Parker And Broderick Move To Bigger Brooklyn Home

10 July 2009 9:16 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are making room for their new twins, by moving to a bigger house in the New York borough of Brooklyn.

According to reports, the couple bought a townhouse beside the borough's leafy Prospect Park for $8.45 million (GBP5.6 million) back in December - and is preparing to move in with son James Wilkie and surrogate-born twins Tabitha and Marion, who they welcomed in June.

The move from Manhattan's trendy West Village will be a controversial one for fans of Parker's TV show Sex and the City - the actress' character Carrie Bradshaw famously insisted on residing in the centre of New York and scolded a friend who swapped Manhattan for Brooklyn.

The family-of-five won't be the first celebrities to live in the Victorian townhouse - it was previously owned by acting couple Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly.

Dakota Fanning Stuck With Another Bad Dad

8 July 2009 7:20 AM, PDT | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

We all know it's the women-- Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning, et al.-- who will get the meatiest roles in The Runaways, the biopic about the serious bad-asses who formed the first all-girl punk band in the 70s. But that isn't keeping the menfolk for singing up for roles. Brett Cullen, a.k.a. Goodwin on Lost and Wayne Sutry on Damages, has just joined to play the alcoholic, abusive father of band member Cherie Currie (Fanning), according to THR. No telling how big the role will be, though I imagine the film will focus more on the band's life together rather than their pasts. And what is it with Dakota Fanning completely unable to get a decent dad? Paul Bettany beat her up in Secret Life of Bees, David Morse was her good-for-nothing pop in Hounddog, and John Hodgman was unable to save her from evil Spider-Mom in Coraline.

Creation Trailer Starring Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly

30 June 2009 8:08 AM, PDT | From FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news

While a biopic about Charles Darwin is probably not destined to be the most riveting thing ever committed to celluloid, it seems inevitable that it will spark at least a little bit of controversy. The man's research forms the basis of modern evolutionary theory, and is still contested by many religious groups (although not so much by scientists). That said, it's a bit strange how bland and unassuming the trailer for Creation actually is. Starring Paul Bettany as Darwin and Jennifer Connelly as Darwin's wife Emma, the movie supposedly explores the Darwin's struggle over his own theories and the fact that they conflict with his wife's religious views. It almost seems like the movie will try to explain how both points of view can co-exist (further supported by the accompanying logo for Mel Gibson's distribution company Icon Films). Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but I think there

[DVD Review] Inkheart

30 June 2009 6:05 AM, PDT | From JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news

Of the entire imagined-shit-coming-to-life-and-causing-chaos sub genre that has bombarded the family friendly calendar slots in the last year or so (Bedtime Stories, Night At The Museum, Imagine That) Inkheart is certainly the best. But honestly that’s not saying much. Perhaps better to say it has the most ambition because easily digestible escapism for grandma and all the kids it most certainly isn’t.

About fifteen minutes in, after Brendan Fraser’s antique book dealer Mo (about as convincing as Meg Ryan as a helicopter pilot) has dragged her around yet another dusty store, pocketed a tome of apparent rarity, and been accosted by a weird, scarred man with fire coming out of his hands, daughter Meggie (Bennett) turns to her dad and demands to be told what the hell is going on. It’s a feeling you’ll most definitely share, as it’s a question that sadly persists

Blu-Ray Review: Brendan Fraser’s Dull ‘Inkheart’ Fails to Come to Life

24 June 2009 5:00 AM, PDT | From HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news

Chicago – Iain Softley’s “Inkheart” is about a man who can literally read characters into existence. They pop off the page and into reality. Sadly, the film that tells his story is shockingly dull and inert, a movie that is about stimulating a young reader’s imagination but is too boring to keep their attention.

Blu-Ray Rating: 2.0/5.0 I have no doubt that Cornelia Funke’s book on which the film “Inkheart” is based is an entertaining, young-adult read. But the drive for every studio to find the next Harry Potter-esque franchise has led to a few adaptations that probably should have stayed on the printed page. What can be left to a reader’s vivid imagination doesn’t always translate to the reality of cinema.

