Comedic actor Jamie Foxx has credited talk show host Oprah Winfrey with refining his rough exterior.
Foxx debuted his new MTV show From G's to Gents in America earlier this week in an effort to teach socially-challenged men how to perfect their modern-day etiquette.
And he insists it was Winfrey who whipped him into shape before he became an Oscar winner.
He says, "Oprah Winfrey said, `Before they give the Oscar out, there's a certain way you have to campaign and carry yourself.'
"Being a comedian, (I was) sort of looking at everything as like, 'Oh, it's a joke,' and she said, 'No, you really need to take it seriously,' and she took me and introduced me to Sidney Poitier and all these other different actors. I had to change."

Tyra Banks has been named the hardest-working person in showbusiness in a new online poll.
The model, talk show host and TV presenter has become a minimogul since she stepped down from the catwalk in 2006 - and now she has landed at the top of a new survey aimed at finding America's hardest-working celebrity.
Banks beat American Idol host and DJ Ryan Seacrest, Jennifer Lopez, Heidi Klum and Sean 'Diddy' Combs to claim the top spot on Parade.com's annual Summer Pop Culture poll.
The poll also claimed Oprah Winfrey as the celebrity most people would like as a next-door neighbour and Nicole Richie beat Mel Gibson and Tom Cruise to become the celebrity with the Most Improved Reputation.
Meanwhile, voters chose Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer as the Most Unlikely Couple and Halle Berry beat out Jennifer Lopez and Jessica Alba to claim the Hottest New Mama crown.

AFTRA has ratified the primetime contract, but SAG’s assault had great effect. The margin – the percent of yes votes – was only 62.4%. The percentage of no votes was 37.6%. Turnout was not released.
In contrast, the margin on the somewhat similar daytime pact (the AFTRA Network Code), ratified April 30, was 93%. In other words, SAG drove the margin down by 30 points – well over what I (I had predicted 20 points) and other expected when SAG’s anti-aftra campaign began.
Thus, although the deal passed, this has to be counted as a partial victory for SAG. A strike authorization vote still seems unlikely, because a 75% yes vote is required for passage and the fact that the AFTRA deal passed makes a successful strike authorization vote questionable. Nonetheless, SAG will be emboldened by the low yes vote achieved by AFTRA, and is likely to resist compromise with the AMPTP for some time to come, absent

Robert De Niro, Will Smith, Oprah Winfrey and Sir Bob Geldof attended a private dinner to celebrate Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday on Wednesday night.
The former South African president hosted the dinner in London's Hyde Park - the same venue his birthday concert will be held in on Friday.
In a tribute to the former premier, U.S. talk show host Winfrey said: "What is so special is that you spend 27 years in prison, you come out and you do the thing that everyone thought was impossible to do - become president of the nation and change the way people feel about Africa, and then you get to live to celebrate 90.
"I just don't know anybody who deserves this more or anybody who we should be gathered around literally at his feet to say thank you for all that he has given the world."
The fundraising dinner party is just one of a week-long series of events in the U.K. to honour Mandela.

Troubled supermodel Naomi Campbell has been banned from appearing onstage at Nelson Mandela's upcoming 90th birthday concert - by the man who once `adopted' her as his granddaughter.
According to reports, Mandela personally intervened to ensure the 38-year-old Brit was removed from the line-up for Friday's festivities.
A spokesman for Mandela has confirmed that Campbell will not be taking part in the charity concert in any official capacity.
The former South African leader is alleged to have made the decision after Campbell was sentenced to 200 hours community service and fined $4,500 (GBP2,250) after pleading guilty to assaulting two police officers on board a British Airways plane at London's Heathrow Airport.
A source tells the Britain's The Daily Mail, "The man himself intervened and she was pulled off the list. He was disappointed with her recent arrest... All plans were scrapped when pictures emerged of her being arrested, wearing the baseball cap with the Mandela number (46664) on it. She will be allowed to sit in the grandstand and watch the performances, but that is as far as it goes.
"The organisers felt that this type of negative publicity goes against everything Mandela stands for and didn't want her arrest to be associated with the charity concert."
But a spokesperson for the supermodel insists, "Naomi had never planned to go to the concert but she has been invited as a guest to his dinner tonight."
Other stars due to make an appearance at the birthday celebrations include Will Smith, Robert De Niro, Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, and former U.S. president Bill Clinton.
Campbell, who refers to Mandela as her "honorary grandfather," has a long history of involvement with the former South African leader and humanitarian.

