French film icon-turned-animal rights activist Brigitte Bardot is campaigning to ban bullfighting in Spain.
The actress has appealed to the government of Catalonia to back The Popular Legislative Initiative - which calls for a change to the northeastern Spanish region's animal protection law.
At present, the law, which bans the killing or mistreating of animals, makes an exception in the case of bullfights.
And Bardot is now leading the opposition, blasting the sport as a form of torture.
In a letter to the Catalan Socialist Party (Psc), Bardot calls bullfighting "an incredibly sadistic spectacle" and refers to the Psc's current position as "an insult to the formidable popular campaign which has been observed in Catalonia".
The Initiative has gathered 180,000 signatures and is set to be examined by the regional parliament in Barcelona in mid-December. If the legislation is passed, Catalonia would become the first region of Spain to outlaw bullfighting. »

Baxter/Abaca As suspected, Bardot Vita — 4-week-old daughter of actor David Boreanaz and wife Jaime Bergman — was, indeed, inspired by Brigitte Bardot.
During a recent appearance on Live with Regis and Kelly, the 40-year-old Bones star said that it was actually a Douglas Kirkland photograph of the famed actress that reeled him in, a mere two weeks prior to Bardot’s August 31st birth. “It was the energy,” David revealed. “The essence of that photograph kind of got me moved. It hit me hard.”

Brigitte Bardot is keeping her 75th birthday low-key - she's planning on celebrating at home with her pets.
The screen siren turned the landmark age on Monday to much fanfare in her native France, where an exhibition of memorabilia and photographs opened in Paris.
Bardot will not be attending the tribute because of her ailing health, as she is forced to walk with crutches because of arthritis. She has instead opted to stay in the company of her cats and dogs to celebrate turning 75.
An organiser of Brigitte Bardot: The Carefree Years says, "Brigitte does not want to be part of any kind of fuss, and would prefer to stay with her pets.
"She now has to use crutches to walk, so travelling to Paris would be difficult. She doesn't want to be pictured either." »

Screen siren Brigitte Bardot has used the publicity surrounding her 75th birthday to urge fellow former temptress Sophia Loren to quit wearing fur.
Bardot celebrated the anniversary on Monday to much fanfare in her native France, where an exhibition of memorabilia and photographs opened in Paris.
But even turning a milestone age didn't prevent the avid animal-rights activist from taking aim at her contemporary Loren, who regularly sports animal fur as part of her glamorous image.
The pair was often compared in their 1950s and 60s hey-day, after they sexed up the post-war silver screen. Loren also turned 75 earlier this month.
Bardot has sent her birthday wishes to the Italian star - but begged her to re-consider wearing pelts.
She says, "I wish a happy birthday to Sophia Loren, my splendid twin, and I ask her to stop wearing fur - that is the best gift she could offer me." »

Brigitte Bardot's 75th birthday will be celebrated on Monday with an exhibition in her honour in her native Paris, France.
As the screen icon reaches the landmark, Brigitte Bardot: The Carefree Years will be unveiled, displaying photographs and footage of the actress throughout her career, as well as mementos and memorabilia, such as her wedding dress and portraits of the star by Andy Warhol.
Bardot, forced to walk on crutches because of arthritis, won't attend the exhibition, but has recorded a message to fans, which has been broadcast on French television. She says, "I am proud to have an exhibition, to be recognised for what I've done with my life."
The exhibition will run until January 2010 at Paris' Espace Landowski. »

Screen legend Brigitte Bardot is calling on animal lovers to boycott Canadian maple syrup until the country bans seal hunting.
The longtime animal rights activist is calling for a complete snub of Canada's most iconic consumer product to put pressure on the government to stop the culling of hundreds of thousands of seals a year.
The North American country produces nearly 85 per cent of the world's maple syrup - and Bardot insists the best way to force powerful people to listen is to hit them in the pocket.
Writing on the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) website, she says, "Massive ethical reactions from consumers can sometimes convince a government or a corporation to change the way that it does business.
"That is why I am supporting PETA's boycott of Canadian maple syrup until the Canadian government agrees to ban the slaughter of seals on the ice floes, the largest massacre of marine mammals on Earth, forever."
The And God Made Woman star travelled to Canada in 2006 to urge Prime Minister Stephen Harper to ban commercial seal killings, but was refused a meeting. »

