Duff Wows Writers With Film Extremes

25 May 2008 6:09 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

The men behind Hilary Duff's new movie War Inc. felt sure they'd have to rewrite some scenes when the squeaky-clean actress landed the lead - because they'd be too crude for her.

But the game actress/pop star shocked them by going through with the risque scenarios - which included performing mock fellatio on a fuel pump and dropping a live scorpion down her pants.

Writers Jeremy Pisker and Mark Leyner say, "We wrote a scene where her character gives a blow job to a gas nozzle, and when we got Hilary to do the movie, we thought, 'Well, we've got to rewrite that.' But she did it."

And co-star John Cusack admits her fake fellatio was better than the one on paper: "She did it in a more sly way. She licked it (the nozzle) like an ice-cream cone. She did better than the script."

When it came to the scorpion scene, Duff, who plays a wildchild Eastern European pop star in the film, had nothing to lose.

She explains, "I had done so much for this film by then, I couldn't really say no."

But Duff admits she was a little concerned her tough-talking, wild character would upset her fans: "I have to have this foul mouth, be this rude and crude girl who tries to be sexy but she's so young and kind of vulgar."

Opening This Week

19 May 2008 2:51 AM, PDT | From ifc.com | See recent IFC news

By Neil Pedley

It's a battle of filmmaking titans this week, the kind of event that comes around once in a lifetime . Steven Spielberg and Uwe Boll will duke it out at the multiplexes. (Forgive us, but that might've been our only opportunity to ever get to put those two names in the same sentence.)

"The Children of Huang Shi"

Set during the Japanese occupation of China during the 1930s, this sweeping historical epic comes from Roger Spottiswoode, the director behind both "Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot" and the narrative remake of "Shake Hands with the Devil." The first official co-production between Australia and China, the film tells the true story of Australian nurse (Radha Mitchell), who with the aid of a British journalist (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), escorts 60 orphaned children 700 miles through the Liu Pan Shan Mountains to evade Japanese secret police. "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" co-stars Michelle Yeoh

Duff: 'I put a scorpion down my pants'

18 May 2008 6:50 AM, PDT | From Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news

Hilary Duff has admitted that she put a live scorpion down her pants for her latest film role.

The Lizzie McGuire star said that she was forced to shoot the "terrifying" scenes in War, Inc several times because the creature wouldn't stay still.

"It was so scary," she told La Confidential. "I grew up in Texas, and we had plenty of scorpions, but I never had to put one down my pants before.

"And my pants weren’t that baggy, so I couldn’t get any space. I did it a couple times with it . . .

Cusack Was Surprised By 'Gifted' Duff

15 May 2008 12:10 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

John Cusack was blown away by Hillary Duff's performance in their new movie War, Inc., and considers her brave for risking her child-friendly pop star status.

Duff ditched her clean-cut image to play a trashy Middle Eastern pop singer in the Cusack-directed war satire, which also stars Joan Cusack, Marisa Tomei and Sir Ben Kingsley.

And the actor/director admits he was shocked by her "wonderful" performance.

Cusack says, "We didn't know her. We knew she wanted to do the movie, which takes a lot of courage for a young girl who's already got huge fan base, who's a big pop star.

"I don't think any of us knew she would be quite as gifted, as intelligent as she is. Not only did she hold her, I think she's every bit as charismatic and wonderful as those other three actors."

Duff Ditches 'Good Girl' Label In New Movie

28 April 2008 9:06 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Hilary Duff is hoping her role in new movie War, Inc. will kill her good-girl image once and for all.

The 20-year-old has wrestled with the label since rising to fame as a clean-cut teen pop star.

She recently revealed her desire to be recognised as an adult - and went to great lengths in the movie to do so.

Duff travelled unaccompanied to Bulgaria to film the movie with co-stars John Cusack, Sir Ben Kingsley and Marisa Tomei, dying her trademark blonde locks for a darker hairdo to play onscreen temptress Yonica.

She says, "I got to play a character far away from who I am in my real life.

"I got to be a little bit of a bad girl for a change."

War Inc. premieres on Monday at New York's Tribeca Film Festival.