Inkheart was released on Blu-Ray on June 23rd, 2009.

Review: 'Inkheart' on DVD

22 June 2009 6:56 AM, PDT | From Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news

After its success with The Lord of the Rings, New Line wisely began scouring the bookshelves for other properties that could feed the appetite of a growing public to whom fantasy was no longer reserved for the geeks.  They snatched up several including Cornelia Funke’s German novel, which first saw print in fall 2003.  Inkheart is a well-received novel, first in a trilogy naturally, about a family whose father was a “silvertongue”, who by reading aloud could bring the written word to life.

New Line grabbed the rights and shot the film in fairly quick order but the hoped for December 2007 release got delayed and then the Writers’ Strike forced them to juggle their schedule and then Warner Bros. gobbled up New Line and before you knew it, Inkheart was quietly released in January. And here we are in June with an equally quiet video release, coming Tuesday.

Inkheart – DVD

21 June 2009 1:07 PM, PDT | From The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news

Inkheart

Directed by: Iain Softley

Cast: Brendan Fraser, Paul Bettany, Helen Mirren, Andy Serkis

Running Time: 1 hr 45 mins

Rating: PG

Plot: Mo Folchart (Fraser) is a “silvertongue” – someone who can bring the words of books to life by reading them out loud. Ten years ago, he lost his wife when he read from fantasy novel Inkheart, and is now trying to retrieve her with the help of his daughter (Bennett) and various characters from the book. An adaptation of the book of the same title written by Cornelia Funke.

Who’s It For? Anyone in elementary school, but anyone else should have problems with the performances and lack of explained plot.

Movie: So, Mo is a silvertongue, yet doesn’t it seem like they’re a dime a dozen? Speaking of dime a dozen, Fraser completely mails in this performance, it never once seems like he cares about being a father or hero.

Twilight star Cam Gigandet talks about 'Priest,' Paul Bettany (video)

17 June 2009 8:56 PM, PDT | From Twilight Examiner | See recent Twilight Examiner news

Twilight star Cam Gigandet recently discussed his up-coming film Priest with MTV, where he discusses common misconceptions about the film and his co-star Paul Bettany. "It's awesome," says Gigandet about his up-coming film Priest. "It's not the case," says Gigandet about the common "mis-conception" that he was playing a vampire in the film. The film is more a good versus evil, he says. "Paul Bettany is great, and I can't wait to start," says he about working with his up-coming Priest co-star...

This fascinating blog from Alexx Henry Photography details the process of making a highly impressive “living” movie poster for of all things, a Hallmark movie called “Mrs. Washington Goes To Smith”. This is an exciting design concept you can expect to see become more and more popular. Think of them as highly advanced animated Gifs, the aim is to make you think you are looking at a still image. They are the future of online advertising and design. Direct links to the finished product: 1, 2, 3.

The guys over at Chud report that Marcus Nispel has replaced Brett Ratner to direct the planned “Conan the Barbarian” remake. Nispel has plenty of remake experience having directed both “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)” and “Friday The 13th (2009)”. Next question: Who will play Conan?

The very awesome Bloody Disgusting have a scoop on who is being lined up to direct the Robert Rodriguez produced “Predator” remake “Predators”…. Neil Marshall.

Religious apocalypse flick Legion begins shooting! Here's 10 set pics to prove it

16 June 2009 10:20 AM, PDT | From QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news

Last month we brought you a little background on Scott Charles Stewart's directorial debut, Legion, which sounded a lot like The Mist meets Constantine.

Starring Dennis Quaid, Paul Bettany, Tyrese Gibson, Kate Walsh, Kevin Durand and Lucas Black, the film tells the story of "a terrifying biblical apocalypse" which descends upon the world. A group of strangers, stranded in a remote truck stop diner in the Southwest, unwittingly become humanity's last line of defense when they discover the diner's young waitress is pregnant with the messiah.

Its sounds like an amazing project so we're happy that it's finally started filming. The good people of io9 have even managed to track down some behind the scenes pics for us to share, so check them out after the break. No actors make an appearance but I must say there's some decent car-nage. I'm also curious about the significance of the crazy

Twilight star Cam Gigandet prefers Priest film script to original comic

15 June 2009 1:43 PM, PDT | From The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news

Cam Gigandet is definitely sinking his teeth into the horror genre.

