B-d reader Mark G. sent us in an e-mail this evening telling us that he recently attending a special screening of Piranha 3D in Paramus, NJ. While we haven't confirmed the validity of the screening, and we're unsure if it was shown in 3-D, below you can read his thoughts on Alex Aja's latest genre pic, which he describes as " by far the Bloodiest movie I've ever seen." One of the coolest things we stumbled across at this year's Afm are the first ever images from Alex Aja's (High Tension, Mirrors, The Hills Have Eyes) 3-D remake of Piranha 3D. Beyond the break you'll witness mayhem in bloody waters, along with your first look as Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws)! After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the areas new razor-toothed residents. Tiff '09: Dante Reveals 'Piranha' 3D Work Done in Post!

Some shocking news came out of the Tiff screening of The Hole 3D when a fan asked Joe Dante why he didn't direct Dimension's Piranha 3D remake. Dancing off of the idiotic question, Dante somehow flipped the conversation onto the way Alex Aja filmed it, revealing that it's not actually shot in 3D. The iconic director, whose film The Hole was shot on set in 3D, explained that Aja filmed the remake with one camera and will be digitally making it 3D in post, while adding CGI piranha that will be "Pixar-like 3D." How does that make you feel? Kinda hurts, doesn't it? I guess we'll see how good 2D-turned-3D looks come April 16, 2010. Some really last minute casting news coming out of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, as a resident of the famed Wysteria Lane heads out to become chummy with some angry prehistoric fish!
Variety reports that "Desperate Housewives" star Ricardo Chavira has signed up to star in Aja's remake of Piranha, joining the already announced Elisabeth Shue, Adam Scott, Ving Rhames, Richard Dreyfuss, Dina Meyer, Brooklynn Proulx, Quinn Lord, Riley Steele, Jessica Szohr, Jerry O'Connell, Paul Scheer, Cody Longo, Riley Steele, Eli Roth, and dozens of drunk half-naked victims.
No word yet on whom Chavira will be playing, but I'm sure that tidbit of info will slither out soon enough.
Look for the flick to be jumping off the screen in 3D in 2010!

• Dustin Hoffman has joined Paul Giamatti in Richard J. Lewis' indie drama "Barney's Version," based on the novel by Mordecai Richler. According to Variety, "Gossip Girl"’s Jessica Szohr has been added to the Piranha 3D cast, playing a local girl enjoying spring break in her small town when all hell breaks loose.
Directed by Alex (High Tension) Aja, Szohr joins fellow cast members Elisabeth Shue, Adam Scott, Ving Rhames, Dina Meyer and Richard Dreyfuss.
Szhor’s previous genre credit is the 2006 horror flick The House At The End of The Drive. Look for more on this flick soon!

Man, when the folks behind Aja's remake of Piranha put out a casting call for beautiful people, they really weren't kidding! A hot little press release just showed up in our inbox announcing that porn star Riley Steele has nabbed herself a lead role in the upcoming redux of the 1978 cult classic!
