Michael Jackson is back. Ok, stay with me here: In February 2010, the “Honey I Shrunk The Audience” attraction at Disneyland in southern California is out. Taking back its place is a 17-minute “3-D musical motion picture space adventure” starring the “King of Pop” Michael Jackson, who performs two songs: “We Are Here to Change The World” and “Another Part of Me.” The movie was directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and produced by George Lucas.
The 3-D experience is called Captain Eo, and it originally played at Epcot and Disneyland starting in 1986 until closing around 1998. Captain Eo cost about a million dollars to make per minute, and was at the time the most expensive motion picture ever.
The short film was about Captain Eo (Jackson) and his crew traveling towards a bitter queen who lived in a cold dark world. (who was played by Anjelica Huston). In the original presentation, lasers, »

Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.
With the last name of Schwartz, it's no doubt that my Sick Day Stash preference happens to be "Spaceballs." After having "May the Schwartz be with you!" screamed at me by seven year olds on my school bus for weeks on end, I knew it was time to send my mother to the video store and get my first taste of Mel Brooks. And yes, I was young enough to still be single digits in the 90s. »

The director of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2, Ivan Reitman, is attached to return for the developing third installment. The original crew of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver have already agreed to return. (Sorry, no Rick Moranis. He’s still retired.)
Bloody-Disgusting has confirmed Reitman will definitely be involved in some capacity, but he’s currently only attached as a producer. It’s still uncertain whether he wants to get behind the camera again, so for now he’s merely “attached.”
That being said, I’d expect a decision on a director to be made soon as screenwriters Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg have already turned in a script. B-d learned the story will open with the ghost removal service re-opening after a several year hiatus. Other rumors have hinted at the Ghostbusters training a newer, younger crew of ghost hunters, but they’re unconfirmed. »

According to Bloody Disgusting, Ivan Reitman has the opportunity to direct Ghostbusters 3 but hasn’t decided whether or not to take the job. Reitman, who hasn’t directed a film since My Super Ex-Girlfriend in 2006 and now spends his time producing, also directed the first two Ghostbuster films. Reitman can be hit or miss – Ghostbusters was a comic revelation, but Ghostbusters II was a precipitous fall. However, he still has the talent to see it through. Bloody Disgusting has plot and character details: Apparently, the sequel takes place when the paranormal researchers “reopen” their ghost removal service after it has been closed for quite a few years. As previously reported, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver have all confirmed their involvement (in various interviews on the web). There were rumors that the movie would include a younger ghostbusting cast for a new generation, »

In a perfect world, we’d have a Ghostbusters 3 with Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, with Ivan Reitman returning to direct. Also in a perfect world, Ghostbusters 3 would be a worthy sequel to the original, a great swan song of classic comedy performers returning to the roles they’re so often synonymous with.
The good news is that this perfect world is one step closer — Ivan Reitman is returning in some capacity, either as a director or a producer. What’s also great is that Rick Moranis (who has disappeared into oblivion) and the lovely Sigourney Weaver are returning as well.
The film will take place “when the paranormal researchers ‘reopen’ their ghost removal service after it has been closed for quite a few years.”
I’m sort of in shock, to be honest — this mammoth project is actually moving forward at a sure but steady pace. »

We stopped reporting on Ghostbusters 3 a while ago because every update was some bullshit rumor or a quote that wouldn't make any sense. However, our friends at Bloody-Disgusting (who always have reliable sources) have an interesting update on the project today that I just have to throw out. They say that Ivan Reitman, who directed the original two Ghostbusters movies, is attached to potentially direct Ghostbusters 3. "While he's attached, the word is that he hasn't decided whether or not he really wants to direct, yet." Not sure what that means exactly, probably that he's not 100% on-board, but this is still great to hear. Right? They also say that Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver have all confirmed their involvement as well. And as for the storyline, here's what they've heard: "The sequel takes place when the paranormal researchers 'reopen' their ghost »

I've been sitting on this news for a few days now as I can't seem to figure out what's new at this point. So I figured I'd just throw it out there and see how it goes. Why not, right? Anyways, I have straight up confirmed, 100%, without a shadow of a doubt that Ivan Reitman, director of Ghost Busters and Ghostbusters II, is in fact attached to get behind the camera for Ghostbuster 3. While he's attached, the word is that he hasn't decided whether or not he really wants to direct, yet. But here's a little something else we conjured up. Apparently, the sequel takes place when the paranormal researchers "reopen" their ghost removal service after it has been closed for quite a few years. As previously reported, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver have all confirmed their involvement. »

So another year has passed and its time for another round of awards for the people who make the television shows we like to watch.
Television is interesting these days. Never before have we seen such great, creative output. Never before have we been subjected to such drivel. It all gets paraded before us tonight, as we watch the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards (handed out, it should be noted, by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences) on CBS, CTV in Canada.
8:00
Interesting that the Emmys chose to introduce the 2009 edition of the Primetime awards by harkening back to the early days of television. Especially as the business of television has never been closer to a complete collapse. Oh, announcer who is trying so hard to sound like a TV host from the '50s. You don't sound at all like you're a three pack-a-day smoker.

