The First Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Image Surfaces

1 December 2009 6:23 PM, PST | FusedFilm | See recent FusedFilm news »

USA Today has released the first photo for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Though the photo is somewhat boring, at least I liked what David Yates, the mastermind behind both Parts 1 and 2, had to say about the tone of the next film.

“It’s going to feel very real. We’re going for a vérité approach. Being away from Hogwarts, they’re like these three refugees on the run. They’re out in the big bad world, facing real danger, unguarded by those wonderful benign wizards at Hogwarts. They don’t have a home to go to. We’re kind of pulling away from the magic a bit and bringing more reality to it.”

First Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Photo

1 December 2009 1:16 PM, PST | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

The first photo from the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” has been released courtesy of USA Today. The photo features Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Rupert Grint (Ron) and Emma Watson (Hermione).

The last chapter from the Harry Potter series will be broken into two films. According to director, David Yates, the first installment of the finale will be based more in reality than the previous films.

The first one finds young wizards Harry, Ron, and Hermione struggling to find their way in the Muggle (human) world, with their own lives in the balance and the fate of the magical realm in their hands.

Rupert Grint says:

“They’re paranoid. It’s quite a scary world because the Snatchers and Death Eaters are running around everywhere. Harry, Ron and Hermione are just camping out in random places, living rough, in regular clothes.” Snatchers and Death Eaters are minions of the evil »

What the Gotham Independent Film Awards Giveth, the Spirit Awards Taketh Away

1 December 2009 9:13 AM, PST | Vanity Fair | See recent Vanity Fair news »

From left: The Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow, Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty, screenwriter Mark Boal, and Jeremy Renner. Last night, the 19th Gotham Independent Film Awards—the first hurdle in the award-season obstacle course leading up to Oscar night—gave Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker the first of what will surely be many accolades in the run-up to the Oscar victory I predicted for her months ago. Bigelow’s white-knuckle Iraq war movie snagged the awards for Best Ensemble Performance (for Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty, Ralph Fiennes, Guy Pearce, David Morse and Evangeline Lilly) and for Best Feature. The nice people at Indiewire have the minute-by-minute rundown. Also noteworthy were Food, Inc.’s victory for Best Documentary—cementing its Oscar front-runner status—and Catalina Saavedra’s win for Best Breakthrough Actor for her performance in the Chilean dramedy La Nana (The Maid). With uncanny consistency, the winner »

It really isn’t much at all to make a fuss over but the above image is the first officially released image from the much anticipated Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 1 starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, courtesy of USA Today.

The first installment finds young wizards Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) struggling to find their way in the Muggle (human) world, with their own lives in the balance and the fate of the magical realm in their hands.

USA Today also have some exclusive quotes from Rupert Grint about the film:

“They’re paranoid,” says Grint. “It’s quite a scary world because the Snatchers and Death Eaters are running around everywhere. Harry, Ron and Hermione are just camping out in random places, living rough, in regular clothes.” Snatchers and Death Eaters are minions of the evil Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes).

1 December 2009 4:24 AM, PST | RupertGrint.net | See recent RupertGrint.net news »

Though Part 1 won't hit theaters until November, the first official image from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows has been released via USA Today ! The photo features Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe, and Emma Watson on the lookout for Death Eaters as they walk the streets of London as Ron, Harry and Hermione. Here's what Rupert had to say about the trio's adventures in the accompanying article: "They're paranoid," says Grint. "It's quite a scary world because the Snatchers and Death Eaters are running around everywhere. Harry, Ron and Hermione are just camping out in random places, living rough, in regular clothes." Snatchers and Death Eaters are minions of the evil Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes). Grint adds, grinning: "Me and Dan actually have some stubble." His facial hair served as a kind of invisibility cloak for the lanky, redheaded Grint, who went unrecognized by fans recently while on location in the Welsh countryside. »

First Official Image from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Released

One of the movies that I’m most looking forward to seeing next year believe it or not is that of the 7th installment of the Potter franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I really enjoyed the previous movie and as a non book reader, I need to find out what happens next! The book is so big that it’s being split into two movies. The first installment is due for release 19th November 2010 with the 2nd part being released 15th July 2011. It seems like an awful long way away but guaranteed it’ll be on us before we know it!

