindly upon a self-loathing vampire—flaunt it if you've got it, as they say—but Blade the Vampire Hunter makes self-loathing look pretty awesome.

Discuss: The Characters We Wish Were Serialized

29 October 2009 3:32 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

There are times when our fandom gets satiated. We see a world stretch out before us on the big screen, come to adore a character, and then get to follow him or her through a number of films. In some cases, they might even start to feel like an old friend, popping up over and over again. We'll become attuned to their swagger, the tone of their voice, the moments they love or loathe. Other characters, their presence in our lives is deliciously, yet painfully brief -- destined only for repeat viewings of the same scenes, the same reactions, the same outcome over and over again.

The more our movie world leans towards sequels, the more part of me wishes certain characters could have continuing life on the big screen. (Played by the same actor, of course. No Vince Vaughn/Norman Bates recasts allowed.) On the mind from earlier this month, »

Casting Notes: Billy Bob Thornton Goes Faster with The Rock; Dannny Huston Seeks Justice for Lincoln Assassination; Jovovich Joins Psycho Thriller

27 October 2009 10:50 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

The casting news tonight is all over the place: First we have Billy Bob Thornton teaming up with Dwayne Johnson in Faster, a George Tillman Jr. (Men of Honor, Notorious) action drama vehicle. Johnson will star as Driver, an ex-con out for revenge  following his brother's murder. Thornton plays Cop, a (you guessed it) police officer tailing Driver. There's also Killer, a hitman who's after Driver for some reason (my god, maybe he killed Driver's brother?!). The latter role remains uncast. Danny Huston has signed on to Robert Redford's period drama, The Conspirator, as a prosecutor in the Lincoln assassination trial. The film will specifically center on Mary Surratt, portrayed by Robin Wright Penn, who was infamous as the lone female co-conspirator in the assassination. Huston will also be joined by James McAvoy as Fredrick Aiken, Surratt's reluctant defense lawyer, as well as Justin Long, Tom Wilkinson, and Kevin Kline. »

Claws for concern? A Blu-ray review of X-Men Origins: Wolverine

25 October 2009 6:00 PM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Released on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK last Monday, 20th Century Fox's X-Men Origins: Wolverine has already broken records for disc sales in the USA.

Over the past week, I've been steadily working my way through the Blu-ray with its hours of bonus features.

Wolverine has been a somewhat controversial project. There were persistent rumours of production troubles; an unfinished version of the movie was leaked online a month before its cinema release; and when it did come out, it was clawed by critics and received mostly negative reviews.

Some have said the DNA of the 20th Century Fox franchise has mutated into a mess or even a monstrosity.

So what's it like? Is this a Blu-ray worth adding to your collection? Well, let's find out...

Warner Brothers has released the first trailer for Edge of Darkness starring Mel Gibson as a grieving father bent on seeking out the truth surrounding his daughter's murder.

It has been roughly a decade since we have seen Mel this emotionally fired up in a domestic environment in Payback and Lethal Weapon 4, returning to the type of role he has already proven more an adept at handling. Edge of Darkness could be the film that gets Mel back on the tracks after derailing from numerous real-world incidents.

Co-starring with Mel are Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Bojana Novakovic and Shawn Roberts. Edge of Darkness opens wide on January 29.
