Interview: Larry Bishop on "Hell Ride"

7 August 2008 6:52 PM, PDT | From ifc.com | See recent IFC news

By Aaron Hillis

Born in Philadelphia and raised in New Jersey, Larry Bishop (son of Rat Pack comic Joey Bishop) began his acting career after high school, working in comedy with friends like Rob Reiner and Richard Dreyfuss. Though he's guest-starred on TV sitcoms like "Laverne & Shirley," "I Dream of Jeannie" and "Barney Miller," Bishop is far better known for being a drive-in theater badass, appearing as an American International Pictures contract player in wild-and-wooly biker flicks like 1968's "The Savage Seven" and 1971's "Chrome and Hot Leather." On an acting hiatus after 1983 (more on that later), Bishop returned to the screen in the mid-'90s with new credits to his name, writing the script for "Underworld" and making his directorial debut, "Mad Dog Time."

Enter exploitation film guru Quentin Tarantino. Understandably a fan of Bishop's Aip years, Tarantino cast him in a bit part for the second volume of "Kill Bill,

4 August 2008 6:15 AM, PDT | From PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news

The All-American Rejects have a "dirty little secret" – they're milk drinkers! The rock quartet, best known for the top 10 single "Dirty Little Secret," recently joined the likes of David Beckham, Beyoncé, Martha Stewart, Muhammad Ali and Mike Myers as Austin Powers among the milk-mustachioed stars who have appeared in the "Got Milk?" ads. "They're all very iconic," rhythm guitarist Mike Kennerty tells People. "It's definitely a big deal. The only thing bigger than 'got Milk?' are those T-shirts that rip off the saying by asking 'got' something else."Lead singer-bassist Tyson Ritter says of the shoot by revered celebrity photographer Annie Leibowitz,

More Hollywood Brilliance: Will Smith Was Offered Superman

5 July 2008 11:16 AM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

Wow… things have actually been pretty quite here on the “tear Hollywood a new one” front, but this story puts the powers that be right in my sights once again. According to a recent interview with Will Smith, he was offered the iconic role of Superman in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns before it was offered to Brandon Routh.

Thankfully, Smith had the presence of mind to turn it down.

According to MTV:

“There is no way I’m playing Superman!’ Because I had already done Jim West [of 'Wild Wild West'], and you can’t be messing up white people’s heroes in Hollywood! You mess up white people’s heroes in Hollywood, you’ll never work in this town again!”

Well, I don’t know about never working in Hollywood again, but would there be an outcry?

Are you kidding?

The only thing I’d like to know is what brilliant Hollywood mind floated that idea?

Smith: 'I'm Not A Scientologist'

18 March 2008 9:13 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Will Smith has hit back at claims he and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith have been recruited by the Church of Scientology.

Recent reports claimed the couple had started following the controversial faith, on the advice of close pals Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

But Smith insists he chooses to study religions, without subscribing to any one.

He says, "You don't have to be Jewish to be a friend of Steven Spielberg. You don't have to be a Muslim to be a friend of Muhammad Ali. And you don't have to be a Scientologist to be a friend of Tom Cruise. I am a Christian. I am a student of all religions. And I respect all people and all paths."

A spokesman for Smith adds, "As Will Smith's publicist I can tell you with 100 per cent certainty that Will is not a Scientologist."

Just because you're friends with Tom Cruise, doesn't mean you're a Scientologist. So says Will Smith, who's denying recent reports – including Radar magazine's April cover story – which claim he's been increasingly involved with the controversial religion. "You don't have to be Jewish to be a friend of Steven Spielberg. You don't have to be a Muslim to be a friend of Muhammad Ali. And you don't have to be a Scientologist to be a friend of Tom Cruise," the actor told the New York Daily News Tuesday. "I am a Christian," the 39-year-old added. "I am a student of all religions.

Snipes Court Hearing Begins

15 January 2008 | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Movie star Wesley Snipes kicked off his tax fraud and conspiracy trial in Ocala, Florida on Monday. The Blade star's legal team interviewed almost 70 potential character witnesses as jury selection began. The bizarre list of names included boxing legend Muhammad Ali, moviemaker Spike Lee, Sylvester Stallone and Snipes' White Men Can't Jump co-star Woody Harrelson. Snipes, 45, stands accused of conspiring to defraud the U.S. of millions of dollars in 2000 as part of a conspiracy scheme with co-defendants Eddie Ray Kahn and Douglas Rosile, and then failing to file tax returns. Opening arguments in the trial are expected to start on Tuesday. Snipes faces up to 16 years in prison if convicted. He recently failed in his bid to move proceedings from Ocala, after insisting the townsfolk were racist, and he wouldn't be able to get a fair hearing. Before appearing in court, Snipes took part in a vigil with the leaders of several predominantly black churches, who then followed the actor to court.
