Former Casualty actress Sarah Manners has signed up to star in The Bill. Manners, who played Bex Reynolds in the BBC One hospital drama, will join the cast as area car driver Kirsty Knight from February. Her character will be involved in a storyline alongside Sgt Callum Stone (Sam Callis). "Kirsty is a lively addition to the team. She has an irreverent sense of humour and a love of the adrenaline-fuelled side of the job," producer Tim Key told (more) »

The Bill producers have splashed out a six-figure sum on a dramatic car crash stunt, a report claims. A future episode of the ITV1 police drama sees a vehicle exploding into flames following a chase involving its driver and Sun Hill cops. Following the crash, Sgt Callum Stone (Sam Callis) and PC Nate Roberts (Ben Richards) battle against the clock to rescue the trapped motorist. ITV police drama The Bill makes its move to a 9pm post-watershed timeslot on Thursday evening and ahead of transmission, here's a clip from the first episode. As Sergeant Stone (Sam Callis) and PC Ben Gayle (Micah Balfour) patrol the streets of London, they receive a call to an incident where teenager Danny Sissoulu (Tunji Lucas) has been beaten to a pulp.
