The folks at our sister site Cinematical are working hard to give you news and reviews of the best -- and worst -- the silver screen has to offer. Here are some of their musings on the latest blockbusters, indies, and everything in between:
I'll probably end up seeing it on DVD, but Everybody's Fine isn't really making me rush out to the theater in the way I feel a De Niro movie should. You can read Cinematical's review of it here. I like Michelle Williams well enough, but I have nearly no desire to see her play Marilyn Monroe. Tobey Maguire looks positively terrifying in Brothers. I can't decide if that makes me want to see it more or less. You can read Cinematical's review of Brothers here. In Up in the Air, George Clooney plays a man who basically fires people for a living. A few months ago it was reported that Scarlett Johansson was leading a list of actress under consideration to play Marilyn Monroe in director Simon Curtis' biopic, My Week with Marilyn. Kate Hudson, Amy Adams and Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain) were also mentioned as possible contenders for the role.
Production Weekly has now learned that Johansson is out of the running and that its Williams who is in-talks with Curtis to top line the movie, set to begin lensing in June, 2010.
My Week will be based on the diary of Colin Clark, an employee of Laurence Olivier, who looked after Monroe when she came to London to film Olivier's "The Prince and the Showgirl" in 1957. Although Colin was technically considered the third assistant director, his unofficial role was to keep Monroe out of Olivier's way.
Clark published excerpts of his diary a year later, but left out the details of one week. »

If you had to pick the actress to play the woman who is pretty much considered be the epitome of a sex symbol, who would you choose?
That’s the question Simon Curtis has had to answer with his upcoming film My Week With Marilyn, a biopic about the one and only Marilyn Monroe.
Current screen siren Scarlett Johansson was originally being looked at to play the role of the Hollywood icon, but it has now been reported that another blonde beauty, Michelle Williams, is in talks to take on the part.
Not much is known about the film yet, but it’s supposedly based on the book My Week With Marilyn, which is based on author Colin Clark’s experience working with Marilyn Monroe during the filming of her 1957 film The Prince and the Showgirl.
Filming is set to begin in June, and we’ll keep you posted on production details as they come. »

Michelle Williams to Play Marilyn Monroe? There’s a Marilyn Monroe movie in the works, and though Scarlett Johansson was at one time tapped to play the iconic actress, Production Weekly has reported (via their Twitter feed) that none other than Michelle Williams is now in talks to play Monroe. We’re not sure what happened to Johansson or why she’s no longer associated with the project, but we’re kinda stoked that Williams is now the frontrunner. While she might not seem sexy and sensual enough to play a young Marilyn Monroe, I think Williams has come a long way from her debut on Dawson’s Creek and has carved out a very enticing career as of late – to the point where it won’t be long before we see her take home an Oscar, and you can...

If you had to pick a young actress to play Marilyn Monroe, who would you choose? Can you even think of someone who'd truly fit the role? Personally, I can't, but I do know one thing: Michelle Williams -- God, I love her -- wouldn't even make my top 50. So, seeing the Tweet from Production Weekly claiming the Oscar-nominated actress is in talks to play the titular icon in a movie called My Week with Marilyn made me nearly fall out of my chair.
I'm not sure if my reaction is more unfair to Williams or Monroe, but I guess I imagine someone less talented and less wholesome-looking. Someone like Scarlett Johansson, who was previously rumored to be in line for the film. Or Megan Fox, Malin Ackerman, Anna Faris or any other pin-up type currently included in Maxim's Hot 100.

