Focus Features Sets 2010 Release Dates for Six Films

12 November 2009 4:04 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The other day we premiered the first images and official synopses from Focus Features Greenberg, The Eagle of the Ninth, and Somewhere.  Now, thanks to Focus sending out a press release, we have an idea when some of them are getting released.

On March 12th, director Noah Baumbach’s Greenberg will hit theaters for a limited release. The film stars Ben Stiller.  After that we’re getting Thomas Balmes Babies on April 16th and director Anton Corbijn’s The American on September. 1st.  That’s the George Clooney assassin film.  Sometime in the third quarter will be Kevin Macdonald’s Roman adventure The Eagle of the Ninth, and in November It’s Kind of a Funny Story gets released.  The big question mark is Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere, which still doesn’t have a release date.

The thing to remember is release dates change all the time, so before you »

Blu-Ray Review: Annoying ‘The Answer Man’ Full of Hot Air

10 November 2009 9:36 AM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – “Hell is other people!” declares reclusive author Arlen Faber. That’s nothing compared to the hell of fake people, who permeate so many subpar pictures marketed as “indie” entertainment. There’s not a single character in “The Answer Man” that feels the least bit realistic. There’s not a single line of dialogue that sounds as if it was spontaneously spoken, instead of typed by a screenwriter with a slick Thesaurus. But most importantly, the film doesn’t work because its characters are simply undeserving of the required audience empathy. It’s impossible to care about anyone on the screen, or anything that happens to them.

Blu-Ray Rating: 2.0/5.0

So why is this film a mediocre dud rather than a catastrophic failure? Because it is populated by gifted actors who try to inject the contrived material with vibrant life. Jeff Daniels is one of the most appealing actors in modern cinema, »

4 November 2009 11:49 PM, PST | TVStar | See recent TVStar news »

Halloween isn't over until the last candy bar is eaten! So in the spirit of Halloween we turn our attention to last week's episode of the Ellen DeGeneres Show (TV). The always funny and silly Ellen had a special treat for all of her guests last week and each one of them had a classic reaction to the funny lady. Find out what made David Spade leave the room, Taylor Swift fall to the floor, and Lauren Grahman laugh out loud. Everyone is entitled to a good scare once in a while, don't you think? Well Ellen thought so when she booked her good friend Taylor Swift for her show last week. Remember a few months back, Swift pulled a silly prank on her fans by dressing up as Kiss at a concert? Well Ellen thought it was time for payback; watch to see what made Taylor Swift fall to the floor. »

Ellen DeGeneres Pulls A Halloween Prank On Taylor Swift

2 November 2009 8:50 AM, PST | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

Ellen DeGeneres spent most of the month of October pranking staffers and celebs on her show, so when Taylor Swift stopped by last Thursday (October 29), she probably should have been expecting something. But based on video evidence, the country star was caught completely off guard by the newest "American Idol" judge.

Swift followed in the footsteps of Katie Couric, Mario Lopez, Lauren Graham and David Spade, who all got a little scare from Ellen. DeGeneres showed the audience Swift's prank on Friday's episode of the show, and in the grand scheme of everyone who got pranked, Taylor definitely was the biggest scaredy cat.

The pranks all followed the same sort of formula: Ellen sent stars off to a green room where she told them there was a picture of the pair hanging up in the bathroom. Just as the celeb walked into the bathroom, Ellen popped out from behind a »

Gilmore Girls Creator Inks Deal with HBO

21 October 2009 11:44 PM, PDT | TVStar | See recent TVStar news »

Before Gilmore Girls, rapid fire banter did not exist. The mother-daughter team of Rory and Lorelai created a new trend and while on air did something remarkable to households worldwide. Gilmore Girls made mothers cool, and it allowed mother-daughter teams to bond every week over the antics of the silly and adorable Rory and Lorelai. Oh, how we miss the days of the Gilmore Girls, but wait, have you heard the buzz about a new show by Amy Sherman-Palladino? Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) and Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) gave us seven great years of fast talking mother-daughter hijinks. Never had a show highlighted the beautiful and complex relationship between mother and daughter in the way Gilmore Girls did. At times the relationship was messy, leading the duo to fight, at times the unbreakable bond was extremely moving, but more often than anything else, we witnessed four generations of the Gilmores »

Please, Give These Stars a New Show!

21 October 2009 6:07 PM, PDT | Getback - TV | See recent Getback - TV news »

We're not ashamed to admit that we haven't been able to fill the hole in our hearts that was ripped open when "The Gilmore Girls" was canceled in 2007. We miss the snappy banter between Lorelai and Rory, the wacky locals of Stars Hollow, and all the spot-on pop culture references. But most of all, we miss Lauren Graham and her soul-tugging performance as the mom who loved her daughter/best friend more than anything in the world. No show since has been able to fill the void.

Every season we hang our hopes on a new series, hoping that it might help ease the pain. This year, we thought that the upcoming TV version of Ron Howard's film "Parenthood" might do the trick. But then the show was put on hold when actress Maura Tierney had to drop out for health reasons. We were apprehensive when we learned that »

Sorry, Gilmore Girl Fans

In her first interview since taking over Maura Tierney's role in Parenthood, Lauren Graham told Michael Ausiello that fans shouldn't expect her new character to have many Gilmore Girl similarities: "She's a single mom, yes, but I don't think the tone of the show is the same. The sound of Gilmore Girls, that voice, is so unique to Amy [Sherman-Palladino]. It's a grown-up show, too. It doesn't have some of the more whimsical elements of [Gilmore Girls]. It's more realistic." Harsh words for Stars Hollow. And what about that mythic cinematic reunion of Lorelai and Luke? Graham teased Gilmore superfan Ausiello with this mock pronouncement: "[It's] in the can. It's coming soon to a theater near you." [EW] »

HBO picks up a series from the creator of "Gilmore Girls"

16 October 2009 9:00 AM, PDT | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

As happy as I am that Lauren Graham is coming back to series television, I can’t help wishing she’d waited just a bit longer to sign the Parenthood contract.

Why? Because HBO announced Tuesday that Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino will write and executive produce a new dramedy for the cable network.

The series is about three adult sisters, all writers, sharing an apartment in the upper east side of NYC. Their domineering mother is a “literary lioness” who dotes on their ne’er-do-well brother. According to Sherman-Palladino, “It’s the story of love, hate, family — and finding the perfect opening line.”

To capture the spirit of anticipation that I have for this series, you have to ignore Sherman-Palladino’s most recent effort, The Return of Jezebel James, and relive the glory days of Gilmore Girls via this clip from “Donna Reed Night” (after the very loud commercial »
