It’s nice to hear Harold Ramis talk candidly about Ghostbusters 3 for almost 7 minutes. I’m worried about the threequel so long after Ghostbusters 2 proved to be an enjoyable, but flawed, extension of the first film. Ramis has opened up to Natalie Portman co-owned filmmaking website MakingOf.com, where he discusses the effects of the new [...]

Tobey Maguire has signed on to star in the indie black comedy The Details, replacing James McAvoy (Wanted) who has dropped out of the project due to a scheduling conflict. Jacob Estes (Mean Creek) wrote the script and is directing. Maguire joins Elizabeth Banks in the film about a struggling married couple who, already struggling with issues like infidelity and whether they should stay married, see their lives further complicated by ravenous raccoons burrowing under the sod in their back yard. A disagreement over how to dispatch the pests creates a chain reaction of mishaps that include a murder by bow and arrow. Ray Liotta, Dennis Haysbert and Anna Friel round out the cast and Laura Linney is attached to play an eccentric neighbor. Filming is expected to star later this summer in Seattle. Maguire, who was interested in the role very early on, will film The Details before heading

Last year at this time I wished you a Happy 4th from the Film Experience's Holy Trinity (American Division) plus one. But in the interest of expanding my cinematic spirituality beyond, quoth reader Robert,In the name of the Meryl, the Julianne and the Holy Pfeiffer I've decided I should commemorate this particular patriotic day with photos of a few randomly selected young American actresses I like. Loving rising talent is quite easy (everyone does it) but for me, as an actressexual, it's also fraught with anxiety. Nobody ever quite comes right out and asks me why I'm so continually focused on the 30+ movie star sector but it's for that reason. When actors are teens or twentysomethings you never know if your fandom will be rewarded. They might have long pleasurable careers one can obsess on for years after like the Holy Trinity but they might not. Unfortunate fates are

Entertainment Tonight has debuted the first trailer for Brothers starring Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman which you can check out below. In the upcoming Lionsgate drama, Tobey and Jake play siblings Sam and Tommy. When Sam's chopper is shot down in the mountains of Afghanistan and he's believed to be dead, Tommy turns over a new leaf by taking responsibility for Sam's wife, Grace (Portman), and children -- leading to an unexpected attraction. Later, Sam returns home after being captured and tortured by Taliban fighters, shifting the family dynamic into super uncomfortable territory. Despite the deep talent assembled for Brothers I feel like I just watched an entire Lifetime or We movie from the trailer. What do you think? Best acting nod for a psycho-looking Tobey Maguire or destined for a TV movie of the week?Look for Brothers in theaters this December.

Talk about one of the most disjointed trailers I’ve ever seen. It starts off like a weepie Iraq War Lifetime movie but then it turns into a crazy ex husband Lifetime movie. With a pedigree of Suzanne Bier’s original story (and her 2004 film) and Oscar nominee Jim Sheridan’s directing I’m certain the finished product will be something more thoughtful than the trailer. The acting trio of Natalie Portman, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Tobey Maguire shouldn’t disappoint. Lionsgate will release the film on December 4th.

Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer brought their two kids out for a little shopping trip in La on Sunday. Ruby Sweetheart held onto daddy's hand while her 2-month-old brother, whose name we learned this weekend - Otis Tobias Maguire - chilled in his stroller being pushed by mom. Tobey spends most of his time being a family man these days, but this December his highly anticipated Brothers will pull us back in to his acting talent. Buzz has the first trailer for the film, which also stars Natalie Portman and Jake Gyllenhaal - check it out here to see why there are already whispers of Oscar surrounding the heart-wrenching story. You'll have to dip a bit back into the memory banks for this project. Back in 2007, well before Jake Gyllenhaal got buff for the Prince of Persia, he and Tobey Maguire were circling an English-language remake of Susanne Bier's Brothers. No longer rivals for the web of Spider-Man, the two would play brothers that get torn apart by war, assumed death, and familial drama. The film will finally get released this year, and there's a solid first trailer over at Et Online.
Maguire plays Sam, a marine off on his fourth tour of duty while Gyllenhaal plays Tommy, his charming bad-boy brother, fresh out of jail. When Sam's copter is shot down, he's assumed dead and his wife Grace (Natalie Portman) tries to pull her life back together. Tommy helps, the line blurs, and in true Hollywood fashion, just as she starts to fall for Tommy ... it turns out Sam is alive.

