Top 15 Performances in a Woody Allen Film

Here are my 15 favorite performances in a Woody Allen film: 15) Rebecca Hall [9] - Vicky Cristina Barcelona [10] (2008) Hall is reminiscent of Kate Winslet [11] in that she can convey multiple emotions with astounding subtlety. Many consider Vicky to be the first female Woody Allen character. On paper maybe, but Hall turns the role into so much more, perfectly relating the character's fears and her longing to make life exciting and meaningful.

Pinkfacialization: Bruno/Humpday

10 July 2009 10:00 AM, PDT | From Vanity Fair | See recent Vanity Fair news

What is it with straight guys? First they try to muscle in on our monopoly on ball shaving, then they try to claim Michael Jackson and Farrah for themselves when all they did to either of them during their lives was beat them up (both figuratively and literally), and now they’re out to colonize our very gayness on film. And I’m not talking about Sean Penn fucking James Franco to tell the story of a gay hero. I’m down with that. I’m talking about two movies that come out today: Bruno and Humpday, both of which attempt to lay claim to homosexuality as a “topic”.

In Response to John Ensign

9 July 2009 1:00 PM, PDT | From Vanity Fair | See recent Vanity Fair news

July, 2009 John: Thanks to Google Alerts, I saw your apology note to Cindy Hampton where you mentioned me not once, not twice, but eight times. Why’d you drag me into your sordid sex scandal? You even admit, “God never intended for us to do this.” That’s right, buddy. I gave you Ten Commandments and Two of them warn against doing exactly what you did: (1) Thou shall not commit adultery; and, (2) Thou shall not covet your neighbor's wife. (You and the Hamptons all lived in Summerlin, right?) So you ignore my laws and then claim, “I know He loves me + I know He loves you.” Don’t put words in my mouth. Maybe I’m not as free with my love as you are with yours. And don’t be so certain when you say, “I know He wants to restore Darlene and me + wants to restore Doug and you.

The Gist: Written by Malick, this is about the evolution of a young man in 1950s Midwest to his disillusioned adult adulthood. We trace the evolution of an eleven-year-old boy in the Midwest, Jack, one of three brothers. At first all seems marvelous to the child. He sees as his mother does, with the eyes of his soul. She represents the way of love and mercy, where the father (Brad Pitt) tries to teach his son the world's way, of putting oneself first. Each parent contends for his allegiance, and Jack must reconcile their claims. The picture darkens as he has his first glimpses of sickness, suffering and death. The world, once a thing of glory,

Robin Wright Penn Discredits The Modeling She Did Earlier In Her Life

5 July 2009 11:18 PM, PDT | From icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news

Robin Wright Penn thinks modelling "f**ked" her up. The 43-year-old "Private Lives of Pippa Lee" star hated her experiences of attending casting calls in her late teens and early 20s, and says getting her first acting job in a commercial "saved" her life.

She said: "It was destructive to the self-esteem. It f***ed me up. Big time. I'd hear the most awful things, like, 'Her legs aren't long enough. Her t*ts aren't big enough. Next!' There's no respect for you as a human being. You're a commodity."

While Robin - who has two children with her husband, "Milk" actor Sean Penn - hated her younger career, one of her biggest highlights was being a member of this year's prestigious Cannes film festival jury to decide which movies would be given awards.

She added: "It was one of the greatest experiences I've had, watching two or three movies every day,

Johnny Depp’s ‘Public Enemies’ Delivers Bona Fide Chicago Powerhouse

1 July 2009 2:53 PM, PDT | From HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news

Chicago – Was John Dillinger an Adolf Hitler-level criminal mastermind or a modern-day Robin Hood superman? In the authentic reality portrayed by the god-like Johnny Depp in the Chicago-filmed “Public Enemies,” he’s a little bit of both for blockbuster filmmaker Michael Mann.

