His son Jacob Max Bergman is a graduate of University of Michigan and New York University Law School and is a lawyer in the Medicaid fraud control unit of the state attorney general's office in New York. Jacob married Gina Marie Hamadey on 8 September 2007. Son Teddy Bergman is co-founder/artistic director of Woodshed Collective, a theater company based in New York City.

Graduated from Harpur College [now Binghamton University] in 1965.
