Keith Arem Goes From Call of Duty to Frost Road

1 December 2009 11:51 PM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

There has been very little immigration between the worlds of videogames and films, but that doesn’t stop Keith Arem, director of the game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, from trying to direct a large motion picture.  According to Variety, this film is called Frost Road, which is the story about a young man who is immune to a contagion that is sweeping through a small east coast town. Arem is also collaborating on a graphic novel version with c-creator Brandon Humphreys and illustrator Christopher Shy. Variety discusses some of Arem’s credentials: As talent director on the game, Arem was responsible for directing, casting and engineering all of the actors for the game, which included 50 Cent, Barry Pepper, Kevin McKidd, Keith David, Billy Murray and Lance Henriksen. Through Pcb, Arem has also done game development for the “Lord of the Rings,” “Spider-Man,” “Rainbow Six,” “Silent Hill,” “Prince of Persia, »

Conspiracy! Greengrass Says No More Bourne And Call Of Duty Director To Now Direct Movies.

1 December 2009 10:55 PM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

If there's one thing I love, it's good old fashioned conspiracy theories. Nothing like making a bunch of stuff up to make yourself feel better and give those around you a reason to think you're even more insane than they had imagined. Two stories broke today that have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Or do they?First up, is the so not news of a director not doing a movie he was never attached to direct in the first place. Huh? The trades has more:Paul Greengrass has opted out of helming another installment of Universal Pictures' successful Jason Bourne franchise, and Matt Damon's participation is not sealed. That's a blow for the studio looking to assemble another sequel to one of its most important franchises, but hardly a fatal one. Video Game Director Keith Arem Heading to Frost Road

1 December 2009 4:59 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Now here's a switch -- instead of turning a video game into a movie, a heralded video game director has been tapped to direct a feature film, and he's even written the script himself!

According to Variety Keith Arem, director of Activision Blizzard's blockbuster sequel 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2' will make his feature directing bow on 'Frost Road', an action thriller that Cary Brokaw (Hammer Films' The Resident) will produce along with Steven L'Heureux. Brokaw will produce through his Avenue Pictures shingle, while L'Heureux will work through his Solipsist Films.

Arem (whose gaming credits also include Lord of the Rings, Spider-Man, Rainbow Six, Silent Hill, Prince of Persia, Guitar Hero, and more) will co-produce through his Pcb Productions, and in addition to writing the script, he and Brandon Humphreys are developing the project as a graphic novel with Christopher Shy illustrating.

Warfare 2 guy's Frost

1 December 2009 2:21 PM, PST | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Although I think that Uncharted 2 is probably the closest I've come to feeling like I was playing a movie, the blockbuster Modern Warfare 2 is also an undeniably cinematic experience. So it seems like a natural transition for Keith Arem, that game's "talent director", to slide from pushing polygons to shooting a live-action movie. (Arem was responsible for gathering and directing Warfare 2's cast members 50 Cent, Barry Pepper, Kevin McKidd, Keith David, Billy Murray and Lance... »

This television movie will begin shooting this week in Toronto. The show itself is going to run later this season on CBS.

Spacey as Abramoff

1 July 2009 1:12 PM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Journalistic carnivore Nikki Finke recently posted a pic of Kevin Spacey as disgraced Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff in the indie biopic Casino Jack and well, it's Spacey in a golf cart. This could have just as well been some kinda celebrity golfing tournament where he chose to pair up with Barry Pepper. Or him on vacation with Barry Pepper. You know, that kinda vacation. Awkward, sure, but not necessarily unlikely. In any case, it's not. It's Spacey in character as Abramoff, who landed in... »

Cast Rounds Out For Casino Jack

17 May 2009 6:46 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

George Hickenlooper made a pretty great decision when he cast Kevin Spacey as the lead in Casino Jack, the story of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Now he's making a few more good choices as he rounds out the cast. Barry Pepper, Kelly Preston and Twilight's Rachell Lafevre have all been cast in supporting roles in the film, which is set to come out in March of next year. According to a press release from the producers, Pepper will play Abramoff's protege Michael Scanlon, Lafevre Scanlon's love interest, and Preston will appear as Abramoff's wife Pam. Hard to say between Pepper and Preston which has the juicier part; both of them will get to play off Spacey in full-on creep mode, which must be fun for any actor. Filming starts in May in Toronto, presumably not long after Lafevre wraps work on the Twilight sequel New Moon. »

Barry Pepper Gets Honored At Second Annual Las Vegas Film Festival

13 April 2009 12:58 PM, PDT | icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news »

On Friday night, the Las Vegas Film Festival hosted Barry Pepper. The festival gave him a celebrity tribute following his film, "Like Dandelion Dust".

Pepper's performance as a rough, factory-working father recently released from prison was described by Variety magazine as "head turning." Early buzz on the film includes awards at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival and the Sedona International Film Festival where it won Best Feature.

More than 100 films and documentaries premiered at the Eastside Cannery in Boulder City from April 9 to Easter Sunday. The festival drew more locals from Las Vegas, Henderson and Boulder City than actors and actresses who were in the films.

The big event for Friday and Saturday, though, was the premiere of the new Robert Pattinson film "How to Be." Friday, the festival had two showings of the film, and due to its popularity, they added a third showing on Saturday.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Seven Pounds’ With Will Smith is Manipulative Melodrama

2 April 2009 10:05 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Blu-Ray Rating: 2.5/5.0 Chicago – There’s arguably no bigger star on Earth than Will Smith but even the greats need a misfire to bring them crashing to the ground. “Seven Pounds” is a mess, a film of conflicting tones and arguably offensive themes, a movie that moves beyond traditional melodrama in just the first few minutes and keeps flying into the over-the-top stratosphere. The Sony Blu-Ray release is impressive, but the movie itself is not.

If you focus solely on the excellent work by Rosario Dawson and are impressed by gorgeous HD picture quality, there may be enough weight in “Seven Pounds” to warrant a rental, but most people will be shocked by this somber melodrama that somehow also tries to be a crowd-pleaser.

Seven Pounds was released on Blu-Ray on March 31st, 2009.

Ben Thomas (Smith) opens the film by calling 911 and announcing that he needs an ambulance for his own suicide. »

George Lucas Putting Together 'Red Tails' Cast

2 March 2009 3:11 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

The next movie endeavor for George Lucas will be his first non-Star Wars/Indiana Jones film since The Radioland Murders, which, it should be duly nuted, is a tornado of mediocrity. That movie is Red Tails, a chronicle of the Tuskegee Airmen during the second world war.

Lucas has written the story, and it has been turned over to John Ridley to make it into a workable screenplay for director Anythony Hemingway (The Wire). Roger Friedman at Fox says that Lucas has his eye on several actors for the film, including Terence Howard, NeYo, Nate Parker, Barry Pepper, and Bryan Cranston, among others.

One peculiar note about the cast: Friedman says that a couple African American actors who would make great additions, like Derek Luke, won't be pursued because of their recent appearances in Spike Lee's Miracle at St. Anna. »