Following a stint as Kevin Volchok on The O.C. and a role in action flick Never Back Down, the 26-year-old has appeared as tracker vampire James in Twilight, for which he won an MTV Movie Award for best fight.

He is also in upcoming psychological thriller The Roommate, in which Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester plays a college freshman who develops a dangerous obsession.

And, as I reported earlier, he was recently cast in the Screen Gems adaptation of supernatural comic book Priest, with the film due for release on August 13, 2010.

Gigandet has now clarified his role in Priest, given an update on when filming will start, what its creatures will be like and how it differs from the original comic.

In Priest, based on a Korean comic book, Gigandet plays a sheriff called Coburn.

Gigandet updates on Priest role

15 June 2009 12:32 PM, PDT | From Fangoria.com | See recent Fangoria news

Last week, word hit that Twilight actor Cam Gigandet had joined The Da Vinci Code's Paul Bettany in the live-action version of Tokyopop's Priest.

While true, seems the details of his character were just a little bit off.

We last reported that Gigandet's character was "part vampire", picking up on details from The Hollywood Reporter, while others stated that he'd be a full-blown bloodsucker.

In a new interview with MTV's Splash Page, the actor states “I think there was some miscommunication that I was a vampire... but that’s not the case. I’m not a vampire.”

Click here for the full interview, and make that one less set of artificial fangs on set when Priest starts rolling later this year.

Priest is currently slated for an August, 2010 release.

Cam Gigandet Not Actually Playing Another Vampire

15 June 2009 12:10 PM, PDT | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

When we reported last week that Cam Gigandet would be playing a vampire in the adaptation of the TokyoPop graphic novel seriesPriest, the story seemed like a pretty simple twist on John Ford's The Searchers, substituting vampires for Native Americans. Boy was I wrong about that-- the Wikipedia entry for the series has given me a massive headache. And now it looks like Gigandet's character isn't even a vampire, disappointing legions of Twilight fans. Talking to MTV, Gigandet said the vampire rumors were a bit exaggerated. .I think there was some miscommunication that I was a vampire but that.s not the case. I.m not a vampire.. Instead, he says, "There are vampire-esque creatures in the movie, but it.s really a battle between good and evil. Exclusive: ‘Twilight’ Star Cam Gigandet Corrects Earlier Report — Won’t Play A Vampire In ‘Priest’

15 June 2009 9:55 AM, PDT | From MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news

Last week, reports surfaced that “Twilight” star Cam Gigandet would be playing a vampire on screen again in a live-action adaptation of “Priest,” a popular manga series published by TokyoPop.

But hold the phone, “Twilight” fans, it appears that tales of his blood-sucking role have been greatly exaggerated. During a press event for his upcoming film “The Roommate,” the actor said there’s been a slight misunderstanding when it comes to his “Priest” character.

“I think there was some miscommunication that I was a vampire,” Gigandet told MTV News, “but that’s not the case. I’m not a vampire.”

The original report had Gigandet pegged to play a half-vampire sheriff who teams with co-star Paul Bettany’s character, a priest, on a journey across a wasteland ravaged by years of battles between humans and vampires.

“There are vampire-esque creatures in the movie, but it’s really a battle between god and evil,

Trailer Finally Released For Creation

15 June 2009 6:54 AM, PDT | From FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news

The official trailer has now been released for Creation, starring Paul Bettany and Academy Award winner Jennifer Connelly — and it’s about time!

Based on the book Annie’s Box by Randal Keynes (Darwin’s Great Grandson), Creation is the story of Charles Darwin and the single most explosive idea in history. Darwin’s great, still controversial, book The Origin of Species which depicts nature as a battleground and an entirely natural phenomena — leading many to question the validy of such a document in such a God-fearing time.

Creation is directed by Jon Amiel and hits UK theatres on 25th September 2009. Take a look at the trailer below, let me know if you think it’s as good as I do:
