Married to the film-maker Henri-Georges Clouzot, Vera was directed by her husband in her first film the 1953 thriller Le salaire de la peur (1953), in which she appeared alongside Charles Vanel and Yves Montand. In a short film career Clouzot only performed in films directed by Henri-Georges, the most famous of which was undoubtedly the 1955 thriller Les diaboliques (1955). Vera died suddenly of a heart attack in 1960 at the age of 47.

Daughter of one of Brazil's most notorious political figures, Gilberto Amado (1887-1969), congressman, writer, journalist and lawyer, ex-President of the United Nations' International Law Committee, and who, in 1915, shot to death fellow writer and poet Aníbal Teóphilo in an official ceremony at the Jornal do Commercio for disagreeing with his opinions on literature (Amado was acquitted).
She died of a sudden heart attack, as did her character in her most famous film "Les Diaboliques".
She did her own stunts in "Le Salaire de la Peur", which included getting on a moving truck and being pushed away to the ground.
