Last night in Pasadena stars came out to grace the red carpet and stage at the 2008 Alma Awards. Once again, Eva Longoria played host for the night and showed off a few costume changes like she did at last year's awards. Jessica Alba didn't have Cash with her to gaze lovingly like Eva and Tony, but she lit up the red carpet all the same continuing her smiley weekend. America Ferrera took home Entertainer of the Year while Shakira was named Humanitarian of the Year. Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale were on hand to present a special achievement award to High School Musical 2 director Kenny Ortega. Some of our favorite shows like Ugly Betty, Scrubs, Lost, and How I Met Your Mother were also honored at the event, check out the full list of winners here. The show airs Sept. 12 on ABC. New Kids on the Block have saved the "Today" show from embarrassment - gallantly replacing Paula Abdul on the show's summer concert series.
"Today" announced last week that Abdul had backed out of her scheduled Aug. 29 appearance - for the second time this season.
Abdul was originally booked to perform her new single, "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow," in April - but canceled and was then rescheduled for Aug. 29.
She backed out again last Friday, citing " 'American Idol' commitments."
"Today" then turned around and booked the newly refurbished Kids.
The group, first assembled in 1984, has sold over 70 million albums worldwide,

Paula Abdul wore out her welcome for good with the "Today" show. Abdul was supposed to perform her single "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow" on the morning show's concert series in April. She canceled that gig because of "production commitments," but rescheduled for Aug. 29. On Fri day, she canceled that show as well due to " 'American Idol' commitments." But one source said, "Please. She can't per form live. Her voice on the single is so mixed and electro nicized you don't know what she really sounds like any more." Abdul's reps didn't return calls.

Singer-turned-reality TV star Paula Abdul has sparked rumours of a reunion with ex-boyfriend J.T. Torregiani.
Abdul, 46, split from the 33-year-old restaurateur in May, blaming the break-up on their hectic work schedules.
But the pair was spotted going to the cinema together in Sherman Oaks, California last week (ends25Jul08), prompting speculation they have rekindled their romance.
A source close to the American Idol judge tells People.com, "They're taking it slow, testing the waters. They've gone on a few friendly dates."
The insider adds Torregiani "wants to date her again. Jt thinks she's a sweetheart. They have good chemistry."

"They're taking it slow, testing the waters," says the pal of the pair, who were spotted catching a movie together in Sherman Oaks, Calif., last weekend. "They've gone on a few friendly dates." The American Idol judge and the owner of several Hollywood hotspots dated for more than a year before splitting in May. A rep for Torregiani blamed their hectic work schedules for the breakup. Fox continued to hint that it is planning to make changes to American Idol when it returns in January in order to recapture some of the audience it lost in early episodes last season. But Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly told reporters at the summer TV Critics Assn. press tour that judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul will all be back. Conspicuous by his absence in the list of announced returnees was Idol host Ryan Seacrest, who clashed frequently with Cowell last season. In May, Cowell, who is also a producer of Idol, told reporters to expect "a big shake-up" in the show next season, arousing immediate speculation that the $12.5-million host of the talent contest may be getting the hook himself. Also on Monday, Reilly expressed concern about the current state of TV comedy. "I can't even go to the platitude of 'it's cyclical, it's going to come back,'" he said. "A lot of confidence has left the creative space on a day-to-day basis. I see really talented people coming in, very skittish, not knowing what to pitch and what will sell. I see executives trying to figure out where is that nerve to hit."

American Idol judge Randy Jackson celebrated his 52nd birthday on Saturday - and was given a "barbaric-looking sword" from fellow reality show judge Simon Cowell.
The former bass player and producer welcomed celebrities including actress Rosario Dawson and dancer Karina Smirnoff to the party at Tao Las Vegas - but was left baffled by the present from the British music mogul.
Cowell wasn't on hand to give Jackson the gift personally - and the TV personality is unsure of what to do with the unusual present.
He says, "I don't know what part of me he wants to cut off, but that's a whole 'nother thing."
But the star is holding out for a more conventional gift from fellow judge and singer Paula Abdul.
He adds, "Paula has not given me anything yet but I think I know what she's getting me. I was talking to her last week so she knows what I want. It will be something I can use instead of looking at and saying, 'What the hell is this?'"

