Steve Coogan as Dana Marschz and Amy Poehler as Cricket Feldstein in Hamlet 2
Photo: Focus Features Here it is, a publicist's nightmare. Hamlet 2 is a film that really doesn't have an audience, at least not a target one. It seems Focus has been hell bent on trying to create a little controversy around the film's portrayal of Jesus as a "Sexy Jesus" but it seems most people have turned a deaf ear. That isn't to say Hamlet 2 isn't a funny film, because it really isn't all that bad, it's to say it is something of an enigma that isn't quite sure of exactly what it is as it mixes racy comedy with personal drama giving the studio nothing to sell, not even a big name actor. At times raunchy and at other times sweet, Hamlet 2 centers on Dana Marschz a washed up actor turned failed high

Starring Steve Coogan, Catherine Keener, and Elisabeth Shue

Rated R
When you see that a comedy is called Hamlet 2, your expectations either go up or down. The title tells you something, and you have to have some reaction to it. Odds are you have a fair understanding of The Danish Play even if you’ve never read Hamlet. And if you think making it this far without having to proves something, then the something you've proven is that you like depriving yourself life’s perfections.
So, before you see a frame of Hamlet 2, you’re aware that this film in some manner endeavors to make a follow-up to a story that simply can’t have one. I made the same mistake myself, for I had not yet met Dana Marschz (Steve Coogan).
Marschz (it’s pronounced “marshht-s,” I think) is a failed actor,

The laughs begin with the ex cellent title "Hamlet 2" - and they end there. This film was the comedy sensation of the Sundance Film Festival, which was an early warning sign.
Steve Coogan "stars" - or rather, makes silly faces and falls down frequently - as a high-school theater teacher in Tucson, Ariz., who, with a cast of surly teens, writes a sequel to "Hamlet" in an effort to save the drama department. The always-abrasive Catherine Keener plays his abrasive girlfriend abrasively, and David Arquette, as their roommate, literally

DVD Links: Release Dates | New Dvds | Reviews | RSS Feed Dexter - The Complete Second Season I already reviewed this second season of Showtime's "Dexter" and offered up quite a bit of praise, but as I say in my review, if you are interested in getting started with this show about a Miami blood splatter specialist doubling as a serial killer I recommend you first check out the first season because this is a show you don't want to jump into in the middle. If you have a Netflix Roku player you can check it out in the Instant Play as I did. Quick, easy and simple. I am not sure if this is a show you will want to buy however. As much as I enjoyed my time watching it, the second season character Lila played by Jaime Murray really hurts any chance of watching it over and over again.

Edward Douglas over at ComingSoon.net talked to actor Steve Coogan about his upcoming comedy "Hamlet 2," which opens Aug. 27, 2008. You can read and watch the interview right here.
In the interview, Coogan discusses his character Dana Marschz, a failed actor-turned teacher who must put on an awesome play in order to prevent the school board from cancelling drama. Here's a snippet of what he had to tell ComingSoon:
"Sure, there's lots of little improvised ideas, like me getting my pants off and stuff like that. That wasn't in the script. I thought if I could get a laugh, I'd do it, so stuff like that was improvised."
"Hamlet 2" is directed by Andrew Fleming and co-stars Catherine Keener, Melonie Diaz and Amy Poehler. Click here to check out the full interview.

This week finds Shakespeare meeting Sexy Jesus, a crash course in Czech history alongside a totalitarian demolition derby, apocalyptic sea monsters and Fred Durst trying to get in touch with his fuzzy side.
"Cthulhu"
Director Dan Gildark certainly isn't lacking for confidence. Whereas most first-time filmmakers would turn to the well-worn territory of twentysomethings and their quirky quarterlife crises for subject matter, Gildark has opted to tackle H.P Lovecraft's sprawling, heady, quasi-religious mythos from the short story "Shadow over Innsmouth" instead. Jason Cottle stars as Russ, a history professor who returns home to Oregon to execute his late mother's will and discovers his father is the leader of the coastal town's apocalyptic cult that centers on the fabled Cthulhu, an extraterrestrial deity that exists in a state of torpor at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. When Russ learns a mass sacrifice may be in the offing,

The Toronto International Film Festival keeps bringing the pain with the announcement of 20 new films as part of it's special presentations lineup. I really wish I could hit the fest, but ahh well. The films which really interest me are John Crowley's (Boy A) Is There Anybody There? which is about " an unlikely friendship between a scruffy former magician and a little boy with a morbid streak. Ten year-old Edward has become increasingly obsessed with death and the afterlife since his parents turned their house into a retirement home. Edward's is a lonely and peculiar existence – until he meets Clarence who introduces him to wonders in the here-and-now." Hints of Harold and Maude? Next is Bruno Baretto's Last Stop 174 , about "young Sandro who lives in the slums of Rio de Janeiro where corruption and violence are the norm. Orphaned, alienated and fearing for his life, Sandro falls into a life

