Birthday Bash: Impossible Missions, Punch-Outs And Red Carpet Antics Are Causes For Celebration

29 June 2009 7:00 AM, PDT | From MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news

Just as everyone has an opinion, a favorite meal and a nose — albeit a fake one at times — so too does everyone have a birthday. Even celebrities. Here at Birthday Bash, it’s my mission to salute the fine actors, filmmakers and other Hollywood heroes that are celebrating their special day this week. After all, it’s cheaper than mailing a cake.

This week is jam-packed with birthday celebrations — so many, in fact, that I just couldn’t include them all. Still, there are some personalities who I found impossible to ignore…

Gary Busey (June 29): The current generation of moviegoers might only know Gary Busey for bear-hugging and smooching Jennifer Garner on the 2008 Academy Awards red carpet, or perhaps for his stint on “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.” But there’s a plethora of Busey performances that are truly must-see fare, such as his turns as Mr. Joshua in “Lethal Weapon,

Exclusive Interview: The Proposal Director Anne Fletcher

15 June 2009 3:10 PM, PDT | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

Before Anne Fletcher was the director of hit movies like 27 Dresses and Step Up, before she was the guiding presence on set whom everyone called "Mama," she was that girl who was up for anything. She started her career as a dancer, making her screen debut in 1994's The Flintstones, and remembers getting tossed around by Chris Farley and usually doing whatever ridiculous thing the scene called for, thanks to her real ambition to be a comedian. Speaking as a director now, she says, "I love working with actors, because I wanted to be one so badly. But I also had this ability to dance. I came here to Los Angeles to dance, and I would end up dancing in comic things. I was always the comic go-to girl." And she says that when working with Sandra Bullock on The Proposal (Fletcher calls her Sandy), Fletcher told her leading actress

Black Sheep - Blu-ray Review

27 May 2009 8:35 AM, PDT | From Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news

Black Sheep would mark the second pairing of Chris Farley and David Spade and would also be the last, but maybe you saw the film the year before when it was called Tommy Boy? Al Donnelly (Tim Matheson) is running for governor of Washington against incumbent Evelyn Tracy (Christine Ebersole). His brother Mike (Chris Farley) is campaigning hard for his brother. Perhaps a little too hard as the hapless Mike is turning off more voters than he.s bringing in. Al.s campaign manager Roger (Timothy Carhart) advises him to dump his brother, but Al assigns Steve Dodds (David Spade) to mind his brother in exchange for a spot on Al.s gubernatorial staff. The two still have all sorts

[DVD Review] Wayne's World

22 May 2009 1:58 AM, PDT | From JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news

Wayne’s World is a product of American pop-culture – and it’s deliciously aware of that fact. Spurned by a character from Saturday Night Live (earlier considering Mike Myers was using the personality in his Canada days), Wayne Campbell references movies, consumer culture and everything else in a narrative mixed with soliloquies. Imagine Ferris Bueller’s talk-to-the-camera antics but without the smugness of a character who knows he’s about to have his best day off ever. Wayne Campbell is the everyman trying to live out a life slightly beyond his means.

Wayne Campbell (Myers) and Garth Algar (Dana Carvey) host a public access television show from the basement of Wayne’s parents’ home. Allowed to do whatever they wish with their show, Wayne and Garth find that the one thing limiting their show is the budget. Enter the greedy producer. Benjamin Kane (Rob Lowe) stumbles across the late night,

Dan Aykroyd Gives Ghostbusters 3 Updates!

21 May 2009 5:30 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

It’s been twenty years since we last saw Venkman, Stantz, Spengler, and Zeddemore don the gray jumpsuits, strap on the proton packs and kick some other-worldly butt. I vividly remember seeing both films in the theater when I was ten and thirteen. I also seem to vividly remember the Sigourney Weaver bathtub scene from Ghostbusters 2 (don’t act like you don’t know the one I’m talking about).

Talks of a third installment have been floating on the internet boards for years now and I for one, have been looking forward to it since the speculation began. For a while, the rumors were that Chris Farley was in talks to join the cast. Obviously with his passing that did not occur, but that was as close as anyone got to making Ghostbusters 3 a reality… until now.

When I heard that Sigourney Weaver may not be involved in the next film,

[DVD Review] Black Sheep

19 May 2009 9:24 PM, PDT | From JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news

Following so closely on the heels of Tommy Boy that audiences had little time to breathe, Black Sheep tried to cram another heaping serving of the Chris Farley and David Spade buddy comedy down our throats. The forced second serving however, never comes close to the tasty comedy morsels of its predecessor. Instead we get stale jokes, ineffective slapstick and a plot that’s so horribly half-assed it’s surprising Black Sheep was made as a movie instead of a series of 25 vignettes. What really shears all the comedic fluff off the back of Black Sheep is the poorly used chemistry of Spade and Farley. The formula that produced the ever-classic lines “Shut-up, Richard”, “Niner? Did I hear a niner in there?” and “You’re brain has a thick candy shell” gets left by the wayside in favor of a far-too cohesive friendship based more out of mutual distraction than disgust.

