1. .Psycho. . Alfred Hitchcock created the mother of all slasher flicks. Top Ten Movie Screamers: 10 to 6 5 – Janet Leigh in Psycho (1960) I don’t recall myself recoiling in horror while watching Janet Leigh’s shower scene in Psycho, but I do recall quite vividly one night long ago when I was showering at an acquaintance’s place and imagined myself facing the same fate as Leigh’s unlucky bank teller. So, I guess that sequence did leave a lasting impression on me. (Needless to say, I was out of that acquaintance’s shower stall and all dried up in a matter of seconds.) 4 – Fay Wray in King Kong (1933), Doctor X (1932), and The Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933) Fay Wray has to be here. To her belongs the title of [...] »

Doctor X directed by Michael Curtiz (top); Janet Leigh in Psycho (bottom) Halloween Time. So, here’s my list of the Top Ten Movie Screamers of All Time. Well, at least the Top Ten Movie Screamers of All Time That I Can Think of Right Now. You won’t find any new movies here because I tend to avoid most recent horror movies — partly because most of the recent ones I’ve seen are total crap; partly because there’s enough horror in the world out there and I see no need for me to go looking for more at the movies. Also, most of the screaming newcomers don’t have the vocal flair of their predecessors. Even Naomi Watts, a really good actress, pales next to [...] »

Before I launch into the conclusion of my 50 Influential Scream Queens (read part 1 here), please let me remind you that this list is based upon my personal taste, and my personal taste alone. I didn't poll 100 Fango readers, the Fango staff or any other form of 'industry professionals'. It's all opinion, so if you feel I've wronged a certain actress by excluding them from the list, don't leap to brand the entire Fango crew 'vile'. I probably just don't personally find their work to be that influential. Either that or I'm just ignorant to their accomplishments!
25. Mia Farrow: Mia's genre work may be a bit limited, but that doesn't change the fact that Rosemary's Baby will forever be regarded as one of the creepiest films in history. Farrow's portrayal of Rosemary Woodhouse is harrowing to say the least, and will always remain (in my mind) one of the best performances the genre has seen. »

In celebration of this ghoulish time of year, we've put together a list of our Top 10 horror movies to watch on Halloween. Forget about things that go bump in the night, these creatures are the night. So, sit back, grab your popcorn, curl up in that comfy blanket (you'll need it), and get ready for your blood to curdle and your hair to stand on end. In other words - watch at your own risk... Halloween Ah, Halloween - John Carpenter's 1978 horror classic. Just hearing the name Michael Myers can send chills up your spine, and his character has become synonymous with this witchy holiday. Having escaped the sanitarium he was locked up in for fifteen years for the murder of his older sister, Myers (Nick Castle and Tony Moran) unleash hell on the small town of Haddonfield, Ilinois on Halloween night. Among his prey is Jamie Lee Curtis, »

Remember the following phone exchange in Scream 2 between Randy (played by Jamie Kennedy) and the psychotic killer?
Killer: What's your favorite scary movie?
Randy: Showgirls. Absolutely frightening.
Well amazingly, JoBlo.com writes that German site Extratipp is circulating a rumor that the Paul Verhoeven flesh-fest — notorious for its asinine plot and atrocious acting — might be getting the sequel treatment.
Unfortunately (or fortunately ... we can't decide), this alleged project has nothing to do with Verhoeven. Some unknown named Marc Vorlander is supposedly developing the sequel, which is titled Showgirls: Story of Hope. The title references the name of one of the original movie's minor characters, who was played by Rena Riffel.
Normally, if you see a character's name in the title of a movie, you expect that character to last. But no, apparently Hope kicks the bucket very early. JoBlo threw the content of the German post into a »

I’m always amazed when I hear that somebody out there liked Rob Zombie’s Halloween films so imagine my surprise when the Chiller Eyegore Honorees found their way into my inbox today with none other than Rob himself at the top of the list. Once again, I’m reminded of the fact that someone out there liked Halloween II, and here’s the news to prove it.
Zombie, along with actors Tobin Bell (Jigsaw from the Saw films) and Noah Segan (Deadgirl), will be honored at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights during the Chiller Eyegore Awards ceremony. Make-up and FX man Rick Baker will be given a lifetime achievement award during the same ceremony, which has previously awarded the likes of Alice Cooper (hell yeah!!!!!), Patricia Arquette, Janet Leigh, Roger Corman, Jennifer Tilly, Joss Whedon, Rob Zombie, Karen Black, Clive Barker, Julie Benz, Shawnee Smith, Sherri Moon Zombie, »

