Last night, producers Malek Akkad and Andy Gould were joined by the lovely ladies of Halloween II and Tyler Mane for a special screening of the Rob Zombie film in Thousand Oaks. During a Q&A, Gould and Akkad was pressed for details on the recently announced Halloween 3D . The former repeated what was said already: Zombie would not be back for a third round. Akkad, however, jokingly reminded him that the director said he wouldn't return for a sequel after the first film. "There will most likely be a '3,'" Akkad told the audience. "We're trying to figure something out." I caught up to Akkad outside the theater moments later to ask about the weekend news break that positioned Patrick Lussier ( My Bloody Valentine 3D ) as the prime contender for the »

Rob Zombie, whose "Halloween II" opened yesterday, will write, direct and produce a remake of the 1958 horror classic "The Blob", which starred Steve McQueen. In the original, an object from space crashes into a field, containing a red blob-like substance that absorbs the humans it contacts and grows exponentially. "My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing -- that's the first thing I want to change," Zombie told the trade. "That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now." Zombie will produce with Genre Co.'s Richard Saperstein and Brian Witten; original "Blob" producer Jack H. Harris; and Judith Parker Harris of Worldwide Entertainment Corp. and Andy Gould. On a cold night in Georgia, a dilapidated shack stood, paper thin, almost rocking faintly with every gust of wind amid a rolling field and set against a thick row of trees. In the distance came a low rumble and through the night sky cut a search light, hitting the ground with frantic purpose.
Ethereal pockets of fog work against them, but the house can shrink from sight no longer. Police have formed a careful ring around the location, close enough to spot a fleeing suspect but far enough away to make one believe whatever lurks within those walls must be of a monstrous nature. In contrast to the red glow of police lights and uneasy tone of the scene, we see a limousine which arrives to deliver a certain Doctor Samuel Loomis into the grasp of his oldest charge, Michael Myers. When these two meet, all hell will most certainly break loose. »
