A group of five Wisconsin dentists and a health administrator who independently financed a movie, Just Write (1997), starring Sherilyn Fenn ("Twin Peaks" (1990)) and Jeremy Piven ("Ellen" (1994)) claim they have been unable to land a domestic distributor because the film is not sexy enough. "I'm not compromising my morals and values to make a film they want us to make, " Heath McLaughlin, a member of the group, told the current issue of Business Journal of Milwaukee. But executive producer Jim Kreutzer, a root canal specialist, said that the movie has test marketed positively, has been honored at film festivals and has landed a foreign distributor. He insisted that the backers will be able to recoup their $1.5 million investment on foreign and video earnings alone. "This film for us is really a calling card, " Kreutzer said.