Today we’re happy to be kicking off a new weekly Blog post that gives you a chance to get to know us, the guys and gals that make up Team Boxwish, a little better. Every week we’ll be asking a question, one that taps into the inspirational nature of the site and answering it as best we can. It’s not meant as an impossibly difficult Iq-type test (phew!), rather is more open-ended for us to express our opinions and debate some of the issues so intrinsic to Boxwish. And we’re starting this new series with a little look at our fancy-dress history: “Have you ever dressed as a movie character for a fancy dress party?”
Lucy: “Does being Tinkerbell in a village carnival count? Peter Pan must have been my playgroup’s choice of float theme that year. I can vaguely remember being a bit prima »

Don Draper relaxes in bed with his wife's book "The Best of Everything". She joins him.
Don Draper: [sarcastically] This is fascinating.
Betty Draper: It's better than the Hollywood version.
Don: Certainly dirtier.
Betty: Joan Crawford is not what she was. And honestly, I found her eyebrows completely unnerving, like a couple of caterpillar's just pasted there. Her standing next to Suzy Parker... as if they were the same species.
Don: Well, some men like eyebrows. And all men like Joan Crawford. Salvatore couldn't stop talking about her.The Best of Everything (1959).
Like the Gidget reference, this last line is another wink to modern audience that Salvatore, Don's co-worker, is gay. These days who loves Joan Crawford more than the gays? Of course back »

Pete Yorn has said that he was inspired to work with Scarlett Johansson because she reminded him of Brigitte Bardot. The musician and songwriter told Billboard that Johansson recorded her parts of the Break Up LP in February 2007, before the release of her debut album last year. Yorn said: "After I kind of dozed off one afternoon for a few minutes, I just woke up and my heart was racing and I had this thing in my head. 'I have to do a duets album, a guy-girl album'. It just popped into my head. "I wasn't dreaming about Scarlett (more) »

We've already caught a glimpse of Kristin Stewart as Joan Jett in the currently filming The Runaways, but a handful of new pics over at Just Jared have captured an all-growed-up Dakota Fanning in costume as keyboardist Cherie Currie.Currie wrote the autobiography that the film is largely based on. After The Runaways she appeared in a few movies (Foxes with Jodie Foster, This is Spinal Tap) and TV shows (Murder, She Wrote, Matlock) and recorded a couple of solo albums. She was once described as "the lost daughter of Iggy Pop and Brigitte Bardot", which kind of explains the look here. She has a twin sister. Will we see Dakota in a dual role?! »

We're going to be including the occasional film festival report at the Hollywood Interview in the weeks and months to come, and that includes the coolest places to stay and celebrate at. It doesn't get much cooler than the Hotel Byblos Saint-Tropez and the nightclub Les Cave du Roy, both longtime favorites - to say the least - of the crowd at Cannes. Our correspondent and publicist extraordinaire Nicole Muj reports on the ground from the legendary festival.

Fanboys director Kyle Newman is making the jump from Star Wars fetishizing to iconic French fashion models. With the help of our outback riding reader Pat, we uncovered an interview in the Victoria, Australia publication InPress, wherein Newman reveals that he's working on a Brigitte Bardot biopic. Newman says that though the project is currently in development, he's already found his star: his wife Jaime King, who met Newman on Fanboys and married him soon after. King was last seen running from murder in My Bloody Valentine and being utterly wasted in Frank Miller's The Spirit, but don't hold that against her. In fact, forget that person altogether and picture her at her best, oozing sex and seduction as Goldie in Sin City. That's exactly the kind of actress you want playing someone like Bardot. That's perfect casting. »

A Remake of the 1968 erotic sci-fi classic Barbarella could be set to blast off once again - with a new director.
Sin City director Robert Rodriguez last month dropped out of the Universal Studios project after spiralling costs would have forced him to shoot overseas, which he wasn't prepared to do.
Entertainment Weekly is now reporting that Robert Luketic could step into the director's chair and is working with producer Dino De Laurentiis, who owns the rights, to develop the film with a different studio.
"It will be a big intergalactic adventure with a sexy twist," a source is quoted as saying.
Luketic helmed 2001 hit comedy Legally Blonde, starring Reese Witherspoon; 2005's Monster in Law starring Jennifer Lopez and original Barbarella actress Jane Fonda; and upcoming The Ugly Truth starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler.

Scarlett Johansson is reportedly releasing her second album this year. Her first album, which didn’t get too much praise, was a collection of Tom Waits cover songs. Her follow-up album will be a duet collaboration with Pete Yorn called Break Up. According to USA Today, the album “chronicles a tempestuous affair” and Pete got the idea for it in a dream. He better not tell Scarlett’s husband Ryan Reynolds that! The album was produced by electronic artist Sunny Levine and is inspired by Serge Gainsbourg's work in the '60s with Brigitte Bardot. Yorn wrote all the... »