Funny movies make us laugh, that’s a no-brainer. But, what happens when you get a movie with Lots of funny people in it? Chances are, if it’s done well, you get an exponentially funnier movie. It’s like asking someone if they’d like a scoop of ice cream, or if they’d like three scoops of ice cream with hot fudge, caramel, whipped topping, nuts, sprinkles (gotta have sprinkles) and a cherry on top… it’s an easy decision. That’s sort of like asking someone if they want to see Mike Judge’s new comedy Extract, which opens nationwide in theaters this Friday. This should be an easy decision as well. So, we Movie Geeks decided to reflect on these movies and “extract” a list of our Top Ten Best Ensemble Comedies.

Rick Moranis may well be tossing and turning in his sleep this week, hearing an echoing voice singing “feed me, feed me now…” as a plant similar to the man-eating Audrey II has been found. He probably isn’t rushing to get himself a Nepenthes Attenboroughii from the Little Shop of Horrors any time soon though. The new carnivorous plant was recently discovered in the Philippines and can eat creatures as big as rats, but thankfully has not acquired the taste for human blood (yet).
The plant has been named in honour of Sir David Attenborough; however we’re not sure how happy he is to have a plant similar to the man-eating monster from the darkly comic 80s musical Little Shop of Horrors associated with him. Perhaps he can donate it to his brother’s Jurassic Park. Scientist Stewart McPherson adds: “It’s definitely not a joke. There’s »

Oh God. Sometimes you just saunter along thinking all is well and then you have Katey Rich on the Blendcast and her appearance makes you realize just how far you have left to go as a broadcast journalist. That just happened. Good thing there.s enough references to Rick Moranis, Bill Curtis, Jonah Hill and that Zoltar Machine from Big to distract our more ignorant viewers. Listen below as Katey Rich talks about Comic Con, Trevor Clippert throws out at least ten Princess Bride quotes, Brain Carraher bitches about Phil Hellmuth and Mack Rawden lets you know what happens when a gypsy curses a pregnant woman. G-Force is also slandered with venom and virulent ire, some nice things are said about Freaks And Geeks, and we all plea for Raaaaaaaaandy to be given his own movie. Chicago – The Round-Up is back to provide our loyal readers with synopsis and feature details on a few titles that may have slipped on to DVD or Blu-Ray under your radar but might make the right purchase choice this holiday weekend.
It’s not that these title are any “lesser” than some of the biggies out there (one nearly made $100 million domestically and another is a Mel Brooks classic), but we can’t get around to a full-length review of everything that comes into the HollywoodChicago.com office and we want to keep you as informed as possible.
“Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail” and “Spaceballs” were released on June 16th, 2009.

If you ask someone what their favorite Sci-fi spoof movie is, chances are Spaceballs will be mentioned. It’s the as-of-yet unmatched parody of Star Wars (and Star Trek, etc.) that just can’t seem to be replaced. It’s not even Mel Brooks’s best work, but it has a stranglehold on the genre. Brooks has a comic sensibility that many filmmakers can only dream of: the timing is perfect, the casting is always top-notch and the scripts have that necessary balance of self-importance and ridiculous notion to keep the entire scramble of a genre in one piece. Unfortunately, Spaceballs seems to grow dimmer as opposed to brighter as time marches on – but that has a lot to do with Mel’s self-professed, basic principle of parody: you can’t parody what you don’t love. Alas, the world has fallen out of love with Star Wars and Spaceballs feels it. »

It's been 25 years since "Who ya gonna call?" became a national catchphrase and 20 years since the bland sequel to Ghostbusters all but ended the franchise. Over the years, there has been sporadic talk about reviving the franchise, but the principals could never agree to terms and the franchise languished. Now, the possibility of a third film about New York City's favorite paranormal investigators seems a possibility, thanks to an unlikely impetus: the Ghostbusters video game.
A couple of weeks ago, Harold Ramis, who co-wrote and starred in the first two Ghostbusters films, said he had written a story for a third film that The Office writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky were adapting into a screenplay. Now, with the Ghostbusters video game becoming the top-selling Xbox 360 game and second best-selling Playstation 3 game on Amazon.com, there is even more talk about the film franchise. With the original 2 Ghostbusters films about to come out on Blu-Ray, interest in the property is currently at a fever pitch! And fans have been eagerly anticipating the proposed Ghostbusters 3 ever since it was announced that screenwriters Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (The Office) were tapped to write the script. Coming Soon.net caught up with Harold Ramis, who's out promoting his latest directorial effort Year One. Here's what he had to say on the status of Ghostbusters 3:
"I wrote the story for the new movie with them, and Dan and I've been consulting. We're just waiting to see a first draft and where we are. Everyone says they'll do it, they've all said they'll do it. No one has signed anything yet--we haven't signed anything either--but there's the spirit of willingness in the air."

Continuing the slew of possibilities hitting the web over the past few weeks, the latest on Ghostbusters 3 is some of the best news yet. Ivan Reitman, director of the first two Ghostbusters films, hasn't totally closed the door on directing the forthcoming third film. Ive never ruled [directing it] out, Reitman told MTV News. I certainly was responsible in every capacity for the first two movies so I certainly wouldnt wander away from the third oneespecially if its something we all think is worth doing. Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and even Rick Moranis are all said to be returning in the film scripted by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, which will bring a whole new group of Ghost Busters into the fold (including some females this time around). »
