Hide your transvestite hookers: Eddie Murphy may have a lot more free time on his hands.
According to WENN, he might be hanging it up after a career that began promisingly with 48 Hours and Beverly Hills Cop and ran aground ten years later. Even his Oscar nomination for Dreamgirls felt obligatory. Except to Murphy, of course, who's such a good sport he walked out of the ceremony after losing to a better performance by a better human being (Alan Arkin). There were actually quite a few better candidates than Murphy that year, and I'd be glad to list them for you should you ask.
So now, the once funny but long since irrelevant and self-absorbed Murphy might call it quits.
"I have close to fifty movies and it's like, why am I in the movies? I've done that part now," said Murphy. "I'll go back to the stage and do stand-up.

“Get Smart” stormed to the top of the North American box office this weekend with $39.1 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.
In the Peter Segal-directed spy comedy, Steve Carell stars as a clumsy secret agent who has only a few days to prevent a ruthless crime lord from securing world domination. Anne Hathaway, Alan Arkin and Dwayne Johnson co-star.
DreamWorks Animation’s family film “Kung Fu Panda” stayed put at No. 2 with a weekend gross of $21.7 million, reaching a total domestic gross of $155.5 million after three weeks in release. Directed by John Stevenson and Mark Osborne, the film follows the adventures of a lazy panda who must learn the basics of kung fu.
Last week’s box office champion “The Incredible Hulk” slipped to third place with $21.5 million from ticket sales at 3,508 locations. Released by 20th Century Fox and directed by Louis Leterrier,

The players: Director: Peter Segal, Writers: Tom J. Astle, Matt Ember, Cast: Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson, Alan Arkin, Terrence Stamp
Facts of interest: Based on the 1960s TV series co-created by Mel Brooks.
The plot: Agent Maxwell Smart (Carell) must hunt down and eliminate a ruthless villain who plans to take over the world.
Our quick thoughts: “Get Smart” is not as smart as you may think. Peter Segal’s action comedy misses its mark more often than it hits its obvious targets, offering audiences a moderately entertaining and quite simplistic flick with barely any surprises. Boasting an A-list cast led by Steve Carell, the film continually wrestles with mediocre screenwriting and a lack of solid laughs.

Peter Segal’s action comedy “Get Smart” opens tomorrow, and Entertainment Weekly briefly talked to the cast and crew at the film’s Los Angeles premiere last Monday. Topics of discussion included movie premieres and the possibility of a sequel, and here’s a little excerpt from what lead actor Steve Carell had to say about being offered his role:
“'I was so surprised when I was just given this part. I went into the room expecting to have to audition for the role. I took a headshot, even. And when they said I was who they had in mind for Max, my head exploded. I had never just been offered a part without auditioning.”

Who knew? Owen Wilson has a touch of the poet. "He's a big poetry fan, and I am too. So we email poems to each other," says Academy Award-wining actor Alan Arkin, 74, who recently wrapped the film Marley & Me alongside Wilson. At the Los Angeles premiere Monday night of Arkin's latest film Get Smart, also starring Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway, Arkin told People: "We sent little poems to each other since the movie." Wilson, 39, who recently split from actress Kate Hudson, also impressed Arkin with his ability to recite poems from memory. "He's very literate ... enormously literate," adds Arkin.

A host of A-list stars including Kevin Spacey and Will Smith are vying for a part in Steven Spielberg's new movie The Trial Of The Chicago 7.
The film is due to go into production later this year once Spielberg finishes promotional commitments for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which is due for release this summer.
The cast list has yet to be finalised and the only actor to have been signed for the picture is British comic Sacha Baron Cohen, who will star as 60s hippie satirist Abbie Hoffman.
But according to U.S. magazine Vanity Fair, Spacey, Smith, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Taye Diggs and Alan Arkin have all shown interest in appearing in the movie, which tells the story of the conspiracy trial which grew out of protests at the 1968 Democratic convention.