Good news, everyone! There's an unlikely book on the best seller list and it wasn't even anointed by the celestial touch of Oprah. Instead, the book is a Christian novel called The Shack about what happens when Jesus looks like Oprah, or something. Naturally, it's really taken off due to word of mouth, because it combines three things America loves: Jesus, Oprah, and reading about terrible child abductions (Hello, The Lovely Bones!) into one tiny paperback package. From the NY Times: Eckhart Tolle may have Oprah Winfrey, but “The Shack” has people like Caleb Nowak. Mr. Nowak, a maintenance worker near Yakima, Wash., first bought a copy of “The Shack,” a slim paperback novel by an unknown author [William P. Young] about a grieving father who meets God in the form of a jolly African-American woman, at a Borders bookstore in March. He was...

Ellen DeGeneres did it again – claiming the title of outstanding talk-show host, for the fourth year in a row – at Friday night's 35th annual Daytime Emmy Awards, where a jubilant Tyra Banks and Rachael Ray also ended up in the winner's circle. "I never take this for granted," said DeGeneres, clutching her shiny statuette. "I know every single year people joke about it." Besides acknowledging her show staff and partner Portia de Rossi, DeGeneres also thanked her show's fans, "amazing, amazing people." Latest: Movie executives at Paramount Pictures have honoured their promise to preview Mike Myers' new film The Love Guru for concerned Hindu leaders in Los Angeles.
Hindus, led by Rajan Zed, campaigned to see the film before its release on Friday - in a bid to make sure their fears about the movie were overblown.
But the screening has only served to bolster the religious opposition to the film, which Zed and his followers insist is disrespectful to Hindus and their beliefs.
Zed has now urged Hindus around the world to boycott the movie, claiming the picture "lampoons Hinduism and Hindu concepts and uses Hindu terms frivolously".
After attending the screening on Thursday, Zed rages, "The Love Guru is even more denigrating than we earlier perceived from the information gathered from trailers, websites and other sources.
"Mike Myers' guru instigates a bar fight, repeatedly narrates penis jokes, mocks yoga - one of the six orthodox schools of Hindu philosophy, wears female jewellery, mocks the concept of third eye, makes disciples drink tea passed through his nose, orders alligator soup, induces elephant copulation in front of the crowd, introduces himself as 'His Holiness', lives in a lavish ashram staffed with scantily clad maids, and whose goal in life seems to appear on the Oprah Winfrey show."
And the Hindu leader has suggested other religious groups should give the film, in which Myers plays an oddball guru called Pitka, a miss.
He adds, "Today it is Hinduism, tomorrow Hollywood might attempt to denigrate another religions.
"Hinduism is often misunderstood and wrongly portrayed outside India. Movies like this bring more confusion and create stereotypes in the minds of audience."

Media mogul Oprah Winfrey told 4,700 graduates at California's Stanford University to trust their instincts during a rousing commencement address on Sunday.
Winfrey told students to trust their feelings like "a Gps system for life".
She said, "When you are doing the work you are meant to do, it feels right. Check your ego at the door and check your gut instead.
"Every wrong decision was the result of me not listening to my voice. If it doesn't feel right, don't do it."
And the TV talk show host confessed to not following her instincts when building her scandal-hit school for girls in Africa.
Winfrey told the graduates she was too busy planning the school's look when she should have been paying more attention to the employees - one was charged with abusing girls at the academy last year.
Winfrey revealed, "I had been paying attention to all of the wrong things. I built a school from the outside in, instead of from the inside out."
The commencement address at Stanford was extra special for Winfrey because her best friend Gayle King's daughter, the media mogul's goddaughter, was among the graduates.

Oprah Winfrey has landed at the top of the annual Forbes Celebrity 100 Power List for the second consecutive year. She has topped the list in four previous years. Tiger Woods placed second -- also for the second straight year, while Angelina Jolie placed third. In a statement, associate editor Matthew Miller, who heads the staff that compiles the Forbes magazine list, said, "It's not surprising that Oprah Winfrey and Tiger Woods remain at the top this year -- they're certainly some of the biggest earners." Winfrey reportedly earned $275 million during the past year; Woods, $115 million. However, Jolie took home a comparatively modest $14 million. While recognition on the list is weighted heavily on celebrities' earnings, other factors, including magazine covers, news reports, and talk-show appearances also figure in the assessment.

Actress Natalie Portman has reportedly visited Rwanda to shoot a clip promoting a new village for children orphaned by the 1994 genocide in the African country.
The Israeli-American star arrived in the central African nation earlier this week (begs02Jun08) to shoot the video, which is set to be aired on the Oprah Winfrey Show in the coming weeks, according to Israeli media reports.
An official close to the ministry of culture says, "The American film star is currently in Rwanda shooting a film on the genocide."
The Jewish-funded Rwandan community, due to be inaugurated in August, will be modelled along the lines of Israeli youth villages created for orphaned Holocaust survivors.
Approximately 800,000 people were massacred in Rwanda in 1994.
