Tarantino Looks To Asia

10 October 2001 | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Director Quentin Tarantino is enlisting the help of Asian cinema legends Woo-ping Yuen and Sonny Chiba for his next film. He's hoping to secure Hong Kong's Ping and Japan's Chiba for next year's Kill Bill. Tarantino says, "It's not official and money hasn't changed any hands, but Woo-ping Yuen will choreograph the Chinese kung fu action and Sonny Chiba will choreograph the samurai action." The Tennessee-born director put the movie on hold until next year after his lead Uma Thurman became pregnant with her and Ethan Hawke's second child. Tarantino explains, "I've written this character for Uma and they are going to put her through training, where she will have to learn the kung fu animal styles. And I'll also have Yuen and Sonny play parts in it." Chiba is widely recognised for 1970s Street Fighter karate films - he has blackbelts in the martial arts of Judo, Ninjutsu, Kendo and Shorinji Kenpo. Yuen has recently worked on The Matrix and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
