A source tells People.com, "She wanted to feel better and get to the bottom of what was troubling her. She's had a rough year."
A spokesperson for the star confirms: "Heather has been dealing with anxiety and depression. She requested an in-depth evaluation of her medication and entered into a medical facility for proper diagnosis and treatment. This is a confidential medical matter and no further statement will be released."
Locklear's current beau, 48-year-old former Melrose Place co-star Jack Wagner, adds, "Anyone who has the courage to seek help in order to live a healthy life gets my support 110 percent."

Denise Richards has blamed the media for her split with ex Richie Sambora.
The couple became an item in 2006, shortly after Sambora filed for divorce from the actress's close pal Heather Locklear.
Richards said press reports suggesting that she had come between the couple and betrayed her friend were wide of the mark.
She told Us chatshow host Larry King: "[Sambora and Locklear] were getting divorced; he and I were friends and it happened. And she had moved on. She was already involved with someone else at the time.

Denise Richards is convinced her relationship with Bon Jovi star Richie Sambora only broke down because the media accused her of breaking up his marriage.
Richards began dating the Bon Jovi guitarist after she split from her former husband Charlie Sheen in 2006 - just months after he ended his 11-year marriage to her friend Heather Locklear.
The Wild Things star was the focus of many press reports accusing her of coming between Sambora and Locklear - and Richards blames the media's depiction of her for putting a major strain on their year-long romance.
She tells U.S. talkshow host Larry King, "They (Sambora and Locklear) were getting divorced; he and I were friends and it happened. And she had moved on. She was already involved with someone else at the time.
"It (the press coverage) affected, I think, the circumstances. It was very difficult to sustain a relationship. We were so slammed in the press. We were dealing with our parents dying. We were going through very difficult divorces and custody and it put a strain on our relationship. I regret the timing, perhaps, and I feel terrible anyone that was hurt and involved. But I did not split up their marriage."

Police have recommended to prosecutors that Richie Sambora be charged with Dui and child endangerment – both as misdemeanors – stemming from his March 25 arrest, says a source close to the case. Last week, Laguna Beach Police handed over the case to the Orange County Calif. District Attorney's Office, which has not announced any formal charges yet. "Because the case is under review, I can't discuss the details," Da spokeswoman Farrah Emami told People. "Ultimately, we have to base our decision on the available evidence." If Sambora is formally charged with both misdemeanors, a jail sentence is likely, legal experts say.

Bon Jovi rocker Richie Sambora has been arrested for drink-driving in California.
The Living On A Prayer hitmaker was pulled over by cops in Laguna Beach shortly before 11pm on Tuesday after they observed him driving erratically.
Sambora, who had been travelling with an unidentified female passenger, failed numerous field sobriety tests and was detained for driving under the influence (Dui).
At the station, he chose to take a blood test instead of the usual breathalyser to discover if he was over the legal limit. Cops are currently awaiting test results.
Sambora appears tired and dishevelled in a police mugshot, taken during his detention. However, an officer tells Tmz.com there was no indication of drugs.
He was released at around 4am on Wednesday.
The musician was admitted to rehab last year following a battle with alcoholism, sparked by his deteriorating marriage to actress Heather Locklear and the ailing health of his dad, among other factors.
He enjoyed a stint at celebrity rehab facility the Cirque Lodge in Utah months after completing a detox at the Ucla Medical Center.
