Intrada Records has just released the original recordings of North's unused score to 2001 conducted by North's orchestrator & friend Henry Brant. A fascinating listening experience, it is, in my opinion, superior to the Jerry Goldsmith recording of a few years ago. Having collaborated frequently with Alex North, Brant's reading has an edge to it making it sound more Northian than Goldsmith's more polished performance. I was given a video of the film with North's music in it & can see how Alex North humanized Kubrick's clinical approach. This CD may be obtained from Screen Archives Entertainment. . .a fine company which gives excellent service.