After more than a year of dating, Paula Abdul and her restaurateur boyfriend Jt Torregiani have split due to their hectic work schedules, his rep tells People exclusively. "It became too hard to maintain the relationship," says Torregiani's rep, who adds: "They remain best of friends." The couple began dating in 2006 and were spotted last June celebrating her 45th birthday together at Torregiani's West Hollywood eatery, Ketchup, where he spent the entire night by her side. Last summer, Abdul described her romantic life to Today show host Matt Lauer as "a horror movie" but noted that "things are looking good right now.

Paula Abdul has brushed off rumours that she was drunk during this week's episode of American Idol.

According to Tmz, Abdul was spotted looking "bubbly" following "at least one martini" at an La restaurant just four hours before the show.
Explaining her actions, the judge said: . . .

Producers have denied that American Idol's credibility has been damaged by a blunder from Paula Abdul.
The judge mistakenly gave feedback on two performances from contestant Jason Castro when he had only sung once on the show.
After making the error, Abdul initially claimed that she had just mixed up her notes. However, she revealed on Wednesday during a radio interview that she had actually seen Castro perform his second song in rehearsals.
Commentators have argued that the mistake undermines the show's premise that the singers' fates rest on their live performances. Others have questioned whether the judges actually have their comments scripted.

American Idol star Paula Abdul is desperate to show off her dancing skills as part of hit U.S. TV show Dancing With The Stars.
The Straight Up singer approached Dancing host Tom Bergeron during the first elimination round on the sixth season of the celebrity talent contest, and went public with her plans.
Bergeron reveals, "She said she'd really like to be part of season seven... She said, 'I have no ballroom training; obviously I've been a choreographer... and I'd love to be part of it... I can do this.'
"She was serious and we had one of our top executives there and I said, 'Paula Abdul wants to do season seven of Dancing With The Stars,' and she said, 'That's a great idea.'"
Illusionist Penn Jillette and former tennis ace Monica Seles were voted off the show on Tuesday night.

Beatles Week...again! I'll take more Beatles anytime, no complaints. American Idol is down to its Top 11, and the field is still wide open. That is, if you assume (like I optimistically do) that America will eventually come to their senses and stop blindly handing votes to David Archuleta (“Flubbed lines, awkward singing, vacuum-like stage presence – who cares? He's cute!”). It's another historic night for American Idol, what with the second week in a row of legalized Lennon/McCartney song poaching. I'm looking forward to the show and am hoping that some of the singers learn from the mistakes of last week (I'm looking at you Kristy Lee Cook). No more ruined Beatles songs, please. I'll be here throughout the night, giving updates as the episode rolls along. Remember to refresh and comment below to let your opinions be heard.

American Idol judge Paula Abdul is struggling to work alongside her fellow panelist Simon Cowell - because she is harbouring a secret crush for the music mogul.
The Grammy-winning singer/choreographer admits she subconsciously fancies the British star - dubbed Tv's Mr Nasty - even though she finds his sharp-tongued comments hard to take.
The 44-year-old says, "Just when you think we're all getting on, Simon turns and we get back into our little quarrels. I suppose it's quite funny to watch, but he's so infuriating.
"Maybe ( I fancy Cowell). Subconsciously. In a really weird, Freudian way. We have a good work balance. We've all had moments where we've walked off because of Simon, but he's even walked off because of himself."

Singer Paula Abdul wants to settle down and start a family by 2013 - but won't hesitate to adopt if she doesn't find the right man in time.
The 44-year-old star, who is currently dating restaurateur J.T. Torregiani, is desperate for kids of her own and has resigned herself to the fact that adoption is a more likely option.
She tells Britain's Now magazine, "I do (want children). I'll probably adopt because I think it'll be in the next three to five years. I wouldn't necessarily adopt from abroad like some celebs. I just want a healthy baby."
Abdul has been married twice, but didn't have children with either actor Emilio Estevez or her second husband Brad Beckerman. Both unions were brief - she split from The Breakfast Club star in 1994 after only two years of marriage, while her 1996 union with sportswear designer Beckerman ended in divorce in 1998.
