Joseph Wiseman, the Canadian-born actor best known for his deliciously evil portrayal of the James Bond villain, Dr. No, passed away yesterday at age 91. Wiseman appeared in a slew of Broadway productions, television shows, and movies such as Viva Zapata! with Marlon Brando and The Unforgiven with Burt Lancaster. But he will always be remembered for locking horns with Sean Connery's agent 007 in 1962's Dr. No. Wiseman's character, a mad scientist with an arsenal of fiendishly wry quips, a charter membership in Spectre, and a nasty atomic-powered radio-beam weapon, became the prototypical Bond villain. Later in his life, the »

James Bond's original nemesis Dr. No has died - the actor Joseph Wiseman passed away on Monday.
Wiseman played the metal-clawed, crazed scientist in the first ever 007 feature film in 1962, which starred Sean Connery and Ursula Andress.
He died aged 91 at his home in New York after a prolonged battle with ill health - almost eight months after his wife, modern dancer/choreographer Pearl Lang, died suddenly from a heart attack following hip surgery.
As well as his role as Dr. No, Wiseman featured in a string of films including Detective Story and The Unforgiven.
He also had guest roles in Law & Order, The Streets of San Francisco and The Twilight Zone. »

Sad news today that Joseph Wiseman who played the first James Bond villain opposite Sean Connery in Dr. No has died ages 91. Wiseman played the character Dr. Julius No in the 1962 film.
The La Times have reported that Wiseman’s health had recently been deteriorating and that he died at his home in Manhattan. His last TV role was in an episode of Law And Order in 1996 with his last performance on stage in the 2001 production of Judgment At Nuremberg.
I think I’ve seen Dr. No more times than any other Bond and along with Connery, Ursula Andress coming out of the water and a ‘dragon’, Wiseman’s performance was excellent and paved the way for 20 other Bond villains over the next 50 years!
Our thoughts go out to his family and friends. Rip Mr. Wiseman.

Either you’re a Cradle of Filth fan, or you’re not, but even if you don’t listen to the music of the amazing metal band fronted by Dani Filth (sort of a cross between a musician, an evil warlock, and a British person), you won’t be able to deny Dani’s filthy charm. The dark enforcer of heavy metal and all things darkness has a surprisingly funny side to go along with his incontrovertible sex appeal. In 2003 he voiced the "Dominator" in the feature-length animated film of the same name and starred in the horror film Cradle of Fear. You can hear his collaborative work with Claudio Simonetti and the band Daemonia on the soundtrack of the Argento horror film The Mother of Tears. Now Dani’s latest creation, The Gospel of Filth, is causing us to get our panties in a tizzy. This collection of essays on the occult, »

Colin reviews the second James Bond film in the series.
For reasons that seem absolutely mystifying to me now, I used to dislike 1963's From Russia With Love, the second James Bond film. I always liked its predecessor, 1962's Dr. No, and I absolutely adored the follow-up, 1964's Goldfinger.
For reasons unknown, I just couldn't get into Russia. I vaguely recall an impression that it was dull and slow moving, but now that I've seen it again, I think I must have watched it on Opposite Day, for the truth of the matter is quite different from my old perception.
In fact, I now feel that Russia is clearly one of the best Bond films. It surpasses Dr. No and definitely rivals Goldfinger and 1965's Thunderball. Man, what was I thinking when I disliked this movie? I guess I'm not infallible after all!
In any case, I find Russia to »

Back in March, Warner Bros announced the creation of Warner Archives, a mail-order service that offered some of the more obscure titles from the studio's vaults on DVD for armchair cinephiles. Each month, the studio promised to dust off more films and add them to the list. We'll be honest, the first batch was loaded with a lot of mothball-scented curios that were never released on DVD for a reason. They were lesser films from big stars like Cary Grant, Clark Gable, and Greta Garbo. Sure, the Robert Osborne crowd would eat them up, but what about the rest of us with -- how should we put this -- less discerning tastes? Well, this month's arsenal of Warner Archives titles is for you! Here are some of the highlights. *Razorback: Highlander's Russell Mulcahy helms this 1984 killer pig movie is a wonderfully gory slice of Ozploitation. This is Grade »