Production Weekly has just tweeted that that Michelle Williams is in talks to star as Marilyn Monroe in Simon Curtis’ My Week With Marilyn, which chronicles the tale of a lowly third assistant director working on The Prince And The Showgirl who was given the job to look after Marilyn during her time in London shooting the film in 1957. Scarlett Johansson was reportedly rumored for the role, and I will say that she does look the part much more so than Williams, but if... »

Actress Michelle Williams has been tipped to take on the role of Marilyn Monroe in a new movie about the screen icon.
The Brokeback Mountain star has reportedly been offered the lead in upcoming film My Week With Marilyn, winning the title role ahead of other actresses including Scarlett Johansson and Amy Adams who are both said to have been considered for the part.
British newspaper the Daily Mail reports director Simon Curtis and producer David Parfitt picked Williams to play Monroe, but are still waiting for the Oscar-nominated star to agree.
The picture will document Monroe's time filming 1957 movie The Prince and The Showgirl with Laurence Olivier and is based on a diary kept by the film's assistant director Colin Clarke.
My Week With Marilyn is due to begin shooting in London in June. »

Michelle Williams has been asked to portray Marilyn Monroe on the big screen. The 'Brokeback Mountain' starlet has been lined up to play tragic screen icon Marilyn in movie 'My Week With Marilyn' - which will focus on the making of her 1957 film 'The Prince And The Showgirl' with Laurence Olivier. Although Michelle has been offered the part by director Simon Curtis and producer David Parfitt, the 29-year-old beauty has asked for some time decide whether or not the part is right for her. Simon is due to meet with her in 10 days to receive her decision. If she accepts the role, Michelle .. »

But she is a better actress, right? Production Weekly is reporting that Michelle Williams (Synecdoche New York, Brokeback Mountain) is "in talks" to star as Marilyn Monroe in Simon Curtis' My Week With Marilyn. According to early reports, Scarlett Johansson was also rumored for the role, but I think that was more speculation based on her looks. This is the first time we've heard this, so I won't take it as confirmed casting, but it seems like it could be legit. This must be a minor indie film, because My Week With Marilyn isn't even listed on IMDb yet, which means it's a very new project. Shooting is scheduled to begin in June. As far as we know, this is based on Colin Clark's book My Week With Marilyn. Clark was hired as the "third assistant director" on Laurence Olivier's The Prince and the Showgirl, who put »

Michelle Williams could end up playing Marilyn Monroe. Production Weekly has confirmed that she.s in talks to star as the iconic blonde, bombshell in the Simon Curtis film My Week with Marilyn, which starts shooting in June. At first glance, Williams doesn.t exactly look the part. That.s particularly important with someone like Marilyn, who.s appearance is so iconic and whom playing will usually mean spending time in a wide variety of revealing outfits. But Williams. is a great actress, one with an ability to completely transform herself. I never thought Gretchen Mol would be able to pull of Bettie Page, she looks nothing like the famed pin-up, but if you.ve seen The Notorious Bettie Page you know that she pulls off not only her personality but the heavily photographed centerfold.s physical appearance as well. Williams seems capable of pulling off a similar makeover for »

A home movie showing Marilyn Monroe apparently smoking marijuana in the 1950s has suddenly emerged and is reportedly going on sale on eBay. It was just passed around." Film collector Keya Morgan told CNN Tuesday that he heard about the film while he was interviewing an FBI agent for a documentary titled Marilyn Monroe: Murder at Fifth Helena Drive (Monroe's address in Brentwood, CA where her body was found). Morgan, who claims to have paid $250,000 for the footage, says he plans to put it up for sale on eBay. In the documentary, Morgan reportedly makes the case that Monroe was murdered by government agents in order to cover up her affair with President John Kennedy. »

John Mayer was bundled up as he headed towards the gym in NYC yesterday. He took a few days off from the stage for Thanksgiving while his album performed well on the charts, and of course the whole time he never skipped a beat on Twitter. He commented on the Tiger Woods situation, joked around with followers and took credit for the unseen Marilyn Monroe footage. John was also spotted on Monday during a late night out with Lindsay Lohan who had a message for him in the morning. He may, apparently, have been trying to orchestrate a reunion between LL and Samantha. He'll be back in his element performing again this weekend and is also looking for fans to attend an intimate VH1 taping on December 10.
