Our quick thoughts: Walt Disney’s next computer-animated family adventure without the glorious support of Pixar is entitled “Bolt,” a film about a dog who believes he’s got real superpowers just because he’s the star of TV’s most popular action series.
If you went to see “Wall-e” this weekend you’ve probably seen the first official trailer for the upcoming film, which opens Nov. 26, 2008. Although I have to admit the trailer is stuffed with fast-paced action, it looks like this is just another story about an eccentric animal facing a reality check once it is accidentally pulled out of its daily routine.
The film is directed by Byron Howard and Chris Williams, and features the voices of John Travolta, Miley Cyrus and Malcolm McDowell, among others. Woof woof!
Freaky quote: “We need a fast set of wheels.” – John Travolta

Disney Interactive Studios has announced that it will release a video game inspired by the forthcoming Disney animation Bolt this November. The movie centres on super-dog Bolt (voiced by John Travolta), a TV star whose fictional character has magical powers. Bolt, who believes his powers are real, is accidentally shipped from La to New York and must make his way home with the help of a TV-obsessed hamster and a house cat named Mittens. He later discovers, in true Disney style, that he does not need superpowers to be a hero. In the game for Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, PS3, DS and PC, players take control of Bolt, making use of his superpowers (more)

Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, John Travolta and Kelly Preston have been told to seek medical attention, after deadly asbestos was found on a cruise ship they have all sailed on.
The foursome have all celebrated birthdays or other functions aboard Church of Scientology cruise ship the Mv Freewinds, which was recently discovered to be contaminated with dangerous levels of blue asbestos.
Toxicologist Dr. Chris Coggins says, "This is the most dangerous type of asbestos because the fibres are smaller than the white asbestos and can penetrate the lung more easily." Asbestos particles can stay dormant in the lungs for years before causing a deadly cancer called mesothelioma.
Dr. Coggins adds, "Once diagnosed with mesothelioma, the victim has six months to a year to live. It gradually reduces lung function until the victim is no longer able to breathe and dies."

U.S. TV star Jason Beghe has slammed the controversial Church of Scientology, branding his former religion "destructive" and "dangerous".
The actor, who has appeared in Csi: Crime Scene Investigation and Criminal Minds, began taking courses in Scientology in 1994, and even appeared in promotional footage for the religion in 2005.
Beghe was considered a 'top Scientologist' or 'OT5', a rank similar to Tom Cruise and John Travolta's standing in the church, but has now released footage on video-sharing website YouTube.com denouncing the controversial faith.
According to FoxNews.com reporter Roger Friedman, the video is a three minute trailer for a forthcoming in-depth interview.
In the footage, Beghe says, "Scientology is destructive and a rip-off. It's very, very dangerous for your spiritual, psychological, mental, emotional health and evolution. I think it stunts your evolution. If Scientology is real, then something's f**ked up. It ain't (sic) deliverin' what it's promised. It sure has not."
Beghe insists he has recorded the footage to help those who are influenced by the religion.
He adds, "I don't have an agenda. I'm just trying to help. I have the luxury of having gotten into Scientology and after having been in it, been out. And that's a perspective that people who are still in and not out do not have."

Troubled Grease star Jeff Conaway owes his alcohol addiction to a boozy childhood - he first got drunk when he was three.
The actor, who is currently battling drinking, cocaine and painkiller issues, admits his family had a very liberal approach to alcohol.
He says, "My grandmother used to make beer in the bathtub and we'd drink together; we'd sit there and suck on the hose and drink this deep dark brown beer that she would make.
"The first time I got drunk, I was three; I drank a bottle of sherry. I thought it tasted like ice-cream."
Conaway is hoping to kick his alcohol addiction with help from celebrity psychologist Dr. Drew Pinsky and former Grease co-star John Travolta, who recently introduced the troubled star to a Church of Scientology addiction treatment program.
Conaway was among the stars who took part in Dr. Pinsky's reality TV hit Celebrity Rehab, but he quit the televised treatment early. He now hopes to return to the show for a planned second season.