Megan Fox thinks she’s too big to follow in the footsteps of Halle Berry, Ursula Andress, Diana Rigg, Jill St. John and Jane Seymour. All at one point in their career were “Bond girls” in the James Bond movie series. But the 23-year-old beauty, who is just coming off a role in the blockbuster “Transformers Revenge of the Fallen” thinks the part wouldn’t further her career. In any event, the role has been coveted. Other well-known actresses who appeared in the films include Kim Basinger, Maud Adams, Barbara Carrera, Grace Jones, Michelle Yeoh, Teri Hatcher, Denise Richards and Gemma Artherton. »

I’ve been pretty excited about this film since I first heard about it a few months ago. The original Clash of the Titans was epic cinematic camp and featured Harry Hamlin, Ursula Andress and Laurence Olivier as Zeus. Now, they’re remaking it under the direction of Louis Leterrier, the man who brought Hulk back from the cinematic brink last year — and we’ve got some pictures to prove it.
Warner Brothers, the kind and generous people that they are, have released some nice images for Clash of the Titans which are better than the ones which originally appeared in Empire and Entertainment Weekly. The new pics (Taken by Jay Maidment) show Sam Worthington as Perseus, who goes on a quest to save Andromeda and defeat Hades, the god of the underworld.
Liam Neeson follows in the footsteps of Olivier and plays Zeus, the wise yet often angry and »

Don’t play coy – we all remember that scene in Casino Royale when a seriously buff Daniel Craig emerges from the ocean. On first seeing it, guys were busy mentally signing up for gym membership and planning on snagging a pair of Bond’s snug La Perla Grigioperla swimming shorts, while women were lost in a lusty haze, wishing their fellas looked like that, swim shorts or not. It was a gender-reversal spin on the classic Ursula Andress beach scene from 1962’s Dr. No (itself revisited with Halle Berry in 2004’s Die Another Day) and quickly became The defining moment of Craig’s Bond, so much so that it has now inspired an ice lolly. Get your lips around these ladies!
An ice cream company commissioned a survey that asked over 1,000 women which male celebrity they would like on the end of a stick and coming up trumps was Craig as super-spy James Bond. »

Maxim's Gorgeous Geek Goddess List of Sci-Fi Starlets which appeared today on Foxnews, lists the hottest women in 50 years of sci-fi films. Of course, Ursula Andress is the top, from her awesome appearance in 1962's James Bond movie Dr. No. It also only lists one women from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, with almost zero description following each image of Wonder Woman, Kelly LeBrock, Natasha Henstridge, and (blech) Megan Fox.

Writer Jack D. Hunter has lost his battle with cancer, aged 87.
Hunter, whose World War I novel The Blue Max was made into a 1966 movie, died in St. Augustine, Florida on 13 April. No further information regarding his illness was available as WENN went to press.
Swiss actress and Bond Girl Ursula Andress and American actor George Peppard starred in the film, based on Hunter's 1964 book about German airman who earns a high military honour called the Blue Max after shooting down enemy planes.
Hunter wrote 17 novels in his time, publishing his last in the Autumn. His wife operated a gift shop named the Blue Max in the Florida city until her death in 2006.
Hunter is survived by four children, three grandchildren and a brother. »

Liam Neeson, 56, whose wife Natasha Richardson died last March 18, is set to begin work on a remake of Clash of the Titans. Neeson will play Zeus, the ancient Greeks’ top god (Zeus is akin to the Latin Deus, God), a role played by Laurence Olivier in the 1981 film. Louis Leterrier, of The Incredible Hulk, is set to direct the new version, which is scheduled to begin production in the United Kingdom later this month. Also in the new Clash of the Titans are Ralph Fiennes playing Hades, ruler of the underworld, Luke Treadaway (of Brothers of the Head), Mads Mikkelsen, Sam Worthington, Gemma Arterton, and Alexa Davalos. This will mark Neeson’s and Fiennes’ first film reunion since Schindler’s List back in 1993. Directed by Desmond Davis, the original Clash of the Titans featured stop-motion visual effects by Ray Harryhausen (who also co-produced the film), and starred Harry Hamlin and Judi Bowker. »

