Dir: Robert Zemeckis Cast: Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Bob Hoskins Last night saw the breaking of a few festive world records in a decidedly Dickensian Leicester Square. Firstly, opera singer Andrea Bocelli lead the largest Christmas Carol ‘sing-along’ from the Square, as revellers across London joined in after the official ‘turning on’ of the Christmas lights. Then Disney, in collaboration with Sky Movies HD, hosted the largest ever ‘3D premiere’ for their new film ‘A Christmas Carol’. Anyone who worries that Christmas has sold its soul should have headed to central London last night: Disney have bought the entire centre’s Christmas lights, so Jim Carey’s performance-captured face will be staring down at us from all over the shopping district until the dawn of 2010. But in Disney’s defence – and not wanting to cry ‘humbug’ too loud on this joyous occasion – the premiere was a success and »

Despicable Me has a new trailer and it.s just as strange and unexpected as the last one. This time, we get a little clearer picture of what the movie might be about. Super villains. Steve Carrell.s strangely accented bald character, Gru, is the world.s number two super villain and he.d very much like to be number one. In the trailer, he attempts to assault the lair of the world.s number one villain and meets with stiff resistance of the type that would do Dr. Evil proud. I.ve said for years now that Mike Meyers should have really just dropped the Austin Powers from Austin Powers after the second movie and given Dr. Evil his own movie. Well now someone.s doing it, only in animated form. Check the new trailer for Despicable Me below or in see it sweet HD on Apple. And click »

Today on her Huffington Post Blog, Jamie Lee Curtis (best known to horror fans as the original Lori Strode in John Carpenter's Halloween, as well as the star of thr original The Fog, Prom Night and Terror Train), shows us she's actually very anti-horror on Halloween.
Her desire to 'tone down' the gore on halloween, especially when it comes to kids, just really gets my panties in a twisted, bleeding bunch.
"Halloween, the holiday, is a breeding ground for a seemingly unending gruesome gore fest," says Curtis. "Has it always been this way? I don't think so. I remember Halloween as a time to dress up in a costume other than myself. That was what was fun..."
"The fact that my film nemesis," she continues, "And if you ever see the forgettable Halloween 8, my subsequent murderer, Michael Myers (for the uninformed, he is the one in the gray jumpsuit and »

The idea of one actor playing multiple characters in a film isn't a new one even though many people begin and end the conversation with Eddie Murphy for his performances in films such as Nutty Professor and Norbit all while forgetting the comedy he brought us in Coming to America.
Before Murphy we had the likes of Mel Brooks in History of the World and Spaceballs, Alec Guiness in the fantastic Kind Hearts and Coronets and Peter Sellers in Dr. Strangelove. Outside of Murphy it seems only Mike Myers has endured the same kind of ill treatment, primarily for taking the joke to the point it wasn't funny any longer (debatable) in the Austin Powers films and then dropping the bomb that was The Love Guru.
Looking at the performances listed above I am reminded of some classic films as well as a couple that missed the mark, but we »

I was handed this scrappy-looking DVD with a partial eyeroll and a shoulder shrug. Looking at the rinky-dink website with no salient journalism information (Photos? Runtime?) caused even less excitement. A sequel to 2007's "Caesar and Otto" (No? You haven't heard of it either?), Caesar and Otto's Summer Camp Massacre looked like it was going to be porn without the porn. Imagine my elation on discovering that writer/director/producer/star Dave Campfield is talented and well-versed in the language of film.
Despite the DVD cover and website doing the movie no favors, Caesar and Otto's Summer Camp Massacre is actually a funny broad comedy, with bigger appeal than the niche horror-comedy crowd it is being marketed to. It is directed and edited with such panache that I could see it appealing to many fans of the Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler ilk who wouldn't and don't »

A good villain is memorable, and impressive, and scary as hell. But bring back the same villain over and over, give him lousy dialogue and have him repeatedly defeated by worthless opponents, and that villain becomes nothing more than an ineffectual bully who doesn't know when to give up. He's like that big, hairy guy down the street who scared the crap out of you when you were a kid, but who now has a pot belly, three obnoxious kids, and a Trans Am on blocks in his front yard. It makes it hard to remember why you ever found him frightening in the first place -- you'd feel sorry for him, but you just don't care enough to bother. Like these five:
Dr. Evil
Remember how cool Dr. Evil was in the first Austin Powers movie? Very few villains have fallen as far or as fast as Mike Myers' homage to Bondian baddies. »

Always one step behind in the battle against the blogosphere, the majors are forbidding stars to divulge any information about ongoing projects on their blogs or on social networks such as Twitter or Facebook. This is the latest attempt by movie studios to slow down the flow of information on the Web and keep some semblance of control over their productions in the media, by making actors they hire accept a corresponding "no-blogging" clause in their contracts. Among the big names who have so far agreed to these conditions are Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz. The two will again lend their voices to the characters "Shrek" and Princess Fiona in the fourth animated adventures of the cuddly green og... »

Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz have brushed off rumours they have been banned from using social networking site Twitter.com by movie bosses.
This week (begs19Oct09) saw a spate of reports suggesting Hollywood bosses are keen to clamp down on stars using the website, amid fears they will reveal important details about their upcoming film projects.
Myers and Diaz, who star in the upcoming Shrek sequel, were rumoured to be the first hit by a wave of contract clauses forbidding them from using Twitter.com.
But representatives for the actors insist the news is not true, with a spokesperson for Myers telling GossipCop.com the stories are "completely false." »