Unfortunately, Depp’s nemesis – special agent Melvin Purvis as played by “The Dark Knight” mainstay Christian Bale – falls flat. Bale rolls through the motions with a monotone and monotonous role that needed the tension of a World War conflict rather than a rubber band.

Rating: 4.0/5.0 The French actress Marion Cotillard, on the other hand, delivers yet another intoxicating performance as Billie Frechette this time in a supporting role. We’re reminded why she ever-so-definitely deserved her 2008 Oscar for so absolutely embodying Edith Piaf in 2007’s “La Vie en Rose”.

Leelee Sobieski is thrown in toward the end as the downplayed character Polly Hamilton in a relatively wasted and unnecessary cameo.

HSM: Where They Are Now!

25 June 2009 11:15 AM, PDT | From PopStar | See recent PopStar news

As the graduation checks pile high on your bedroom nightstand, you reflect back on a time that was perfectly innocent and you ponder the unknown. What will college be like, what will work be like, will I still keep in touch with my high school friends in five years? All very valid questions and depending on each circumstance, they will vary. There is one group of high school students we fell in love with a few years back and today we are checking in on them to see where their lives have gone and if they still stay in touch with one another. The students of East High changed the way we looked at clicks, changed the way we looked at musicals, and changed the way we looked at ourselves. For three consecutive years, High School Musical ruled the airwaves and the box office as it broke records, set records,

Ed McMahon, Rip: The infamous Johnny Carson sidekick has sadly passed away. At the age of 86 Ed McMahon died on June 23rd, 2009 at the Ronald Reagan/UCLA Medical Center. Recently, McMahon has had many health problems, including pneumonia. Not only has the public been made aware in the decline of McMahon’s health, they have also known about his money problems; including his battle to pay his mortgage, costing him approximately $644,000 debt with the bank, and then being sued by numerous insurance companies, which was later reached in a settlement for $7million. Thankfully enough, the public will always remember Ed McMahon as the cheerful and laughable subordinate to Carson. Let’s hear it one last time for remembrance sake: “Heeeeeeeeeeeere’s Johnny!” Antichrist the Video Game: Director Lars Von Trier’s latest flop film that was laughed at during it’s screening at Cannes Film Festival will become a video game.

We have to say, we can't think of anyone who would know this better than the wife of Sean Penn. Sean and Robin have announced their decision to separate twice in recent months - before taking it back both times. It's life. We go through it, if we're married long enough. If you're lucky you grow and you ...

Giamatti Distances Himself From Three Stooges Rumours

23 June 2009 9:20 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Paul Giamatti has dismissed rumours he's set to replace Sean Penn in upcoming comedy The Three Stooges after he was tipped for the role by co-director Bobby Farrelly himself.

Oscar winner Penn quit the project last week (begs15Jun09), in addition to forthcoming drama Cartel, after announcing he was taking a break from his movie career to spend more time with his family and work on his troubled marriage to actress Robin Wright Penn.

Giamatti emerged the favourite to step into the role of Larry Fine alongside Benicio Del Toro and Jim Carrey, after Farrelly admitted the actor would make a "sensational Larry".

However, Bobby's brother Peter Farrelly confessed they'd already offered the part to another star - although he refused to reveal any names.

The Sideways star's representative has also denied Giamatti will be signing on to the movie project, telling E! News columnist Marc Malkin there have been no talks between the two parties.

"All marriages have their cycles and phases," she said forebodingly. •  Paris Hilton was peeved when her bodyguards supposedly found some sort of recording transmitter in her Dubai hotel room. Apparently, after Sean Penn dropped out of The Three Stooges movie (as Larry Fine opposite Benicio Del Toro and Jim Carrey), Paul Giamatti might be the actor to take his place. When asked about it, director Bobby Farrelly mused that Giamatti would be a "sensational Larry". Sean Penn is one of my favorite actors so it's tough to say that anyone will be able to successfully fill his shoes. That said, Paul Giamatti has a kind, wise face and that makes me feel more comfortable. Does...
