Statham Denies Romancing Clooney's Ex

10 July 2008 12:08 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

British actor Jason Statham has denied he is romancing George Clooney's ex-girlfriend Sarah Larson - insisting their recent dinner was not a date.

Clooney and Larson ended their year-long relationship in May and the cocktail waitress-turned-model sparked rumours she is dating Statham after they were pictured together in Las Vegas.

But the Transporter star insists that he has only met Larson once and it was not a romantic occasion.

He says, "I have met her. I was in Vegas with my friend and manager Steve Chasman last week and we were all at a big table. Next thing you know I'm jumping in and out of bed with her."

Arnold Urges Actors To Stay Out Of Union Dispute

10 July 2008 7:02 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

True Lies star Tom Arnold has urged his peers to stay out of the feud between actors unions and the movie studios - because their comments aren't helping resolve issues and thwart a strike.

The movie star insists recent public comments made by the likes of George Clooney, Tom Hanks and Sean Penn only serve to hinder union bosses as they attempt to work out new deals on working conditions and royalties for their members.

Arnold feels sure there will be no actors strike - as long as union bosses are allowed to do their job without the input of outspoken stars.

He says, "We've got to let our people do what they're doing... You know, when the actors start getting involved and taking sides and giving opinions... just let these guys at the union work it all out.

"I wish that the actors would just shut up, especially if you're filming in Rome, and that's not a slam on Tom Hanks, because I'm in his movie. I love him.

"Everything is going to be fine."

Larson: 'Clooney Relationship Opened A Lot Of Doors'

10 July 2008 5:05 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Sarah Larson is grateful for her relationship with Hollywood actor George Clooney - because it has helped boost her career.

The couple ended their year-long romance in May and since the split, former cocktail waitress Larson has landed a string of high profile modelling assignments.

She is now the face of fashion designer Christian Audigier's new line and is in talks to sign several more high profile contracts.

And although the 29-year-old is sad about the break-up, she admits the relationship has definitely changed her life for the better.

She says, "I'm very happy with how things are now. I have a lot of great opportunities, doors that have opened and I have no complaints.

"I make good money, I have a house, I have all the things I've always wanted."

Larson is also determined to help use her new found fame to do more charity work.

She adds, "I've never had the desire to really want fame, and now that I have it, I'm trying to use it for something good."

Larson Denies Clooney Engagement Rumours

9 July 2008 9:02 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

George Clooney's ex-girlfriend Sarah Larson has confirmed she was never engaged to the Hollywood actor.

The Ocean's Eleven star was forced to issue a denial in March after rumours began to circulate that he had proposed to the former cocktail waitress at his villa in Italy.

The couple split two months later, and now Larson has confirmed that although their relationship was serious, Clooney never asked her to marry him.

She says, "We were never engaged. Somebody made that up. I actually read it in a newspaper and I was like, 'I am engaged? Really? To whom?'"

The 29-year-old has also denied rumours Clooney dumped her because he feared her past would damage his career.

Larson previously worked as a cocktail waitress in Las Vegas, and photographs of her racy antics in Sin City soon turned up in the press.

But she insists those photos did not contribute to the break down of their romance.

She adds, "I wasn't shocked when those pictures taken of me in Vegas surfaced. I knew once I started dating George they'd come out. So I showed them all to him before they were published as they were posted on various websites. Most of them are of me working. I think it's funny that they are made out to be scandalous."

Clooney Confused By Burn After Reading Plot

6 July 2008 3:59 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Hollywood star George Clooney has confessed he has no idea what his forthcoming film Burn After Reading is about.

The actor, 47, admits he is baffled by the plot of the "dark spy comedy" and when he tries to get an explanation from directors Joel and Ethan Coen, they just laugh at him.

He says, "I tell the Coens that I don't understand it and they go, 'Yeah... heh, heh, heh'. I seem to play another idiot, who is having an affair with Tilda Swinton."

But Clooney is keen to get to the bottom of the plot - the movie is due to open the Venice Film Festival in Italy next month.

Red, White and Blues: Ten Bittersweet Patriotic Films

3 July 2008 9:11 AM, PDT | From ifc.com | See recent IFC news

By Michelle Orange

Samuel Johnson said it was the last refuge of scoundrels, and if that's true, then I predict a nation-wide crime wave and a week-long run on golden toothpicks and hairless cats, because at this time of year patriotism will not be denied. Refuse to partake of -- or at least acknowledge -- it at your political and gustatory peril. With that in mind, we offer a list of films that might satisfy those on the patriotic fence, those who prefer their patriotism (and their marshmallow salad) a little bittersweet. Like Mr. Johnson, I am not an American, and much of what I know about everything, including American patriotism, I learned at the movies; these films have taught me the most about the boons and the bummers involved in loving this country.

Why Not a space flower?: Six Killer Movie Plants

By Alison Willmore

For the many ill-wishers out there, the most disappointing thing about M. Night Shyamalan's environmental thriller "The Happening" wasn't that it was a failure, but that it wasn't a spectacular failure. Critics went in with their long knives out, only to leave shrugging that they've seen worse. Having made $59 million in theaters, it's not even the box office bomb some expected after "Lady in the Water." All in all, "The Happening" is actually pretty successful, considering it's a serious horror film about trees... that kill! In honor of that dubious designation, here's a look at the spotty history of films about murderous botanic life that have preceded it.

Clooney Plays Peacemaker

27 June 2008 10:32 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

After one group of actors released a statement this week siding with the Screen Actors Guild and another group released a statement siding with the American Federation of Labor in their ongoing internecine battle over bargaining strategy with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, George Clooney has stepped in between them. "What we can't do is pit artist against artist," he wrote in an open letter, "because the one thing you can be sure of is that stories about Jack Nicholson vs. Tom Hanks only strengthens the negotiating power of the AMPTP." Clooney suggested that "maybe we could find a way to get what both unions are looking for." He did not indicate how that could be achieved. AFTRA leaders have said that they are satisfied with the results of their negotiations. SAG is calling for members who belong to both unions to vote against ratification of AFTRA's agreement. The existing contract covering members of both unions is due to expire at the end of the day on Monday.

Clooney Calls For United Unions

26 June 2008 11:58 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actor George Clooney has pleaded for two rival Hollywood actors unions to put their bitter difference behind them - urging them to provide a united front for the sake of the industry.

The star used his peacemaking skills to call for an end to the bitter wrangling between the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).

Both unions are currently in crucial contract talks with film and TV studios, which expire on 30 June, to prevent another strike which crippled the industry from November until February.

Actors are threatening walkouts at the end of June if talks between the unions and major film studios fail to resolve a dispute over pay and conditions.

But the two unions are currently at loggerheads, after AFTRA, a smaller union, agreed to a tentative deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).

The SAG dismiss the agreed deal - suggesting it undermines their own contract - and have called upon heavyweights Jack Nicholson and Ben Stiller to urge members of AFTRA to reject the deal.

To compete with the actors, AFTRA has recruited Tom Hanks to declare support for the deal.

And Clooney has spoken out in a statement issued on Thursday urging the unions not to pit actors against each other as it would have a devastating impact on the industry as a whole.

He says, "Rather than pitting artist against artist, maybe we could find a way to get what both unions are looking for.

"Because the one thing you can be sure of is that stories about Jack Nicholson vs. Tom Hanks only strengthens the negotiating power of the AMPTP."