Troubled Grease star Jeff Conaway is planning a second stint on hard-hitting U.S. reality show Celebrity Rehab, despite quitting the programme days before completing his televised treatment.
The actor - who played Kenickie in the iconic 1978 musical movie - was struggling with severe cocaine, painkiller and alcohol addictions when he signed up to appear with other fallen stars on psychologist Dr. Drew Pinsky's TV experiment.
He quit the programme early when the facility which housed himself and others, like fellow actor Daniel Baldwin, reportedly ran out of the pain medication he needed.
But Conaway isn't opposed to returning to Celebrity Rehab for a planned second season.
He says, "It's not over, I'm gonna go back in."
The actor admits he no longer feels like a suicidal lost cause, thanks to Dr. Pinsky's treatment, and help from former Grease costar John Travolta, who has come to his aid since his rehab stint.
Conaway insists the recent death of his mother made him realise how far he has come: "I miss her a lot, but I didn't go back to using over that."
The fallen star admits he still needs to work on his painkiller addiction - and that's why he'd like to return to Celebrity Rehab.

Actress Nancy Cartwright, the voice behind cartoon character Bart Simpson, has been awarded Scientology's Patron Laureate Award after donating $10 million to the faith in 2007. Cartwright's gift - almost two times her annual salary from The Simpsons - puts her top of a list of celebrity benefactors, who have handed over their hard-earned cash to the Church of Scientology. She gave even more than Tom Cruise - who is reported to be the controversial religion's second-in-command - who has donated $5 million in the last four years. According to Impact magazine, Kirstie Alley gave $5 million last year and has picked up the Diamond Meritorious Award. Fellow followers John Travolta and Kelly Preston gave $1 million each and were awarded the Gold Meritorious Award, while Priscilla Presley was handed the Patron Award for a donation of $50,000. The prizes were handed out at a top secret ceremony in Florida last summer, according to the American publication.

Nicole Kidman and Mel Gibson have become the first stars to speak publicly about fellow Aussie Heath Ledger's shock death. The Brokeback Mountain star, 28, was found dead at his apartment in New York on Tuesday and Kidman admits the tragedy has left her heartbroken. In a brief statement, the actress says, "What a tragedy. My heart goes out to his family." Gibson, who played the actor's father in The Patriot, states, "I had such great hope for him. He was just taking off, and to lose his life at such a young age is a tragic loss." And leading movie news source, Clint Morris, reveals Ledger's fellow Australians have been left stunned by the news of the actor's sudden death. Movie producer Morris, the man behind website MovieHole.net, says, "The whole of Australia is in deep shock. I liked Heath. He was a good guy. Loved his daughter. Knew his sister too." Morris reveals Ledger's death will present problems for Batman producers - because the actor had already signed on to reprise his role as The Joker in the follow-up to this summer's The Dark Knight. He adds, "I guess they can easily re-write it or re-cast. But yes, it's true, Heath was supposed to return in the next Batman movie." Hollywood is also mourning the actor's death; John Travolta has revealed Ledger was "one of my favorite actors," adding, "His abilities are rare." And Alan Horn, the President of Warner Brothers - the studio behind The Dark Knight, reveals the shocking news has left movie executives "devastated." Horn says, "The entertainment community has lost an enormous talent. Heath was a brilliant actor and an exceptional person."

Hollywood stars like Julia Roberts, Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp look set to boycott this Sunday's Golden Globes ceremony to show their support to striking writers. Actors represented by the Screen Actors' Guild (SAG) are in "unanimous agreement" not to ignore the plight of the Writers Guild of America union members, who are picketing over royalties. Announcing the union's decision on Friday, SAG president, Alan Rosenberg, said, "After considerable outreach to Golden Globe actor nominees and their representatives over the past several weeks, there appears to be unanimous agreement that these actors will not cross WGA (Writers' Guild of America) picket lines." In response to the boycott action, the WGA members thanked the SAG for its "solidarity and support." Other stars nominated for gongs at the prestigious ceremony include George Clooney, John Travolta, Denzel Washington, Cate Blanchett and Jodie Foster - all of whom are unlikely to appear at the awards show if the WGA members do not reach an agreement with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which organizes the Golden Globes, in time for next Sunday. Knightley, who is up for Best Actress for her starring role in Atonement, is particularly supportive of the strike, because of her playwright mother, Sharman Macdonald. A representative for the British beauty confirms: "If the strike is still in place then Keira won't cross a picket line as her mother is a writer."