Liam Neeson is set to bounce back after the shock death of his wife Natasha Richardson by starring opposite longtime pal Ralph Fiennes in the Clash Of The Titans remake.
The two stars are set to play warring gods in the update of the cult 1981 film.
Neeson will play Zeus, according to The Hollywood Reporter, while Fiennes is in negotiations to take on the role of Hades, ruler of the underworld.
The film set will be a more cheerful get-together for Neeson and Fiennes, who last met at Richardson's New York state funeral in March.
The all-star cast will also feature Aussie hunk Sam Worthington as Greek hero Perseus and James Bond stars Gemma Arterton and Mads Mikkelson.
Mikkelson will play Draco, a fearless warrior, while Brit Arterton will take on the part of Io, a love interest of the movie's protagonist Perseus.
The original film starred Ursula Andress as Aphrodite, Sir Laurence Olivier as Zeus and Dame Maggie Smith. Harry Hamlin was the original Perseus. »

The Hulk director Louis Leterrier’s remake of Clash of The Titans appears to be snagging a cast that matches the original for acting talent. The 1981 film starred Harry Hamlin (maybe not him) in the lead role but it also had Laurence Oliver, Maggie Smith and err… former Bond girl Ursula Andress as Greek gods. Variety now reports that Ralph Fiennes and his Schlinder’s List co-star Liam Neeson are in negotiations to join Sam Worthington’s Perseus, another former Bond girl, Gemma Arterton, Mads Mikkelsen (Bond villain!), and Alexa Davalos in the forthcoming Warner Bros. film.
In the film, Neeson would play Zeus and Ralph Fiennes would star as Hades, “Lord of the Underworld” which I can assure readers has nothing whatsoever to do with skin tight Pvc, Vampires or Werewolves.

Quantum Of Solace star Gemma Arterton is turning her back on Bond to team up with 007 villain Mads Mikkelsen - they have both signed on to star in the remake of classic film Clash Of The Titans.
Arterton and Mikkelson, who have both starred opposite Daniel Craig in the Bond franchise, have joined Australian actor Sam Worthington in the new movie, a fantasy tale of Greek Gods, mystical creatures and epic battles.
Mikkelson will play Draco, a fearless warrior, while Brit Arterton will take on the part of Io, a love interest of the movie's protagonist Perseus.
The original film, released in 1981, starred Ursula Andress, Sir Laurence Olivier and Dame Maggie Smith.
But Arterton has promised the 2010 version will take the story in a completely new direction.
She says, "The script is very different.
"Obviously the story is the story, but it's much more about Perseus' mission, and how he deals with being the son of Zeus, and things like that, so it feels a little more about him, and about the issues around that." »

Freida Pinto could soon join the ranks of Halle Berry, Ursula Andress and Honor Blackman as the new Bond girl - the Slumdog Millionaire star has reportedly been invited to audition for the next 007 movie.
Casting directors considered the Indian actress for 2008's Quantum Of Solace - but picked Ukrainian model Olga Kurylenko after deciding Pinto was too young for the role, reports Britain's The Sun.
But now executive producer Barbara Broccoli is said to be hoping to convince Pinto to screen test for the next superspy installment.
A source tells the publication, "Freida came to the attention of the Bond team when they were casting Quantum Of Solace. She was too young at the time to play a love interest for a secret agent. But she is ready now.
"She has blossomed into an incredibly stunning young woman and would look perfect on Daniel Craig's arm."
Filmmaker Danny Boyle, who directed Pinto in Slumdog Millionaire, announced earlier this month he would not direct the next secret agent blockbuster - despite being a huge fan of the franchise. »

Former Bond girl Ursula Andress is keen to avoid having her picture taken - because she fears she is almost unrecognisable from the beauty she once was in her youth.
The Swiss-born actress became part of movie history when she emerged from the sea in a skimpy white bikini in 1962's Dr. No, opposite Sean Connery.
But Andress, 72, is adamant she will never pose for a camera in broad daylight again, because she doesn't want to spoil people's memories of her.
The actress, who now suffers from brittle bone disease, says, "Forty-five years ago looking like that was easy, now it is hard. These days I prefer a little more darkness and to keep the old photos going." »