If there's one thing that Shakespeare's Hamlet desperately needed was a musical number titled "Rock Me, Sexy Jesus" and realizing this, writer/director Andrew Fleming created the comedy Hamlet 2, in which Steve Coogan plays a failed actor turned high school teacher who produces the aforementioned sequel with the aforementioned musical number. Catherine Keener, Melonie Diaz, David Arquette, Elisabeth Shue and Amy Poehler co-star as people who are equal parts mesmerized and horrified by this play. Check out the new poster below. Hamlet gets an infusion of pizzaz on August 27th.

Hollywood stars Benicio Del Toro and Catherine Keener are secretly dating, according to reports.
The pair was spotted enjoying a meal together at Los Angeles restaurant Green Door last week - and onlookers claimed love was in the air.
A fellow diner tells Ok! magazine, "He whispered into her ear, and she listened with rapt attention. He brushed his hand on her back. They had nice chemistry."
Keener divorced husband of 17 years Dermot Mulroney in 2007. Single Del Toro has never married.

Barry Levinson’s upcoming comedy “What Just Happened?” premiered at Cannes last May, but critics didn’t exactly give the film the warm welcome everyone expected. As far as the story is concerned, the flick stars Robert De Niro as a Hollywood producer who struggles with his personal life and his work. Bruce Willis, Stanley Tucci, John Turturro and Catherine Keener co-star.
Above you can check out the first trailer for the movie, which is scheduled to open Oct. 3, 2008. Although the basic story line sure sounds interesting, the footage here didn’t really win me over. I know critics always react a lot meaner to new flicks at Cannes (don’t ask me why), but what I’ve read so far about “What Just Happened?” doesn’t sound all too exciting. Feel free to comment on the trailer just below.

I'm pretty excited to see how the careers of Michael Cera and Kat Dennings play out. He, of course, is George Michael Bluth, and I don't care if he's 50, that's never going to change. But aside from Arrested Development, Cera has been great in Superbad and Juno.
She impressed me by holding her own with Robert Downey Jr. and Anton Yelchin in Charlie Bartlett earlier this year, but you would more than likely know her as Catherine Keener's daughter in The 40-Year-Old Virgin. I think both of them will be around a long time, and Cera has one of the more unique subtly comedic delivery in show business, even if he is only 20.
Together, they're the Nick and Norah in the upcoming comedy Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. I can only hope the character names are a tip of the hat by the authors of the book, Rachel Cohn and David Levithan,

Moviefone has just debuted the trailer for What Just Happened? starring a whole shit load of people, but primarily Robert De Niro, Catherine Keener and Bruce Willis. This film has done terribly at just about every film festival it has been to and after watching the trailer I am getting the idea it isn't because it is necessarily a bad film as much as it looks like a film no one would be interested in seeing. The film is based on Art Linson's memoir about his experiences as a Hollywood producer and De Niro plays a Linson-like producer who is going through two weeks of hell as he tries to get a picture made. Bruce Willis plays a fat-beared version of himself and it is apparently supposed to be funny... I think... It is set to hit theaters on October 3 as Magnolia has shown the balls to release it,

Photo: Focus Features If you had looked at my email Inbox over the past three weeks there is one movie title you would have seen dominating the subject line in many of the emails I received, Hamlet 2 from Focus Features. I have been offered numerous giveaways including movie paraphernalia and tickets to the San Diego Comic Con screening with the RopeofSilicon logo on them. There are clips, pictures and interviews abound. I actually was supposed to interview Steve Coogan on Tuesday, but a cell phone mishap forced me to have to cancel. Contests, interviews and pictures aside, it wasn't until this past Monday that I realized what all the fuss was about. I was wondering why Focus was pushing this film so much harder than anything else in recent memory. There was a Hamlet 2 party at Comic Con, a screening at Comic Con and they hired a team

Ryan Gosling made his deejay debut Tuesday night at Green Door lounge in Hollywood, with a surprising guest in the crowd – his ex-girlfriend Rachel McAdams. Arriving at 9 p.m., the actor settled into what is said to be a weekly gig at the lounge's Tuesday jazz night. McAdams arrived later "supporting Ryan," says a Gosling pal. "They talked when he was away from the deejay stand," says the friend. "They really looked like good pals. He seemed happy to see her." For Gosling, deejaying is "a pretty new thing for him," says the friend. "He's been messing around. He's really into music,