These days when I get an invitation from a studio to an advance screening of a movie, it comes with a clause asking me not to write a review of the movie until opening day-- and that includes blog posts, Facebook posts, and yes, tweets, about given movie. It's pretty standard, really-- any information that you wouldn't print in the newspaper, you don't put on your Twitter feed. It seems only logical that actors who sign non-disclosure agreements about their work on upcoming projects would be subject to the same kinds of rules, but apparently British newspaper The Sun is treating this as news. Using Cameron Diaz and Mike Myers, voice actors for the upcoming Shrek Forever After, as its examples, the Sun says that studios are "inserting clauses in their contracts forbidding them" from leaking information about a movie on social networking sites. Again, duh. And most celebrities worth »

All good things must come to an end ... or so it seems.
For several months now, Twitter has been a top source for behind-the-scenes movie news, including plot and casting leaks. Unhappy with the trend, studios are inserting anti-Tweet clauses into many stars' contracts, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
A recent talent contract from Disney includes a new clause forbidding confidentiality breaches via "interactive media such as Facebook, Twitter, or any other interactive social network or personal blog."
Over at DreamWorks, a writer's deal cautions not to jump the gun on studio press releases via "a social networking site, blog or other Internet-type site."
Who will be among the first affected by the new contract language? The Telegraph is reporting that affected stars include Cameron Diaz and Mike Myers, due to film the Shrek follow-up next year for DreamWorks.
"The greatest fairy tale never told," indeed.

This isn’t an easy piece to write. Don’t I work at Fangoria – a horror entertainment company? Isn’t Halloween our equivalent to Christmas? Isn’t it the most important time of year for us – let alone the most important day? Yes, yes and yes. And I’m happy, don’t get me wrong. I’m happy – for everyone else! I have been scared of Halloween since I can remember. In fact I can’t remember dressing up as a little girl. Trust me it isn’t because I am That old; more likely I blocked out ever having gone trick or treating. But that has to be bullshit because I sure do remember the candy and I remember the pennies that were for Unisef. Yet, somehow and somewhere and in some way, I can’t recall one single costume. And that is because Halloween scares me.
As we approach this Christmas-like holiday, »

Movie bosses have banned a series of stars including Cameron Diaz and Mike Myers from joining microblogging site Twitter.com - in a bid to prevent secret information leaking out.
Filmmakers are becoming increasingly worried about actors ruining plots and damaging the industry by putting up messages on the public website.
Executives at Dreamworks have forbidden actors from giving out information on the internet by inserting clauses into their contracts - with Diaz and Myers, who are lined up to star in another Shrek sequel next year, the first affected by the move. »

Less than a week after the news that Gary Ross would be writing and directing a Venom spin-off for Columbia and Marvel, comes a story from The Playlist that before that, Ross will be picking up the reigns to Matt Helm from Steven Spielberg. As previously reported, Matt Helm is an American "counter-agent" from a 27-strong series of novels by Donald Hamilton. He's been filmed before, as a series of Bond-spoofing campfests starring Dean Martin that directly influenced Mike Myers when he came to make Austin Powers. But this new film, scripted by Paul Attaniasio (the first in a projected franchise, natch), aims to take Helm back to source for some Bourne-type action and grit.Cast-wise, we can apparently expect Bradley Cooper, very sensibly striking while the iron's hot and grabbing his own series, although nothing's actually been signed yet. Spielberg developed the project at Paramount before the split with Dreamworks, »

Aren't social dynamics fascinating? I'm guessing that a lot of you watching the show this season are enjoying Shambo. And why not? She's got a great sense of humor and a great head of hair. So why does Galu dislike her so much? Here's my take. I think it comes down to the unpredictable nature of human interaction… social dynamics. You put a group of people together and natural relationships begin to form. Some people quickly connect, others not so much. But give it a few days and the tribe itself begins to form a personality. As a tribe, Galu is a young, »

An actor's career is more than just the sum of their most memorable catch-phrases, but that's sometimes the best they can hope for. Ask the typical movie nerd what comes to mind when they think of Al Pacino, and nine out of ten of them will yell back in a regrettable Cuban accent, "Say hello to my little friend!" Nowhere is this more true than in comedy. Steve Martin could win a dozen Oscars and he'll still be remembered as the guy who says "Excuuuuuuuse me." Mike Myers will be asking the rhetorical question "Do I make you horny?" six nights a week on the inevitable Indian casino tour of his future. And Steve Carell, long after The Office is just a distant memory, will never stop being asked to repeat "That's what she said" like a comedy parrot. But consider poor Malin Akerman. Her career is still in its infancy, »

It’s that time of year again. The pumpkins are out, the leaves are turning colors, the air is brisk and chilly. It’s time for the spooky stories, the frightening films, the maybe not so scary but at times certainly inventive costumes and that most important element…..candy corn. Yes folks, Halloween season is upon us once again.
My yearly tradition on All Hallows Eve is to hole up in my house, turn off all the lights and settle in to a nice good ole fashioned Horror movie. What other way to celebrate right? I figured this would be the perfect time to run down a list movies that fit this time of year perfectly. Let’s run them down by letter shall we?