With this week's release of Jennifer's Body it is inevitable the topic of scream queens will come up, and even if it doesn't... I'm bringing it up, but not in the form of a top ten. I really don't see how you can rank these ladies, or what purpose it would serve as several could take the top spot and the others all coming in a close second. They all bring a little something special to each of their films and remain memorable for their performances. So I present you a selection of classic scream queens, including all-timers such as Jamie Lee Curtis, Janet Leigh and Fay Wray, a few of my own favorites and a selection of memorable extras at the very end. However, once you look through my list tell me who I left off and who your favorite scream queens are. I think I've taken care of many of the obvious choices, »

One of the things I love best about the internet is that people post movie-related lists and then other people get to comment on all the things the lists did wrong (or, sometimes, did right). Today, in anticipation of this week's Sorority Row, Moviefone posted a list of the ten sexiest scream queens. It's a fun list, and it's wise enough to go all the way back to Fay Wray (King Kong) and Janet Leigh (Psycho), and it includes two essentials: Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween) and Marilyn Burns (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). It also includes Shannon Elizabeth, a dubious choice for films like Jack Frost, 13 Ghosts and Cursed (although I'm glad someone has thrown Cursed back into the ring; it's silly but it's also sexy, well-acted and very sharply directed by Wes Craven).
I like Adrienne Barbeau as a choice, too, even though she's really only a "scream queen" in one movie, »

Debbie Rochon, often described as a scream queen herself, wrote in an article originally published in Gc Magazine that "a true Scream Queen isn't The Perfect Woman. She's sexy, seductive, but most importantly 'attainable' to the average guy. Or so it would seem." Nastassja Kinski Films: To the Devil a Daughter (1976) [1] Cat People (1982) [2] The Day the World Ended (2001) [3] Inland Empire (2006) [4] Kinski will always be remembered for the iconic photograph shot by Richard Avedon (with a snake coiled around her body) and her role in Paul Schrader's (not so good) remake of Cat People. Needless to say, it was a hit at the box office and Kinski deservingly received a Saturn Award for Best Actress. Caroline Munro Films: The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971) [5] Dr. Phibes Rises Again (1972) [6] Dracula A.D. 1972 [7] Maniac (1980) [8] Faceless (1987) [9] Demons 6 (1989) [10] Caroline Munro seduced audiences in her Hammer roles in films like Dracula A.D. 1972, but for gore hounds, »

Photo: Universal Studios Home Entertainment Top 10 Great Movie Deaths Movies love to kill people, and actors love to die (preferably slowly and with a great close-up). Yet, more often than not, film fatalities are an accountant's errand. Just another tally mark in the body count. This isn't a list celebrating the art of ludicrous squibs and exploding craniums. The following movie deaths deliver more oomph than henchmen #4 getting steamrolled by the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile. These are the death scenes we remember long after the actors have screamed, slobbered, cried, coughed, wheezed, or drawn out to William Shatner-esque lengths their final words. They are a perfect combination of acting, writing, filmmaking, image and idea. Some are shocking. Some are sad or bittersweet. Others funny. Some deaths you cheer on. All are memorable. Let's begin to experience ten (technically eleven) great ends, and considering the nature of this list, yes, there are spoilers, »

A scene has been scrapped from the remake of Broadway musical Bye Bye Birdie over producers' fears it was "gang rape-y".
Gina Gershon, who stars as Rose in the upcoming revival, reveals her bosses at the Roundabout Theater Company have axed a dance sequence that has featured in the show since its debut in 1960.
The original scene shows Gershon's character, made famous on the stage by Chita Rivera and in film by Janet Leigh, crashing a Shriners' banquet and flirting underneath a table with a group of men wearing Fez hats.
She tells the New York Daily News, "It seemed a little too gang rape-y."
Gershon is set to take the stage opposite E.R. star John Stamos when the show debuts in New York next month. »
