The players: Director: Brian Robbins, Writers: Rob Greenberg and Bill Corbett, Cast: Eddie Murphy, Elizabeth Banks and Gabrielle Union
Facts of interest: Brian Robbins also directed "Norbit."
The plot: A crew of aliens travel to Earth to find a way to save their planet.
Our quick thoughts: Unless you got a bunch of time and money to waste this weekend, I highly suggest you stay as far away as possible from “Meet Dave,” a boring 90-minute comedy filled with lame jokes, embarrassing physical comedy and bad acting. Granted, it’s certainly not the worst we’ve seen from Eddie Murphy over the past years, but the film’s obvious lack of laughs and surprises still makes it almost unbearable to watch.

Rated PG
Say this much for Meet Dave: At least it's not culturally offensive like The Love Guru. And with two - count 'em, two - funny lines, it has one more laugh than The Love Guru, as well.
This movie is still absolute garbage, from the initial concept to the dialogue, to Eddie Murphy's ridiculous accent-y accent, to the visual effects. Murphy plays Captain Kirk from another planet, except his Uss Enterprise is actually just a human sized version of the captain himself. See, people are tiny on the captain's planet, and they need Earth's salt water to survive.
Seems like a bad reason to fly all this way, but whatever.
So from inside the lifelike robot version of Eddie Murphy, the real and tiny Eddie Murphy tries to retrieve an

Thanks to the folks at Vulture we learn that Eddie Murphy not only didn't show up for the premiere of Meet Dave, his new film opening this weekend (yeah, who knew?), but he actually cancelled a mere 90 minutes before arrival. How do they know? Well, a little publicist birdie made an anonymous post at DataLounge that went a little something like this... And why he's so hated in Hollywood. It's 4:45pm, his "Meet Dave" premiere - which he is the one and only star - is an hour and a half away. And he Just Cancelled. Yep, all that time, money, work by everyone and dickhead Eddie just informed us he decided he's not going to show up. To his own premiere. To promote his own movie. This is why he lost for Dreamgirls. This is why Hollywood loves to see him fail. Cause even by Hollywood standards, he's an asshole among assholes.

Actress Gabrielle Union has vowed to put motherhood to one side for a few years - because she's not responsible enough to play the demanding role of mother.
The 35-year-old star ended her five-year-long marriage to American football star Chris Howard in 2006.
And Union admits the couple never conceived partly because she feared taking on adult responsibilities.
She says, "Right now, I don't have the same urges as other women when they see a baby. When I see children, I see responsibilities, which I don't think I'm quite ready for. I feel the same about puppies. They're cute for a second, but there's a lot of responsibility involved."

Derek Jeter plays the field during baseball games – not during his off time. "I've hung out and dated people I've never even met before," the Yankee slugger tells Sports Illustrated, referring to reports of his ladies man status. Instead, the newly named Gillette spokesman, records his favorite TV shows: American Idol and Entourage, and calls Drama his favorite character from the latter. But it always comes back to interest in his gal pals, so he brushes off reports that he's gotten cozy with Friday Night Lights actress Minka Kelly. And what about Idol Carrie Underwood? "Carrie Underwood's good. She could sing,

Former Law + Order star Angie Harmon is still struggling to believe she bared all for a magazine - because she's such a prude in real life.
The actress joined Gabrielle Union, Ana Ortiz and singer Jill Scott for Allure magazine's annual naked spread, and she admits she had more problems disrobing than her fellow celebrities.
Harmon says, "The hardest part was when the robe came off and I was like, 'And now I'm... naked.' You wonder if they can see your Caesarian scar."
Harmon also reveals she has skinny-dipping photos she took on holiday with her husband that she can't bear to get developed because she fears what photo lab assistants will see.
She explains, "We were on a private beach in Bora Bora and we took one picture of our heads under the water, but we can never develop the film because we don't know what else is showing."
Union, Harmon's fellow 'stripper' for the tasteful new spread, admits she worked hard to make sure she looked great for the photo session.
She explains, "I've always been athletic, but I stepped it up for this. I ran up and down stadium stairs and went hiking. I'm cool with being naked, but I wanted to push myself."

Angie Harmon once skinny-dipped with her husband, Jason Sehorn, on a private beach in Bora Bora. But now the Women's Murder Club star is stripping down in front of the entire world. Harmon is one of five celebs – including Gabrielle Union, Jill Scott, Zoe McLellan and Ana Ortiz – who shed their clothes in Allure's May issue. And Harmon says the photo shoot isn't about selling sex, "It's about showing the female body in a positive, beautiful way." And singer-actress Jill Scott agrees, telling the magazine she hopes her pictorial inspires other women. "Here I am, naked in a magazine at size 16 ... We are all beautiful,

Actress Gabrielle Union is suing two men for invasion of privacy, after they posted a fake job advertisement looking for an assistant for the star.
The two defendants, from Georgia, are alleged to have advertised the job of executive assistant on listings website Craigslist.com, claiming they were acting on Union's behalf.
But the Bad Boys 2 beauty claims she doesn't know the defendants, Calvin High and Steve Raymond, and was unaware of their actions.
In legal papers obtained by website Tmz.com, the lawsuit claims High and Raymond subjected Union to "embarrassment and humiliation" by putting out the advert for a vacancy that doesn't exist.
The suit, which was filed in a Georgia district court on Friday, also names 'John Does 1-10' alongside High and Raymond, because Union's lawyers Locke Lord Bissell + Liddell, Llc, claim the acts were committed "in conjunction with and/or with the help of several other individuals who are unknown... at this time".
They go on to state: "At least one individual responded to the advertisement for the position... and subsequently contacted Ms. Union directly inquiring about the advertisement."
Union claims to have suffered "severe emotional distress" as a result of the bogus advert, and is seeking damages for the hoax.

In April, dozens of scripted shows will return to the broadcast networks. Thank goodness! Though I've already posted details on the returns of "The Office" (here and here) "30 Rock," "Ugly Betty" and "House," I thought I'd collect all the information I have in one place.
First, here's a chronological list of return dates (to see the return dates sorted by network, go here).
Second, for those who want more than just return dates, I've got details on what will happen on many shows, in addition to the ones mentioned above, on the second half of this item.
If you don’t spot a favorite show on either list, by the way, be aware that some programs aren’t returning until fall, and the fate of several others has not been officially announced yet. There's more info on what's returning in the fall here.
Here are the return dates of scripted

There won’t be any major stuntcasting when ABC’s “Ugly Betty” returns April 24. It’s been rumored that “Project Runway” winner Christian Siriano might make an appearance on the Thursday dramedy, but ABC is not confirming that cameo at present.
Anyway, the show will get back to basics and focus on the core characters when Betty Suarez and her family and co-workers return.
As for “Grey’s Anatomy,” its first episode back on April 24 is titled “Where the Wild Things Are.” Make of that what you will.
There are more details on the returns of “Grey’s” and “Ugly Betty” below.
[Spoilers below. Exit if you don't want to see them.]
“Ugly Betty’s” first episode back is called “24 Candles,” and it does hark back a bit to the classic John Hughes film “Sixteen Candles.”
In the episode, Betty dreams of the perfect birthday party, complete with a horse and carriage and her boyfriend Henry (Christopher Gorham) as her knight in shining armor.
