Notes:	The first Cannes Film Festival had been planned for 1939. It had to be canceled, because World War II broke out. For its 55th anniversary in 2002 the festival decided to screen 12 films from the original selection, seven of which would be "in competition" and be retrospectively judged by a contemporary jury.