We know better than to expect standard melodrama from Jim Sheridan, the director behind In America, In the Name of the Father, and My Left Foot. Known for making films that feature gut-wrenching performances, he’s got one heck of a vehicle for eliciting powerful emotions in Brothers, a tale of family, love and loyalty set against the backdrop of military operations in Afghanistan.
The film is a remake of Susanne Bier's Danish war film Brødre (Brothers), and you can check out the trailer using the below player.
Brothers revolves around siblings and polar opposites Captain Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire) and Tommy Cahill (Jake Gyllenhaal). When Sam goes missing and is presumed dead, Tommy, who is an ex-con and drifter, tries to fill the void left behind by taking responsibility for his brother’s wife Grace (Natalie Portman) and two young daughters. As Tommy tries to turn his life around,

A few days early, ETOnline has premiered an early look at the trailer for the upcoming war drama Brothers.
Brothers Trailer
Brothers tells the powerful story of two siblings, thirtysomething Captain Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire) and younger brother Tommy Cahill (Jake Gyllenhaal), who are polar opposites. A Marine about to embark on his fourth tour of duty, Sam is a steadfast family man married to his high school sweetheart, the aptly named Grace (Natalie Portman), with whom he has two young daughters (Bailee Madison, Taylor Grace Geare). Tommy, his charismatic younger brother, is a drifter just out of jail who's always gotten by on wit and charm. He slides easily into his role as family provocateur on his first night out of prison, at Sam's farewell dinner with their parents, Elsie (Mare Winningham) and Hank Cahill (Sam Shepard), a retired Marine.

The trailer for the Us remake of the Danish film “Brødre”, simply called “Brothers”, has popped up online. There is no shortage of big stars in this one, Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman (yes please) and Tobey Maguire and the thing is being directed by Jim Sheridan of My Left Foot and Get Rich or Die Trying fame. The story is revolves around when a woman finds out that her husband (Maguire) has apparently died in Iraq and his brother (Gyllenhaal) comes over to help her out, seeing that she has two kids to take care of and all. Time passes and the two start falling in love but then they find out that the dead husband and brother isn’t really dead after all (oops). This clearly puts a damper on the relationship between them but the “dead” brother is a changed man when he returns and seems to be craving human blood and flesh.

Jim Sheridan, director of In America and In The Name of the Father, has been out of the picture ever since Get Rich Or Die Tryin'. But now he's back with the rather promising-sounding Brothers, which sees Natalie Portman, Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire in a family drama. Check it out here. The film sees Grace Cahill (Portman) informed that her Marine husband Sam (Maguire) has been killed while serving in Afghanistan. His good-for-nothing brother Tommy (Gyllenhaal) unexpectedly steps up in his absence and takes care of his wife and children - but when romantic feelings grow between Grace and Tommy, things get complicated (the trailer will explain exactly how, so beware spoilers!).The film's based on Susanne Bier's Brothers, and is due for release in the Us on December 4, and hopefully here not long after.

Last week, somewhere between the press events and the mystery movies, the first trailer for Brothers was released. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman and is directed by Jim Sheridan, the film hits Us theatres on 4th December, and UK release date has yet to be confirmed.
Part war film, part thriller, Brothers stars Tobey Maguire as a soldier who goes missing during a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Presumed dead, Maguires brother (Jake Gyllenhaal) does his best to comfort Maguires grieving wife (Natalie Portman) and two young daughters. Before long, Gyllenhaal and Portman discover a new found love for one another and a romance develops - just as Tobey Maguire is found alive and well…

Finally, the trailer for the new Jim Sheridan film, Brothers. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman, this movie is certainly one of tMF's most anticipated for 2009. I saw Filmonic.com's twitter post (the original post is here) and rushed to youtube to watch it.

I'm not a big fan of Tobey Maguire, but from just watching the trailer, I was simply surprised (and amazed) at the intensity of his acting. There is no Spiderman hype or anything 'artificial' here. Tobey is an angry man who just discovered that his wife is sleeping with his brother, and he explodes!
But Jake and Natalie also gave awesome performances.
If Closer was not 'close' enough for Natalie to grab an Oscar, then perhaps this movie might give her another shot - whether she can deliver a consistent performance throughout the film, we still need to find out,