Comedy Blu-Ray Round Up, May 12, 2009: ‘Major League,’ ‘Wayne's World,’ ‘Black Sheep’

12 May 2009 9:07 AM, PDT | From HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news

Chicago – Paramount Home Video is unleashing waves of catalog titles this month, starting with an interesting quintet of laugh-fests that range wildly in subject matter and quality.

What do they have in common? Well, three are from the “Saturday Night Live” factory - “Wayne’s World,” “Wayne’s World 2,” and “Black Sheep,” but the other two are not. Those three are also from the ’90s, another tempting way to bunch these random titles together, but “Major League” is an ’80s comedy and “Without a Paddle” is from the ’00s.

Even quality levels seem like an inappropriate way to lump these titles together as even diehard fans couldn’t claim that Chris Farley’s “Black Sheep” or the silly “Paddle” should stand next to “Wayne’s World” or the beloved “Major League”.

Why even try and lump them together? They’re all comedies. They’re all Paramount. Anyone can find at

Moranis Back for Ghostbusters 3

6 April 2009 2:23 AM, PDT | From DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news

All this Ghostbusters 3 news is just gettin' me giddy, man! We knew all the original Busters we're coming back for more, but according to an interview with Entertainment Weekly Rick Moranis will be back in slime too!

Dig it!

"Earlier this week at ShoWest, Sony Pictures' Rory Bruer confirmed long-circulating rumors that the studio was pursuing a third installment of Ghostbusters. You won't hear Harold Ramis contradicting him. According to Ramis, who cowrote and starred in the first two Ghostbusters, a third journey into the comedic supernatural is in the cards. And yes, the original cast will return: Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis, and even the elusive Bill Murray. "Everybody said they'd do it," says Ramis, who doesn't intend to direct Ghostbusters III. "They’ll be looking at younger actors [for the lead roles], I’m sure. But we’ll be in it as mentors or advisers. I think the first one captured

Rick Moranis to Return for Ghostbusters 3

4 April 2009 12:00 PM, PDT | From WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news

Sony Pictures has recently announced the third "Ghostbusters" film. Now Harold Ramis, who co-wrote and starred in the first two installments, sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about it, confirming that the entire original cast will return. That cast includes, himself, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray and even Rick Moranis, who hasn't appeared in a movie since 1997. "Everybody said they'd do it," said Ramis. "They'll be looking at younger actors [for the lead roles], I'm sure. But we'll be in it as mentors or advisers." To move forward with the new film, Ramis said that "everyone's gonna have to love the script." Unfortunately, it will be a while before anyone even sees it. Gene Stupinksy and Lee Eisenberg, the exec-producers of "The Office" are currently working on a draft, but because "they work full-time on 'The Office,' the script process is slow," said Ramis. "Even if there was a great

Harold Ramis Talks ‘Ghostbusters 3′

29 March 2009 7:15 AM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

If ever there were a movie franchise that we all want to see continue, whether that be admittedly or deep down, it would be Ghostbusters. In the fall of last year, it was confirmed that the third film was moving forward with Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky hired to write the script.

About five weeks ago, Internet rumors were abound that comedy man of the minute, Judd Apatow, was going to head the production of Ghostbusters 3 - possibly because of Eisenberg and Stupnitsky writing both that and the Apatow-produced Year One. As it turns out, Apatow will not be involved in any way with the film which might be a good thing since his style doesn’t really fit all that well with what Ghostbusters essentially is.

To step things back into a more believable, “more than rumor” light, MTV News got a chance to speak to Ghostbusters writer/actor

Harold Ramis Gives Ghostbusters 3 Status

28 March 2009 12:00 PM, PDT | From WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news

MTV News caught up with Harold Ramis about his new comedy "Year One" and also asked about the status of the third "Ghostbusters" film. "We're all going to be in it in different kinds of roles," said Ramis of himself, Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. "We're going to be the sage mentors. There are going to be young Ghostbusters." Currently, no decisions has been made about who will be the young Ghostbusters, but with Judd Apatow signed on as a producer, it is expected for such funny men as Seth Rogen or Paul Rudd to join. At the moment, Ramis is waiting on a first draft of the script, which is being written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, two writer/producers on "The Office," who also wrote "Year One." "Gene and Lee, both of whom I mentored, are now writing the new 'Ghostbusters,'" said Ramis. "I'm consulting with them,

'Ghostbusters 3' to Have Old and Young Ghostbusters

28 March 2009 12:31 AM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

The old Ghostbusters crew, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, will indeed return as their characters in "Ghostbusters 3". Ramis, who played Dr. Egon Spengler as well as co-wrote the first two films, promised the matter when coming by MTV News to discuss about his forthcoming comedy "Year One".

"We're all going to be in it in different kinds of roles," Ramis said about how the original actors will be taking part in the modern version of the horror comedy. He furthermore added that they won't be the only Ghostbusters crew around, saying "We're going to be the sage mentors. There are going to be young Ghostbusters."

Asked about the script, he responded, "Gene [Stupnitsky] and Lee [Eisenberg], both of whom I mentored, are now writing the new 'Ghostbusters'. I'm consulting with them, as is Dan Aykroyd and [original director] Ivan Reitman." As for Murray's involvement so far, he jokingly said, "Bill
