Alan Young created some memorable characters over his long career in film and television. Co-starring with Rod Taylor, Young played David Filby in the classic sci-fi film of the 60s, The Time Machine. He also horsed around as Wilbur Post for six seasons in one of best-loved sitcoms ever, Mister Ed, and was the voice behind numerous cartoon characters such as the grumpy Scrooge McDuck. Mr. Young is celebrating a milestone birthday- although he isn’t especially fond of talking about such traditional annual events. But when I spoke with him a few days ago, he was quite happy to chat about his long career.
Born in Northern England, Alan’s Scottish father soon moved the family to Edinburgh, then later to Canada when he was six. Bed-ridden for months at a time with asthma, Alan would listen to radio shows and write his own comedy routines. »

Following up yesterday's announcement confirming Universal had selected December 15 as the release date for Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds on Blu-ray and DVD, the studio has issued a formal press release detailing the complete contents for the two-disc special edition set.
As previously mentioned, Inglourious Basterds with Brad Pitt on Blu-ray will be presented on Blu-ray in 2.4:1 1080p video and 5.1 DTS-hd Master Audio. It does not look like D-box Motion Code will be included on the physical disc (though may be available for download on or after release).
Bonus features are identical between the two-disc DVD and Blu-ray editions with the lone exception being Bd-Live connectivity included with Blu-ray. The complete list is as follows:

While we already knew that The Weinstein Company would be releasing “Inglourious Basterds” before the end of the year in order to circumvent the expense of sending out screener copies to critics (studios send out screeners at the end of the year for films they think can garner some awards buzz), today the specs have landed online and I’m impressed that we’re not getting a bare-bones DVD but a healthy amount of special features.
However, you won’t find any deleted scenes and since the version that hit theaters in August is different than what was screened at Cannes, it would be out of the question to assume we’ll be getting another edition sometime next year. That being said, how long have be waiting for “Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair?” I’m perfectly happy with the current cut of Ib (just as I’m happy »

Director Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" will be released on Blu-ray, Hi-Def and DVD, December 15, 2009 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Both the Blu-ray and Two-Disc Special Edition DVD contain a digital copy of the film with over 90 minutes of behind-the-scenes bonus features. In the film, actor Brad Pitt stars as a Popeye-squinting, hangman's knot-scarred American commander of a gnarly team of misfit soldiers known as 'The Basterds', whose ruthless exploits in occupied France strike terror in the hearts of the Axis rank and file. Cast also includes actor Christoph Waltz, named Best Actor at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival for his unforgettable performance as an obnoxious German officer, B.J. Novak, Diane Kruger, Eli Roth, Melanie Laurent and Michael Fassbender. In addition, guest stars include Mike Myers, Rod Taylor and Julie Dreyfus. Well, how about that? Our previous reports that the Weinsteins were planning on releasing Quentin Tarantino’s war film, Inglourious Basterds, on DVD before year’s end for Award reasons have turned out to be true. The Playlist points us to Blu-ray.com where they confirm December 15th in the U.S. and December 7th in the UK as release dates for Inglourious Basterds on DVD and Blu-ray. Earlier this year, the financially strapped Weinsteins sold the DVD distribution rights to Universal who will be handling the release.
However, where the news has been confirmed of an early Inglourious Basterds release, this news differs in that it won’t be a “down and dirty, bear-bones” release after all. You’d think that by releasing it early to get it readily available to award voters (individually watermarked award screeners cost a helluva of a lot more than a general release on »

Eli Roth and Brad Pitt in Inglourious Basterds
Photo: The Weinstein Co. / Universal Pictures Organized into five chapters and running at 2 hours and 32 minutes, it took me two screenings of Quentin Tarantino's World War II re-imagining Inglourious Basterds to completely formulate my opinion. Originally I found myself unnerved by the running time and bored in the middle of major scenes. I don't know if it was the improved theater setting or just a matter of being better prepared, but my second screening was true joy as the majority of my earlier complaints were no longer a concern. I was able to sit back and enjoy every minute, although I still won't say it ends up being the "masterpiece" the film's final line of dialogue claims it to be, but if you are a fan of Tarantino you would be hard-pressed not to enjoy yourself and I expect many to come out absolutely loving it. »

When Quentin Tarantino was at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008, he promised he'd return a year later with his World War II epic, Inglourious Basterds... despite the fact that the script wasn't finished and casting wasn't in place. Still, true to his word, Tarantino did return to Cannes with a print of Inglourious Basterds and ever since then audiences have been anticipating this long-talked-about film that will finally hit theaters nationwide on August 21.
We spoke exclusively with a few of the actors from this amazing ensemble cast like Diane Kruger, director/actor Eli Roth, B.J. Atomic Popcorn: So, can we talk about working with Tarantino and stepping into a project like this?
Fassbender is a Basterd
Fassbender: Well, I suppose it’s sort of [pause] first thing’s that it was very surreal for me, and because the first thing I did when I was starting to get into the business was when I was 18 and me and my friends got together and did a stage version of Reservoir Dogs in a local nightclub. Well, in Ireland, it’s called disco, really. So that was my first steps in getting into a career, so to actually work with him was a dream come true. And once I sort of got beyond that, it’s just fascinating to watch the man work, cause he really does work in his unique sort of way. And also the fact that he’s just so knowledge able in film, »

Oh, that Quentin Tarantino, he knows subtlety like I know romantic comedies, and I know romantic comedies like no one’s business. Check out the latest poster for Qt’s “Inglourious Basterds”, which features a gun-toting Brad Pitt standing on a pile of dead Nazi bodies. I think they’re trying to say something with this poster, but I can’t just put my finger on it… In Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as “The Basterds” are chosen specifically to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis. The Basterds soon cross paths with a French-Jewish teenage girl who runs a movie theater in Paris which is targeted by the soldiers. Starring Brad Pitt, Cloris Leachman, Diane Kruger, Mike Myers, B.J. Novak, Eli Roth, Samm Levine, Til Schweiger, Michael Fassbender, Julie Dreyfus, Daniel Brühl, Rod Taylor, Mélanie Laurent, Jacky Ido, »

Yesterday came the yearly announcement from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as it extended 134 invitations to several artists and executives "who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures" read the press release. Of course all of them can decline, but I wouldn't necessarily expect that to happen as all who accept the invitation will be the only additions in 2009 to the Academy's roster of voting members. "These filmmakers have, over the course of their careers, captured the imagination of audiences around the world," said Academy President Sid Ganis. "It's this kind of talent and creativity that make up the Academy, and I welcome each of them to our ranks." The list follows below and reading around the best analysis I saw of it came from Nathaniel Rogers at The Film Experience who, among other things, pointed out the addition of longtime Darren Aronofsky's »