USA Today have the first official image (click it above to enlarge) to be released for the movie showing the three main cast, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson who play Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger respectively. The first installment finds the three wizards »

'Hurt Locker' Gains Oscar Momentum With Gotham Win Despite Ignorance at Summit

1 December 2009 12:20 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Photo: Summit Entertainment I can see the folks in the Summit offices right now, patting themselves on the back for picking up The Hurt Locker and now watching as it picks up Best Feature and Best Ensemble Performance awards at the 19th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards. They can celebrate the fact they hardly distributed the film into a grand total of 535 theaters and didn't market the film as it managed to make $1.2 million less than their loathed 3-D animated film Fly Me to the Moon. After all, they're floating around over there on a river of Twilight cash, a film series that can't manage to win over critics who would much rather praise a fan favorite feature than pan it. But who cares? Hot Topic is stocked with a battle of t-shirts pitting Team Edward vs. Team Jacob and now the company can claim ownership of Venice Film Festival Gucci Prize winner, »

Gotham Loves The Hurt Locker

30 November 2009 9:15 PM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Kathryn Bigelow's expertly told and thrillingly taut war drama The Hurt Locker took the top prize at the Gotham Awards tonight. Does this bode well for Oscar? No one can yet say but its loyal fanbase certainly can't hurt. Even if I didn't love the movie as much as I do, I'd be proud of it because I admire longevity when it comes to awardage and the movie has been out for months. In fact, it's now been a factor in two awards seasons (it had Indie Spirit nominations last year). Career tributes for actors Stanley Tucci and Natalie Portman, director Kathryn Bigelow and producers Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner were also part of the ceremony.

And the 6 winners were...

Best Feature The Hurt Locker

Best Documentary Food Inc.

Breakthrough Director Robert D. Siegel Big Fan

(Siegel broke out just last year as the screenwriter of The Wrestler)

Birthday Suits, An Oscar For Ed!

28 November 2009 6:20 AM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Each day we're celebriting the birth of various cinematic persons. Can someone in Hollywood please give their Oscar to Ed Harris today? I mean, my god how long does he have to wait for that damn thing? The rest of today's Sagittarians are less easy to shop for. What could we give Jon Stewart, for example, that he doesn't already have?

Ed, Laura and Jon

1896 Lilia Skala, Oscar nominated actress (Lilies of the Field)

1923 Gloria Grahame, Oscar winner (The Bad the Beautiful)

933 Hope Lange, Oscar nominated actress (Peyton Place, The Young Lions, Death Wish)

1941 Laura Antonelli, Italian actress, sex symbol

1946 Joe Dante He'll always have Gremlins, such a great 80s picture.

1949 Alexander Godunov, like Baryshnikov, he was a Russian ballet star who defected to America and co-starred in movies. It didn't go quite as well. He never achieved anything close to Misha's level of fame though he made for a memorable screen presence (Witness, »

CinemaSpy's Week-End TV Recap (Nov. 14)

14 November 2009 9:10 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

The big television news for the week preceding, was, of course, Fox's decision to cancel Dollhouse, a move not necessarily unexpected, but still lamented by fans of the show. Sadly, the writing had been on the wall from the beginning of the season—without a significant uptick in viewership, the series' life-expectancy would be short. It didn't happen...and it was. Dollhouse will return Dec. 4, with its series finale set for Jan. 22.

Fox's other genre series, Fringe, rebounded a bit to its pre-World Series numbers with a 3.7 rating/6 share. That equates to a 19 percent jump from the previous week, but still trails behind The CW, where the network's flagship skein, Smallville, finally regained some ground to tie its former Thursday night stablemate, Supernatural.

Over at ABC, V led all genre shows for the second week of sweeps, despite a more than 25 percent drop from its series premiere, earning a 6.6 rating/10 share, »

Trailers for Clash of the Titans and Kick-Ass have debuted this week and it is our obligatory duty to show them to those who have yet to see them.

Clash of the Titans is the remake of the 1981 film of the same name, itself loosely based on the Greek myth of Perseus. The film is directed by Louis Leterrier and stars Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes.

Clash of the Titans arrives in theaters on March 26, 2010.

Kick-Ass centers on a lonely teenage boy, Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), who decides to become a real-life superhero after being inspired by the heroes of comic-books. He soon encounters a mysterious vigilante called Big-Daddy (Nicolas Cage), and his daughter Hit Girl (Chloë Moretz), who are working to bring down the drug baron, Frank D’Amico.

The film is based on the graphic novel work of Mark Millar (Wanted) and John Romita, Jr.
