What do we know so far on Big Love season 4? The promos don't really say a lot, although they're deliciously vague and mysterious, except that falling might be the keyword on the season that kicks off January 10. Of course, falling apart is the most obvious guess, but from where people stand right now, there ought to be more than that.
First off, Bill (Bill Paxton) is running for state senator to openly promote polygamy. According to Big Love executive producer Marc Olsen, Bill's objective is to be public polygamists. "He can't be impeached for that. Polygamy is technically a misdemeanor in Utah, [and a misdemeanor is not] an impeachable offense," he says, adding that the family isn't exactly united on whether or not to support his political bid.

Take a good look at HBO's new poster touting the Jan. 10 fourth-season premiere of Big Love: It may be the last time you see the Henricksons looking this tight. When we rejoin the family, man of the house(s) Bill (Bill Paxton) will be running for state senator. But the issue won't be whether he wins but what he stands to lose along the way. "His goal, if he's elected, is to put himself and his family out there as public polygamists," says executive producer Marc V. Olsen, adding, "He can't be impeached for that. What better way to promote one of TV's finest shows than to evoke another of TV's finest shows? Or maybe we're the only ones getting "Mad Men" opening credits flashbacks watching Bill Paxton's Bill Henrickson fall through the air, grasping for any finger-hold, in HBO's teasing first promo for the upcoming fourth season of "Big Love." The wait has been relatively brief for Season Four, which premieres on HBO on Jan. 10, 2010. The gap between seasons two and three was nearly 17 months, but "Big Love" only finished its third season on March 22, 2009. So what... »

Chicago – It’s funny the way that the Blu-Ray market has developed in that success of a new title can often bring an old one to the HD format more quickly than it otherwise would get there. In the case of the great “Near Dark,” it’s the success of two films, one that shares a theme (“The Twilight Saga: New Moon”) and one that shares director Kathryn Bigelow (“The Hurt Locker”). Whatever the reason, don’t fail to include arguably the best vampire movie ever made in your collection.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0
I’d like to think that the success of one of the best movies of the year in Kathryn Bigelow’s “The Hurt Locker” is why we’re seeing one of her earlier films on Blu-Ray but the cheesy, re-done cover that makes the thing practically look like a “Twilight” sequel leads me to believe that it’s »

DVD Playhouse—November 2009

Watchmen—The Ultimate Cut (Warner Bros.) Director Zack Snyder’s film of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ landmark graphic novel is as worthy an adaptation of a great book that has ever been filmed. In an alternative version of the year 1985, Richard Nixon is serving his third term as President and super heroes have been outlawed by a congressional act, in spite of the fact that two of the most high-profile “masks,” Dr. Manhattan (Billy Cruddup) and The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) helped the U.S. win the Vietnam War. When The Comedian is found murdered, many former heroes become concerned that a conspiracy is afoot to assassinate retired costumed crime fighters. Former masks Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson), Silk Spectre (Malin Akerman) and still-operating Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley, in an Oscar-worthy turn) launch an investigation of their own, all while the Pentagon’s “Doomsday »

Last night's Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards ceremony was as packed with meta-literal moments as it was with unabashed enthusiasm for the cinema. Onscreen talents such as Jason Bateman, Bill Paxton and Diane Kruger mounted the Highlands stage to thank their behind-the-camera colleagues, who then jumped in front of our cameras to accept their awards. But the most meta moment was claimed when Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt honored screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber by ditching their presenter script to improv how 500 Days of Summer would have looked without Neustadter and Weber's screenplay. »

Ellen Ripley (Alien/Aliens, 1979/86)
Warrant Officer Ellen Ripley is just hanging out on the intergalactic transport ship Nostromo, leading the often-dull life of a Space Teamster, when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, her idiot captain decides to land on the remote planet Lv-426 to investigate some stupid distress signal emanating from a crashed spaceship. Now, as we all know, responding to distress signals is one of the top five most insanely boneheaded tactical decisions any science-fiction/horror space traveler can possibly make, but this doesn’t stop Captain Numbnuts from ordering his crew to get their asses down there and dope out the spooky alien wreckage.
Of course, once they go down to investigate, some dumbass crewmember decides it would be totally hilarious to stick his face in one of the strange egglike things he finds in the smoldering wreckage of the derelict ship. »

A father's expectations. A son's dream. A brother's rivalry.
Runt of the Litter is the acclaimed, semi-autobiographical one-man show (soon to be a major motion picture) chronicles volatile family dynamics as well as triumph despite great odds. Always considered too small to play football, former Houston Oiler Bo Eason developed-then never deviated from-a 20-year-plan to go pro. But his plan didn't include a more talented older brother whose success would forever eclipse his own.
Written and performed by Bo Eason and directed by Larry Moss, Runt of the Litter opens in the final hour of Jack Henry's lifelong dream, with only one thing that stands in his way: his brother. The play closely examines what happens to two brothers in a family of overachievers: when their parents assure their oldest son that he is the one destined for football superstardom, and they tell their youngest son he is too small to compete. »

Near Dark (1987) Synopsis: A cowboy (Adrian Pasdar) meets a pretty, young gal at the local saloon and discovers too late that her kiss includes a double-pronged love bite of vampiric proportions. Mae (Jenny Wright) and her blood-sucking vampire family (half the cast of Aliens) take Caleb for a ride in their Winnebago and try to make him one of them. But as any good cowboy would, Caleb fights his transformation and sets about rescuing the pale-skinned love of his life. The family isn't too keen on that idea of course and soon the small Texas town is awash in blood, burning flesh, and bar fights. Killer Scene: Speaking of bar fights... Caleb's introduction to the family's unique hobby occurs in a sleazy bar almost halfway into the movie. After insulting the bartender and patrons ("shit-kicker heaven"), the blood-letting begins with a waitress getting her throat slit. More deaths follow including a broken neck, shotgun »

In my mind you would have to be either totally crazy, Bill Paxton, or both in order to drive head-on towards an incoming tornado. But Reed Timmer and Chris Chittick do it all the time and, what’s more, they do it on television. As part of Team Tvn on the Discovery Channel’s Storm Chasers, these two riders on the storm put themselves in harm’s way daily, all for the sake of scientific research, adrenaline and good TV. So in honor of the premiere of their third season Sunday night, we asked them to give us their Top 5 list of scariest, »

Poor Daniel Myrick. After all but setting the world on fire a decade ago with The Blair Witch Project (co-directed with Eduardo Sanchez), a film that managed to grab headlines in the summer of The Matrix, Star Wars: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, and The Sixth Sense, he returns now with The Objective, a film that is split by two opposing instincts: recapturing the glory of his initial success and expanding his vision to a scope that would suggest he’s ready to move on to a studio feature. Neither instinct is satisfied by either the film’s plotline or its execution, leaving us to wonder what movie he really wanted to make.
