In the end credits to the William Lustig directed film Uncle Sam from 1997, Jay Chattaway is mentioned in the Special Thanks. Lustig and Chattaway have previously worked together on such films as Maniac Cop and others

He has written many award-winning scores for the later Star Trek television series. However his most enduring composition is a simple flute melody written for the episode "The Inner Light" (1992) of the series "Star Trek: The Next Generation". It has since been arranged for orchestra, other instruments and electronic remix. Original lyrics for this melody have also been written by several poets.

Received both his music degrees from West Virginia University, 28 years apart (Bachelor's in 1968 and Master's in 1996).
