On Monday last week, the fifth season of Boston Public hit the airwaves with “Smoke Signals,” which featured Alan teaming up with Denny's former flame Bethany to try a case against a tobacco comapny. Tonight, the David E. Kelly series returns with Episode 5.2 entitled “Guardians and Keepers.”
Tonight on Boston Legal, the courtroom battles ensue as Alan sues the drug companies after a client asks for his help, given that he has been taking 42 different medications daily. Katie takes a case involving a young woman who claims that she was raped by a guard when she was sent to a private drug treatment center. Meanwhile, Carl works on a case with Shirley’s granddaughter.
In other Boston Legal news, Ew reports that Julie Bowen will be coming back to Crane, Poole & Schmidt some time in November. Bowen made her last pre-hiatus appearance in May 2007, when she decided to take the

Oprah wowed in red as she opened the show after the cool What's my line? clip but unfortunately following her was the reality hosts talking about nothing. It was almost as uncomfortable as watching Ricky Gervais ask for his Emmy back from Steve Carell. Yes it was funny but I was getting a bit worried that Steve was going to cry or beat the crap out of him. Other quick thoughts: Steve Martin, Genius. Josh Groban, surprisingly cool! Neil Patrick Harris and Kristin Chenoweth, favorite presenting couple. Cruel joke that was perfect — making reality TV host category wait until after the commercial break to see who won. Desperate Housewives all dolled up. Yay Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin and Mad Men! Click here for all the winners from last night. As for next year, let's hope the Emmys settle on one host since this year's group was like an experiment gone bad.

There is no more David E. Kelley, but there is an ex-mafia guy on ABC's new series "Life on Mars." Michael Imperioli, who played Christopher Moltisanti in the hit HBO series "The Sopranos," has joined the cast of "Life on Mars" as Detective Ray Carling, a man who feels that the present-day cop-trapped-in-the-1970s Sam Tyler (Jason O'Mara) took a job that was supposed to be his. The show, which is based on a BBC series that starred "Doctor Who's" John Simm, also stars Rachelle Lefevre and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's" Colm Meaney. The original pilot, which if shown will probably contain some reshoots and re-editing, was directed by Kelley -- best known for "Ally McBeal" and "Boston Legal" -- but it will not be run by Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec and Scott Rosenberg, who worked ...

The pilot of David E. Kelley's upcoming Life on Mars has suddenly appeared on pirate websites, TV Week reported Wednesday. The appearance of the video is likely to upset ABC programming executives since they ordered the series to be overhauled after seeing the pilot -- which is not likely ever to be aired in its original form. In a message posted on the TV Week site, Rick Ellis -- presumably the same writer who operates the AllYourTV.com website -- observed that the appearance of the pilots of other TV series have been leaked online before being extensively retooled and that at least five fall pilots are currently available on various file-sharing sites.

It seems that there is a lot of question on whether or not the British import "Life On Mars" is ready to take on the network grind on ABC, and if the network is even into it. But ABC entertainment president Stephen McPherson says all is well for the series that features a modern-day cop transported back to the 1970s. "We are actually ahead of schedule with new scripts in hand and production is set to go," McPherson told MediaWeek. "We wouldn't be promoting the show so heavily if it weren't going to air. The reports to the contrary are false." "Life On Mars" was created by Matthew Graham, Tony Jordan and Ashley Pharoah for BBC back in 2006 that starred John Simm, who many genre fans should recognize as the most recent actor to play The Master in "Doctor Who." David E. Kelley, of ...
