Paula Patton thinks playing a lesbian is important in "Precious"

10 November 2009 10:00 AM, PST | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

If you weren't familiar with Paula Patton before Precious, you should get acquainted with her in the new issue of Giant magazine.

Being called "the next Halle Barry" is a great compliment, especially for a relatively new actress like Paula.

Her first film was 2005's Hitch and she's only been in a handful since then. Fortunately for her, she's been able to land parts in fairly high profile films like Idlewild from the men behind Outkast and now in Precious, which broke box office records this weekend.

Patton plays Ms. Rain, a lesbian teacher that helps Precious to question her life's worth and her sexuality. In this great video of interviews, Paula discusses her love of Gabby Sidibe (the actress who played Precious) and why it was important that her character be a lesbian.

With so many other stars in the film, it's important not to ignore Paula Patton — she's »

Blu-ray Review - Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

9 November 2009 6:12 AM, PST | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

As Pixar’s catalog expands, it is hard not to get more and more critical of animated films from other studios, as they seemingly become harder and harder to watch. There are a few exceptions. DreamWorks on occasion finds a niche and creates a hit, but most still find themselves in a rut, lacking the sophistication of Pixar and creating titles that play down to their audiences and frankly lack the same visual flair. The original Ice Age (2002) found a nice spot for itself in the animated mix. While it didn’t exactly exceed its competition in any respect, Ice Age had plenty of wit and enough character to carry it successfully. With a unique ensemble cast including Ray Romano, Denis Leary and Queen Latifah, the film told a fun story of unlikely friendships, with good humor in the form of Scrat’s quest for an acorn. But fast forward »

Free Twilight, New Moon, and Other Prizes!

31 October 2009 11:52 PM, PDT | ScreenStar | See recent ScreenStar news »

If there's one thing we love to do, it's giving stuff away. Seriously, we've been doing it for so many years, we can't even recall why we ever started. Everything from CDs and DVDs to jewelry and perfumes to movie tickets and clothing. Sure, it costs us quite a lot every single month; prizes are often donated but we also purchase them ourselves, and we have always burdened the shipping costs, which can be quite high when you consider they are mailed all over the world. We average one prize for every day of the year, or thirty in any given month. That amounts to thousands of prizes in just the past three years alone. With a focus on celebrities, we've always had Jonas Brothers and Twilight merchandise, Miley Cyrus for the kids, and much more, always more. So what are you waiting for? Find out what you've been missing. »

Lauren Conrad once joked she'd like to see friend Lo Bosworth star in the movie adaptation of her novel "L.A. Candy," but recently told us she's taking it slow with the casting process. Although Stephanie Pratt has helpfully suggested that Queen Latifah play her.) Now, Conrad's former boss, current "City" star and People's Revolution head honcho Kelly Cutrone imagines who should play her character (tough-as-nails PR boss Fiona Chen) in the flick.

"What about Jonathan Rhys Meyers? That could be really good crossover role for him," she joked to MTV News.

"They would have to have black hair — they would have to be slightly on the mean side. I would like Cher to play me," she proposed. "I think that would be really great. »

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs + The Scrat Pack

Directed by: Carlos Saldanha, Mike Thurmeier

Cast: Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Simon Pegg

Running Time: 1 hr 35 mins

Rating: PG

Due Out: October 27, 2009

Plot: Manny the mammoth, (Romano) Sid the megatherium, (Leguizamo) and Diego the saber-toothed tiger (Leary) are back for a third adventure that has them exploring through an underground world of dinosaurs. Along the way they meet Buckminster, (Pegg), a somewhat psychotic weasel who is set on taking down a giant beast named Rudy.

Who’S It For? Because they don’t likely have an adequate grasp on the idea of quality at a single digit age, kids will enjoy the breeziness of this movie. Parents will get a good nap in, possibly dreaming about watching an earlier Ice Age movie, or hell – or even more likely, a Pixar film.

[DVD Review] Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

28 October 2009 9:00 AM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

It’s perfectly fair to ask if Ice Age’s introduction of dinosaurs shows an udder disdain for any sense of chronological integrity. The answer? Yes. Clearly that’s not the point. In fact, if you’re only now asking that question after making it through the second Ice Age movie it’s no wonder you think this series has any scientific bearing. Although, if you want to make a movie about prehistoric times without pissing off creationists and scientists what better strategy is there than ditching both sides and just going balls to the wall with nonsense? Oh, and dinosaurs. You gotta have dinosaurs. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, desperate for a new plot device, introduces a secret underground world where time stood still (and oddly temperate) allowing dinosaurs to go on living. In theaters we received a rather impressive 3D presentation, however, for Blu-ray it’s been »
