I'm thrilled that Martin Amis's great novel is to be adapted for screen – but the omens aren't good
Having always been sceptical about television's obsession with costume drama, I've never really understood what it must be like for the admirers of Jane Austen when, every two or three weeks, as it seems, a new production of Pride and Prejudice or Emma is announced.
Yesterday, though, I experienced the combination of excitement and defensive apprehension which must affect Jane-ites when they learn that yet another young British actress is being measured for a bonnet. Martin Amis's Money, a key book for my generation of English students and fiction readers, is to be dramatised on BBC2, bringing to an end a quarter of a century of aborted attempts since its publication in 1984.
Whereas the followers of Miss Austen sit nervously in front of their sets worrying if Mr Darcy will be dashing enough, »

Arnold Schwarzenegger is always going to be a movie star to me, even though the duty of governing California has kept him away from Hollywood in recent years. Here's hoping that his cameo appearance in "The Expendables" is a sign that he wants to get back to acting after he finished with politics.
He's still hooked in enough that he'll take a trip to present an award. Kirk Douglas, one of the original tough guy actors, was recently given the British Film Academy's Britannia Award, and Schwarzenegger was the one to present it to him. Douglas has been quiet in recent years, but he's also 92 years old. With classics like "Spartacus," Stanley Kubrick's "Paths of Glory" and "Gunfight at the Ok Corral" under his belt, the man has earned himself a rest, the better to observe the success of his son, Michael, and to collect lifetime achievement awards, like »

Kirk Douglas has told of his delight at being presented with a top film award by Arnold Schwarzenegger. The veteran star worked with the governor of California on the the 1979 movie The Villian, which was Schwarzenegger's first film. Douglas, who was named as one of the world's oldest celebrity bloggers earlier this year, wrote on his MySpace page that he had been touched by the presentation of the Britannia Award For Worldwide Contribution To Filmed Entertainment. The 92-year-old wrote: "Sometimes I think that if you live long enough you get all the awards. But last night was something special. I received the BAFTA/La award for (more) »

Kirk Douglas was stunned to be presented with a top movie award by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Thursday night - because he coached the muscleman on his first ever film.
The veteran actor was handed the Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Filmed Entertainment at the 2009 BAFTA/La Britannia Awards in Los Angeles.
Douglas was touched to receive the honour from Schwarzenegger, as he has fond memories of working with the star on 1979 movie The Villain.
In a post on his personal MySpace page, Douglas writes, "Sometimes I think that if you live long enough you get all the awards. But last night was something special. I received the BAFTA/La award for Worldwide Contribution to Filmed Entertainment. What was special about it was that Governor Schwarzenegger drove down from Sacramento to present it to me. That was very thoughtful.
"I worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger in his first movie, The Villain. At that time, neither of us could imagine that he would become such an important movie star and then governor of California. He was a great guy back then, and he has never changed." »

The Twitter-Wood feed started following its first canine today, as recent hacking victim and "Eclipse" actress Jodelle Ferland tweeted a pic referencing her dog "Genevieve Ferland." According to @gena_fur's Twitter account, Genevieve recently turned five, hates nail clippers and dressed as a princess last year for Halloween.
Lack of clothing was on the minds of two other "Twilight" series actors, though, as Tinsel Korey seems to have not yet found a dress for the "New Moon" premiere, and Charlie Bewley reported on his love of not wearing anything. Remarkably, I made none of this up. Check it out, along with an award Arnold Schwarzenegger recently presented to Kirk Douglas, a scandalous "Full House" photo and the reason "Iron Man 2" will show up to theaters late if it gets delayed. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for November 6, 2009.

He’s curved and white-haired, and he talks a little funny. But Kirk Douglas, at 93, stole the show at the Brittania Awards on Thursday night. It was the first black tie event of the awards season and hopefully not the last Hollywood will see of the star of “Spartacus.” Recognized for his contribution to world cinema, Douglas was charming and delighted and delightful. Despite the vestiges of a stroke on his ability to speak, he gamely quipped to Governor Arnold Schwarzen... »

Inglorious Bastards only hit theaters in August, but Quentin Tarantino is already being praised for his groundbreaking work on the movie by Hollywood and was recognized for his contributions to the industry by the Santa Barbara Film Festival. Last week on Glee, Will recruited glee club member turned something else April to give New Directions a kick, but things go downhill when he realizes she can't quit drinking and is becoming a bad influence to the glee kids. Rachel returned to the club, shared a moment with Finn, and "found out" that he's having a baby with Quinn. Note the quotes.
They finally made it to sectionals, and to boot, they're grouped with clubs from a school for deaf people and a halfway house, or so Mercedes insists. Not surprisingly, they think nothing will stop them from winning, and Will's worried that they're becoming complacent. He asks Emma for advice, but they end up having an awkward moment over mustard on his "cute Kirk Douglas chin mandible". And, they end up getting advice from Sue, who suggests that Will light the competitive spirit in the kids. Of course, »

Based almost entirely on found footage — and a clever script to thread that footage together — Empire State Building Murders is a loving tribute to classic Hollywood films.
French director William Karel, who co-wrote the script with Jerome Charyn, has crafted a film in which they've pulled footage from classic films and edited them together to tell a completely original story.
It's a mashup, a remix of some of the best gangster and noir films from the '30s, '40s and '50s. "Starring" Kirk Douglas, Lauren Bacall and James Cagney as the main players in a love triangle set in post-Second World War New York, when the movies of the time would have us believe the Mob was in complete control.
Douglas is the face of Jim Kowalski, a former New York cop who receives a letter addressed to him but postmarked Aug. 17, 1949, some 60 years earlier, that has been »
