SNL: Who makes a better Hoda?

15 November 2009 1:08 PM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Last night, SNL newbie Jenny Slate was put in the unenviable position of picking up a character created by Michaela Watkins, a one-season castmember who was let go earlier this year. Watkins had carved out a niche for herself on the show with a spot-on impersonation of Today show anchor Hoda Kotb—the straight woman to Kristen Wiig's boozy, bawdy Kathie Lee Gifford. But the sketch was revived yesterday with Slate in the role, a slightly jarring change to those of us accustomed to seeing Watkins in the chair next to Wiig. My colleague Ken Tucker thought the sketch »

15 November 2009 6:05 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

The Black Eyed Peas were the musical guest on Saturday Night Live, with host January Jones, and they also appeared in an early sketch skewering the 4th hour of "Today" with Kathie Lee Gifford. In the last 30 seconds of the skit below, the Peas, who were supposed to be guests on the "Today" show, got sick of waiting and were angered by a drunken Kathie Lee (Kristen Wiig) singing. Fergie comes out and punches her, Taboo takes of his shoe to hit her, and best of all Apl.de.ap displays some professional wrestling moves with flying elbow drops. A week after Halloween, Taylor Swift threw on a Kate Gosselin wig to play the mother of eight on "Saturday Night Live."

Swift, as Gosselin, was the guest host on "The View" and was flattered by Elisabeth Hasselbeck's (played by Kristen Wiig) comments about her spiky bob hairstyle.

Ann Curry is so... Ann Curry-ish

15 October 2009 6:24 PM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

NBC just sent me a series of photos showing the interviews that will be conducted during the network's "A Woman's Nation" series. As part of the series, NBC, CNBC and MSNBC personalities will interview each other about "the state of women in American life," as the accompanying press release has stated.

In most of the pics, the pairs -- Andrea Mitchell/Rachel Maddow, Kathie Lee Gifford/Jenna Bush Hager, Mika Brzezinski/Hoda Kotb, Natalie Morales/Suze Orman -- sit on the comfy chairs, legs crossed. As you can see from the pic above, Ann Curry, who's paired up with Meredith Vieira, wants to be different: shoes off, feet tucked under her rear end. She's really into this conversation, know what I mean? She's listening. She's comfortable.

It's so Ann Curry, isn't it?

Lil Mama said she realized Jay-z wasn't feeling her stage crashing at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. Well, guess who else wasn't feeling that stage invasion? Alicia Keys. Keys appeared on the "Today" show on Wednesday (September 16), and when hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb asked about Mama, Keys initially declined to comment.

"I'd rather not speak about it," she said. "The performance was so phenomenal, it doesn't matter about anything else."

However, later in the interview the hosting duo coaxed a comment from Keys.

"We can appreciate her being overwhelmed and inspired," Keys said, "but we would have appreciated it if she would have did it from her seat."

Kathy Griffin Tells "Today" Hosts She Wants Her New Book To Outsell The Bible

9 September 2009 9:59 AM, PDT | icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news »

Kathy Griffin is on a promotional tour for her new book in stores now and she's saying she wants it to outsell the Bible as the best-selling book ever. She visited the "Today Show" with hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb and told them why her book, "Official Book Club Selection," is similar to the Bible in an effort to score some book sales.

"I would like this book to outsell the Bible," said the self-proclaimed "authoress." "Let me tell you what this book has that the Bible doesn't: it has plastic surgery photos, which the Bible doesn't... it has some naughty psalms."

Griffin, who earned a four-star review from Cns, reveals that the book also delves into more serious territory for the popular comedian. "I talk about my brother, I talk about my failed marriage, I talk about my botched lipo, and there's funny stories, but there's a little of both, »

Michaela Watkins and Casey Wilson off SNL

7 September 2009 10:33 AM, PDT | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

Two funny women are off Saturday Night Live. SNL fired Michaela Watkins and Casey Wilson, and various bloggers who follow TV closely say the two no longer are listed cast and that SNL chieftain Lorne Michaels hired Jenny Slate and Nasim Pedrad as replacements. "Saturday Night Live" begins its 35th season on September 26. Entertainment Weekly reports that Watkins, who turned out impersonations of Barbara Walters and Kathie Lee Gifford's suffering "Today" show co-host Hoda Kotb, was "shocked" by the firing. "I don't think anyone knows what Lorne Michaels was thinking," Watkins told EW. Variety reports that "SNL" player Darrell Hammond is still negotiating salary for a return to the show. Casey Wilson is scheduled to perform Sept. »

Hoda and Kathie Lee want Bob to e-mail them his dirty secret

2 September 2009 3:01 PM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Loyal TV Squad readers will recall that Bob wrote a post yesterday that criticized the ever-annoying Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford for the lame "dirty secrets" they gave during the lighter-than-air fourth hour of Today that morning (they originally talked about "bad habits," which turned into a talk about "dirty secrets"). For those who care: Hoda doesn't wash her hair that often and Kathie Lee doesn't floss as much as she should. I know: scandalous, right?

Anyway, at the beginning of their first segment this morning, the hosts called Bob and TV Squad out on his post -- initially they said he "wrote in," as if Bob's sitting at his computer writing angry e-mails to the Today show staff -- and invited him to e-mail them his dirty secret:

Kathie Lee and Hoda reveal their dirty little secrets

1 September 2009 12:28 PM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Somehow, I have become addicted to the last hour of Today. I don't think that the show should be four hours long. Not at all. But I have become fascinated by... well, whatever comes out of the mouths of Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb. It could be crazy, it could be outlandish, it could even make you roll your eyes. But it's probably not going to be boring.

This morning the two girls were asked what their "dirty little secrets" are. Oh, I thought this would be good. Kathie Lee would say something about some sexcapade she had in the '70s and Hoda would talk about her collection of lint or something just as outrageous. So what did they reveal as their dirty little secrets?Continue reading Kathie Lee and Hoda reveal their dirty little secrets
